The reason for the low rejection rate is not that FISA warrants are easy to get; rather, it’s because prosecutors know how high the bar is, and only seek them when they have a very compelling case.
No doubt about that (publicly anyway). They only got loud about it because their side lost. I heard pretty much nothing about this in the main media during the election process–most of the information I was getting was from other sources and most of the discussion about it was on this board. Once Trump won…explosion of Russia targeting tantrums by the left.
They could at least be consistent. But then so could the conservatives who are looking the other way with HRC defeated.
I don’t know about that…I absolutely hate to side with raj but FISA has been criticized roundly by lawyers and others for appearing to rubber stamp warrants. I am not sure how it shapes up after the 2015 USA Freedom Act which overhauled the procedures, but it certainly has a less than stellar track record in my opinion. I hold FISA courts in rather low esteem compared to standard court proceedings for citizens. I am of course not privy to any of the inside information or classified items, but I do not get the impression of a particularly stringent warrant review in FISA courts.
Then you are indeed agreeing with Raj.
Prosecutors set the bar with their compelling evidence, and were denied because their claims for needing warrant didn’t convince the judge.
Of course, who knows how they revised it to get approval.
WaPo and NYT should have that confidential info available soon.
Besides the fraud accusations, a separate lawsuit claimed that Trump SoHo was developed with the undisclosed involvement of convicted felons and financing from questionable sources in Russia and Kazakhstan.
You know that if youse had your wish, and Trump was gone, Pence would become President and most likely have a real chance of pushing through all the things that Trump’s rabid opponents are going batshit over?
I’m ok with it. But I wonder if the Pelosis and the Schumers have actually stopped to think about that?
Pence was chosen for the religious vote. It was a great strategy. Without a way to pull in the Jesus vote, Trump couldn’t have won the election. The problem was Trump is the first republican candidate in quite a while that was at risk of not pulling in a large majority of the Jesus vote.
Not hardly my friend. Trump beat Cruz and all others with the Christian vote during the primaries. He would have done even better in the general election against Hillary “I am for abortion up to the 9th month” Clinton. He didn’t need Pence for the Christian vote.
