Still my favorite version of this magnificent instrumental which also never was on the radio. No video. I had the VHS of this album years ago and it wasn’t on there either. The cassette and CD versions have it though. Moving pictures tour 81. Same as Xanadu on the previous page.
Yeah I saw that, but I like Lifeson’s leads during the “A Lerxst in Wonderland” section, starting at about 3:55 in the Exit Stage Left version best. I like that short shred at the beginning too. It was acoustic on the Hemispheres studio album. There’s newer ones as well. I just always liked this version. Thanks though. I just counted and I’ve seen them 11 times in 4 states. Been a while though now.

Honestly, I just can’t stand Geddy Lee’s voice at all. I absolutely hate how it sounds and it just ruins the rest of the music for me.
As a drummer, I appreciate Neil Peart’s ability immensely. But I’ve developed a bit of a hatred of him because I hate when people say that he’s a better drummer than John Bonham. He’s one of the greats, but when it comes to rock drumming there’s Bonham and there’s everybody else.
It’s just a personal preference, that’s all. I’ve always liked drummers who have really good feel for the groove and know when to lay back a little bit, which Peart doesn’t really do. He’s really flashy and he’s technically brilliant, but it’s all about the SOUND when it comes to drumming and to me, he just doesn’t sound the way Bonham does. No one does, really. If they had a different lead singer and I didn’t have to constantly listen to people who have never sat behind a drumset tell me that Peart is better than Bonham than I might be into them.
But it’s too late for me now.
I was just kidding. Rush is a weird band - they say so themselves - and are definitely not for everyone. It’s the kind of band that is easy not to like, but impossible not to respect.
Despite being a huge Rush fan, the very vocal “Neil Peart is God” camp annoys me as well. I personally consider him to be one of, if not the best rock drummers of all time, but he’s got some pretty stiff competition in Bonham, Moon, Portnoy and Carey. The diehard Peart groupies seem to find a way to negate the talent of these other top drummers.

You forgot Stu Copeland - and Neil would agree.

I’m amazed that the house didn’t implode from all of the greatness …

I hear what you’re saying about technical ability and sounding good. I’m the same way with guitar greats like Joe Satriani. They are absolutely amazing at playing their particular instrument, but their songs sound unimpressive/boring/over the top.
I understand there was a pretty significant outpouring of support from fellow musicians to get Rush in the RRHOF. Here’s Dave Navarro talking about it at 0.50 onward. Billy Corgan and Metallica were big supporters as well…

Oh my fucking God I hate Joe Satriani. He sounds like fucking shit every time I hear anything by him. Don’t these people understand that music comes from the soul? It’s not about what you can do with your instrument but how you can make it sound, even if that means playing something really simple. It takes a true master to sound great. Anyone with enough practice time can pretty technically-proficient at their instrument, but there’s something innate about being able to produce that unique sound. Jimi Hendrix had “it”, Bonham had “it”, Clyde Stubblefield had “it”.

Toss out the singer and the drummer and you’re a fan? That’s 2/3rds of the band…
I’m afraid that it is too late for you my friend…yes…it is much too late.

I know someone already posted the whole song, but solo is amazing and reinforces your point about “soul”

Yep, no soul or unique sound at all.

He’s just mad because I suggested his wife get an apron like his. I have to admit that for the most part FZ doesn’t make soulful music.

True. Still better than Satriani, IMHO.
