Great to see you, and miss your contributions. And I agree with everything written. Zeb’s track record of mindless partisanship and documented dishonesty speaks for itself, and I think everyone reading - regardless of political affiliation - sees it and continues to be exasperated by it. I can only speak for myself, but I engage Zeb in large part to correct the record against his dishonesty - recall that time he tried to pass off quotes from Dreams of My Father to support certain ludicrous claims he had against Obama, even chastising people for not having read the book before challenging him, only to be exposed that such quotes didn’t exist in the book, either completely or in their proper context. Now he’s trying to pass off misinformation again, and I figured I’d set the record straight (again).
I derive much more satisfaction out of debating smart, honest people of all political stripes, and I come home here to learn more than anything (and I have and do). But tending to Zeb’s unprincipled garbage occasionally is just part of the PWI experience.
Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.) on Wednesday said reports that President Trump pressed ousted FBI Director James Comey to end an investigation would merit impeachment if true, becoming the first Republican lawmaker to broach the idea.
The New York Times on Tuesday reported that Trump tried to pressure Comey to stop investigating former national security adviser Michael Flynn, citing a memo written by Comey.
Asked by The Hill if the details in the memo would merit impeachment if they’re true, Amash replied: “Yes.”
“But everybody gets a fair trial in this country,” Amash added as he left a House GOP conference meeting.
Asked by another reporter whether he trusted Comey’s word or Trump’s, Amash said: “I think it’s pretty clear I have more confidence in Director Comey.”
Anyone else love that Putin is offering to show a transcript that Trump DIDN’T reveal classified info after Trump already tweeted about revealing said info?
Imagine how much better he’d look if he in general if he uninstalled Twitter on inauguration day.
I’d swear that must be a compulsion with him. As soon as anything starts to smooth out, he blows it up like an obstinate little brat.
He could be basking in the afterglow of a pretty decent trade negotiation session with China, but just had to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory with an entirely unnecessary and nonsensical tweet.
I love how there’s all this conflict around Russia at the moment and Putin comes out like “dw guys you can trust me I’ll release the transcript showing the thing that Trump says happened didn’t happen.”
I can’t tell if he’s trolling Trump or trolling the rest of us. Maybe both?
Wait you guys still believe it was the Russians that hacked the DNC even though we know Seth Rich was in contact with wikileaks and the local law enforcement was told to stand down on the investigation?
One of the many problems I have with this is that there are NO “real journalism” outlets that you disagree with. In other words, “real journalism” is whatever confirms your biases, and “fake news” is whatever you don’t like.
More importantly, taking Zeb’s situation–if the memo exists and Trump said that, it doesn’t have to be an order or threat. It can be a plea all he wants because what would rise to the level of obstruction isn’t the phrase itself, it is Trump’s following behavior,: the deliberate firing of Comey after the fact, which is exactly what happened.
Great point, and totally right. When someone says “the statements about Flynn was just Trump being Trump, there’s no evidence he was threatening Comey or going to take any action”, the response is “you mean, other than firing Comey?”
I especially like the underlying, unstated claim that Putin has a transcript, which implies that the Russians have successfully bugged the Oval Office.
Like you said, it seems like trolling, rather than a genuine attempt to help Trump.
