Setting aside your non-sequitur about previous bubbles (bubbles have different aspects of causation and there is no logical reason to assume the most recent one was caused by the same causes as previous), let’s have some fun.

What, then, was the primary cause of the housing bubble and subsequent crisis that resulted from it, if not government policy?

Oh Ryan? Where are you? I am anxious to read your explanation as to the primary cause of the housing bubble/credit crisis. You should be able to do it about 8-10 concise bullet points.

As an addendum, feel free to provide the explanation for the primary cause of the looming student loan bubble - that appears to be the next problem on the horizon.
