You’re one of my favorite PWI posters. Very few of your posts fail to educate me.
I took a Modern Russia class last year and read Cannibal Island by Nicolas Werth. Pretty horrible stuff. The whole class was pretty horrible, haha. My professor is Finnish (lived there until age 15 or so) and is married to an Armenian woman, so between his own family and his in-laws he’s pretty familiar with Russia/USSR. I think I saw a recent post of yours where you said these are the kinds of people who can truly call themselves “experts” on Russia.

Sure seems like it, but maybe we have a new person who is a visionary expert on mechanized warfare posting here. Maybe he knows more about conducting mechanized warfare in Ukraine than the brainwashed generals using tanks in Ukraine.
Surely it couldn’t be the same person with vast expertise on modern monetary policy. That’s just too much expertise for one person.

This is already another thread turning into a pissing contest with a true know nothing. It’s always the ones claiming others have swallowed the Kool aid who are shoveling the most shit (I know mixed metaphor but I am tired).
Politicians set the budget, but the DoD makes the request and allocates the funding.
Ground systems are 5% of the 2022 request.

You do realize military equipment has a listed service life? The old stuff that gets sold off has either exceeded that or is destined to be replaced already.

I think it’s interesting he left out aviation, drone tech, swarm tech, and electronic warfare.
Tanks are relevant insofar as 1 Abrams tank could decimate NYC and they’d be helpless without the national guard. They are less relevant when effective countermeasures are in place, but then again it took us like a week to shoot down a weather balloon so
