Rush Limbaugh

It just baffles me that if black comes out of Rushes mouth then he is a racist but yet Al Sharpton, Jessie Jackson and many other liberals say black ____ every day. I think it is them that can’t get past the color issue.
I am of Cuban descent (my parents were born in Cuba) I don’t call myself a Cuban American…I was born here. How many blacks that we see day to day were born in Africa or at least there parents form there…Very few if any at all. Yet they still call themselves African-Americans. Maybe we are all Americans.

I would love to get past the color of skin but we all use it to our advantage when we can and cry racism when we are denied something.

It is sad, how I grew up in Alabama with the Name JORGE ALONSO…Can’t get more Latin than that. Yet the most segregation I saw was the two years I lived in the San Francisco bay area. There was a neighborhood for every race. Yet in racist Alabama, for the most part, we all got along but boy would the media jump all over it if something were to occur.

Racism works both ways. Would anyone care or say anything if:

Michael Irving would have said, “It would be good to see a white running back do good”

Instead of White Men Can’t Jump the movie would be Black Men Can’t Play Quarter Back

Instead of The Great White Hype make one called The Great Black Hype

Instead of BET (Black Entertainment Television)
WET (White Entertainment Television)
SET (Spanish Entertainment Television)

So it is okay to use race to your advantage but when some calls them on it it’s racist. IMHO from a person who is now part of the largest minority in the US but do you think I care or ever bring it up?

I yield back the balance of my time.

I agree that it has been blown out of proportion. What is more interesting to me is the charge of getting legal painkillers illegally. If it is true, I’d love to see him eat his own hipocracy. He spends 3 hours a day telling half-truths and chastising other people for their wrong doings. I’ve heard him go on and on about drug-usrs in a negative way. How ironic it would be if he turns out to be the same. Rush and his friend Bill Bennett ought to do what’s right and get out of public life. They are a disgrace!

I was listening to Rush one day a few months ago, his soapbox for conspiracy was based on the Randal Simon-wacking-a-stuffed-sausage-in-Millwakee-incident.

He said that Simon was acting out his frustration on the sausage because back when he was playing for the Braves, John Rocker called him a worthless monkey.

I remember thinking, how the hell can he make that sort of statement? That is a stretch in every sense of the word! What sort of race card is he trying to throw here?

It just seemed like a deliberate instigation of the race issue in sports.

So, obviously, I wasn’t suprised by his comments about Mcnabb.
He’s an idiot, and a dangerous one because of his loyal audience and hidden agendas.

B.

Just for a test, if all of you could indicate in your posts if you are a liberal or a conservative (or dem or rep if you choose) and state simply if you agree with rush or not.

That is all.

A little article you might find interesting.

Rush Limbaugh Was Right
Donovan McNabb isn’t a great quarterback, and the media do overrate him because he is black.

Limbaugh leaves over unfair football flap

In his notorious ESPN comments last Sunday night, Rush Limbaugh said he never thought the Philadelphia Eagles’ Donovan McNabb was “that good of a quarterback.”

If Limbaugh were a more astute analyst, he would have been even harsher and said, “Donovan McNabb is barely a mediocre quarterback.” But other than that, Limbaugh pretty much spoke the truth. Limbaugh lost his job for saying in public what many football fans and analysts have been saying privately for the past couple of seasons.

Let’s review: McNabb, he said, is “overrated … what we have here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback can do well?black coaches and black quarterbacks doing well.”

“There’s a little hope invested in McNabb, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of his team that he didn’t deserve. The defense carried this team.”

Let’s take the football stuff first. For the past four seasons, the Philadelphia Eagles have had one of the best defenses in the National Football League and have failed to make it to the Super Bowl primarily because of an ineffective offense?an offense run by Donovan McNabb. McNabb was a great college quarterback, in my estimation one of the best of the '90s while at Syracuse. (For the record, I helped persuade ESPN Magazine, then called ESPN Total Sports, to put him on the cover of the 1998 college-football preview issue.) He is one of the most talented athletes in the NFL, but that talent has not translated into greatness as a pro quarterback.

McNabb has started for the Eagles since the 2000 season. In that time, the Eagles offense has never ranked higher than 10th in the league in yards gained. In fact, their 10th-place rank in 2002 was easily their best; in their two previous seasons, they were 17th in a 32-team league. They rank 31st so far in 2003.

