Ruth Bader Ginsburg Has Died

Just a “warning” for those celebrating right now…

Due to the fact that many of those chosen to sit on the Supreme Court are Legal and Constitutional Scholars…and really are at least less partisan than the “average” American…sometimes their decisions end up not being what people expect.

But hey…for now a win is a win!

Actually, I think the idea of Romney as a Mr. Burns / Khan super villain would be awesome.

Who less suspected than the Uber vanilla Mormon from Utah?

You have me there

If the democrats want to stop this appointment why don’t they require 60 votes and filibu… Never mind.

That’s exactly what those celebrating want. They don’t want people that believe the Constitution needs to be squinted at just the right way.

:face_vomiting:…!

Customs have nothing to do with it. When the senate is controlled by the opposing party, the presidential picks won’t go through unless said president puts in someone that everybody likes. In this hyper-partisan age, there is no such thing. And since everything is ‘orange-man bad’, there is virtually no one the president can pick that the democrats approve of.
I understand that you cannot stand the fact the Trump gets to nominate another justice, but that’s just the way it is.
5 years ago, I had to sit there and eat it. And, presuming the culture war doesn’t blow up into full fledged civil war and kill the country, a few years from now, I will be ruing the next confirmation.

I don’t want to sit here and pretend that holding off would by any good or buy any good will with the democratic party. All that would do is buy them time to re-arm, just like any peace treaty with Hamas does. And most certainly, if they have the WH and the senate right before an election, they would do the exact same thing and the republicans would freak out.
The only difference are the calls for violence. Historically, republicans do not burn, wreck, shoot, destroy and kill when they don’t get their way in the government. But hey, it’s 2020, who knows anything anymore…

I know you prefer those that believe the Constitution changes with the day of the week, but not everyone agrees.

I prefer people not posting what they know is bullshit.

This is one of the funniest aspects of this whole thing. It was Harry Reid and the democrats who made the SCOTUS confirmation process a simple majority proposition.
Sen. Reid did not like to compromise and they wanted to approve Obama’s nominees without republicans, so they invoked the ‘Nuclear Option’ in 2013 and made nominations require a simple majority when prior to that, it required a 60+ vote majority.
They clearly didn’t think the republicans would ever have the White House and the senate at the same time again. Well, it bit them in the ass.
They can threaten, screech and riot all they want. It doesn’t change the facts on the ground.
The Constitution allows the president to nominate and the senate to confirm. And and big thanks to Sen. Reid and the democrats for making it much easier to confirm SCOTUS judges.

This is an important seat, but nobody is ‘celebrating’ until after the election results are confirmed and MAGA is the winner.

And we certainly don’t need another warning. We have been threatened from congress to the streets, from impeachment to bodily harm. But I will take any win I can get because I get so few.

Indeed it is. That’s why one shouldn’t go around changing rules because it’s politically expedient at the time. It could bite you in the ass later. Just like Sen. Reid and the democrats changing the requirements for confirmations to a simple majority. Sure it got their guy in at the time, but it gave Trump 3.

So your objection is duly noted.

This is literally the opposite of what used to happen. Thanks for playing.

Incorrect - his “nuclear option” did not extend to SCOTUS nominees.

I thought it was a bad decision on his part, but at some point, you should get some of the facts right.

He used it to change the filibuster rules, which will allow the nomination to go forward with a simple majority and no ability to filibuster. Thanks Sen. Reid! We couldn’t have done it without you.

Check your history bub. See how many election year justices were elected with the party opposite to the party in the senate vs. how many election year justices were elected when the president and the senate were the same party.

The opposite? That doesn’t even make any sense.

Don’t worry, I am sure a few suspected Trump supporters will be killed over the confirmation, so you have that to look forward to. The democrats and media have promised mass riots and destruction upon confirmation… We got the warnings.

From your article:

Reid’s “nuclear option” did not extend to Supreme Court nominees at the time, though McConnell used the precedent of Reid’s decision to lower the vote threshold for the confirmations of Justice Neil Gorsuch.