In contrast, the Eagles defense in those four seasons has never ranked lower than 10th in yards allowed. In 2001, they were seventh; in 2002 they were fourth; this year they’re fifth. It shouldn’t take a football Einstein to see that the Eagles’ strength over the past few seasons has been on defense, and Limbaugh is no football Einstein, which is probably why he spotted it.

The news that the Eagles defense has “carried” them over this period should be neither surprising nor controversial to anyone with access to simple NFL statistics?or for that matter, with access to a television. Yet, McNabb has received an overwhelming share of media attention and thus the credit. Now why is this?

Let’s look at a quarterback with similar numbers who also plays for a team with a great defense. I don’t know anyone who would call Brad Johnson one of the best quarterbacks in pro football?which is how McNabb is often referred to. In fact, I don’t know anyone who would call Brad Johnson, on the evidence of his 10-year NFL career, much more than mediocre. Yet, Johnson’s NFL career passer rating, as of last Sunday, is 7.3 points higher than McNabb’s (84.8 to 77.5), he has completed his passes at a higher rate (61.8 percent to 56.4 percent), and has averaged significantly more yards per pass (6.84 to 5.91). McNabb excels in just one area, running, where he has gained 2,040 yards and scored 14 touchdowns to Johnson’s 467 and seven. But McNabb has also been sacked more frequently than Johnson?more than once, on average, per game, which negates much of the rushing advantage.

In other words, in just about every way, Brad Johnson has been a more effective quarterback than McNabb and over a longer period.

And even if you say the stats don’t matter and that a quarterback’s job is to win games, Johnson comes out ahead. Johnson has something McNabb doesn’t, a Super Bowl ring, which he went on to win after his Bucs trounced McNabb’s Eagles in last year’s NFC championship game by a score of 27-10. The Bucs and Eagles were regarded by everyone as having the two best defenses in the NFL last year. When they played in the championship game, the difference was that the Bucs defense completely bottled up McNabb while the Eagles defense couldn’t stop Johnson.

In terms of performance, many NFL quarterbacks should be ranked ahead of McNabb. But McNabb has represented something special to all of us since he started his first game in the NFL, and we all know what that is.

Limbaugh is being excoriated for making race an issue in the NFL. This is hypocrisy. I don’t know of a football writer who didn’t regard the dearth of black NFL quarterbacks as one of the most important issues in the late '80s and early '90s. (The topic really caught fire after 1988, when Doug Williams of the Washington Redskins became the first black quarterback to win a Super Bowl.)

So far, no black quarterback has been able to dominate a league in which the majority of the players are black. To pretend that many of us didn’t want McNabb to be the best quarterback in the NFL because he’s black is absurd. To say that we shouldn’t root for a quarterback to win because he’s black is every bit as nonsensical as to say that we shouldn’t have rooted for Jackie Robinson to succeed because he was black. (Please, I don’t need to be reminded that McNabb’s situation is not so difficult or important as Robinson’s?I’m talking about a principle.)

Consequently, it is equally absurd to say that the sports media haven’t overrated Donovan McNabb because he’s black. I’m sorry to have to say it; he is the quarterback for a team I root for. Instead of calling him overrated, I wish I could be admiring his Super Bowl rings. But the truth is that I and a great many other sportswriters have chosen for the past few years to see McNabb as a better player than he has been because we want him to be.

Rush Limbaugh didn’t say Donovan McNabb was a bad quarterback because he is black. He said that the media have overrated McNabb because he is black, and Limbaugh is right. He didn’t say anything that he shouldn’t have said, and in fact he said things that other commentators should have been saying for some time now. I should have said them myself. I mean, if they didn’t hire Rush Limbaugh to say things like this, what they did they hire him for? To talk about the prevent defense?

this country is fundamentally racist.

although flat-out racist comments are generally looked down upon by everyone, there are several ways of being racist without saying racist things directly.

although rush limbaugh said one thing, he implied something that a lot of other people were thinking, including himself: that black people are not able to handle the ‘sophisticated’ task of delegating plays and executing precise passes that requires impeccable eye-hand coordination.

when people talk about states’ rights, they mean the right of states to circumvent civil rights protections offered by the government.

when trent lott said “I want to say this about my state: When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. We’re proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn’t have had all these problems over all these years, either.” he clearly meant that our country should be segregated.

frankly, i think all these racists are pussies, hiding behind their twisted code words, their white bed sheets, etc.

rush limbaugh is a piece of shit. if it weren’t for his dad’s money or any special favors by his butt buddies, he wouldn’t have amounted to anything.

Please don’t imply Rush is being unfairly persecuted. The guy RESIGNED rather than stand up for his views. Maybe he knows in his heart of hearts that he was implying something racist? The guy couldn’t take the heat, and folded like a house of cards. Could he have crumbled any faster?

Still waiting for Rush to deny that he is a drug addict. If the National Enquirer doesn’t have a legitimate story, why is Rush being investigated?

The Mage
You are a “Dittohead”.
That is not a compliment.

Lumpy,

It’s a shame you were not around during the Mcarthey era, You would have made a good witch hunter!

Those who now see racists behind every comment need help. Unfortunately, all they will get is patted on the back by the liberal media.

According to polls most people in the U.S.A. feel that Rush should not have lost his job (which he resigned because of pressure from his superiors at the network, not because he was afraid to take a stand, get real). Most people understand that this double standard we live by is harming the country.

What Rush said was no more racist than what Trent Lott said. Lott is a racist because at a mans 100th birthday party he said “the country would be better off if he had won.” Could Strom Thurmond had had a better econmonic plan? Could he have had a better world vision? No of course not! The media says Lot said it because he was aware and endorsed Thurmonds former racists views. Guilty as charged! Step down!

Once again tried, found guilty and sentenced in the media! Because you do not like someone, or that you disagree with someone does not make them a racist! Furthermore it’s bad politics and bad for the country to imply such.

One day when your right of free speech is attacked and you are harmed by it economically, or worse, who will stand up for you? Everyone will be too scared to speak out, after all.

regarding the “liberal media”…

Just because the media in general politically correct does not mean it is “liberal”. There are liberal networks as well as plenty of conservative networks (FOX immediately comes to mind).

A news source that is not politically correct loses all credibility, just like rush limbaugh’s radio show. Only a news source that abstains from unnecessary derogatory comments and offers balanced views from both sides can be credible.

Trent Lott stepped down because there was public pressure for him to do so(even from his own party and president). He was guilty in the court of public opinion, not “found guilty and sentenced in the media” as you mentioned. Same thing with Rush.

“It’s a shame you were not around during the Mcarthey era, You would have made a good witch hunter!”

Nobody forced Rush to abuse narcotics, and Rush QUIT his job… however nobody in the McCarthy era blackballed THEMSELVES. So your comparison is pretty weak.

Maybe Rush’s impending problem with the authorities over his black market narcotics abuse was a contributing factor to him folding at ESPN. There are only so many scandals a guy can handle at one time.

danh,

Not so! The pressure brought to bear by the liberal media is what made some in the republican party ask Lott to step down.

Almost the same thing with Rush. A comment is made, the liberal media, and liberal politicians jump on it. The story gets larger, pressure is then brought. Person steps down. Freedom of speech takes another beating, but oh well, “we don’t like him anyway so it’s okay”.

Just as the liberal womens groups are “outraged” regarding Arnolds alleged groping. N.O.W. called a special press conference to denounce Arnold. Hoping, of course to derail the lead Republican candidate. Let me ask you this: Where was the National Organization of Women when Bill Clinton was accused of raping Juanita Brodrick, and exposing himself to Paula Jones.

I will tell you where the liberal media was. In the first instance they were hiding their heads in the sand. In the second instance they were doing Bill’s work for him by painting Paula Jones as mere trailer trash. N.O.W was no where to be seen!

I notice that you site Fox as being a conservative netork, “among others”. Care to mention all those “others”? Difficult huh?

Allow me to mention just a few liberal media outlets: CBS, NBC, ABC CNN, New York Times, Los Angels Times, virtually every college newspaper in the country and countless other large city papers. And it has been this way for decades!

Rush lost his job because of pressure from all sides built by a biased liberal media and stoked by crazy Al Sharpton, Gov. Dean and other liberal leaders vying for political power!

Again, it’s okay because “we don’t like Rush”. Fine, but where does it stop? If you are not allowed to express your politically incorrect views today what happens to our right of free speech tomorrow?

there are plenty of coservative journalists and programs: go to http://michellemalkin.com/ and follow the links to get a good sample of conservatives on the internet. turn on your radio anywhere in the country and if you don’t hear music it’s probably a right-wing talk show. on tv, watch jay leno and you will see that all of his guests are virtually pro-Schwarzenegger Republicans. Watch CNN on primetime and you’ll run into Lou Dobs, a strong fiscal and mild social conservative; robert novak’s on the capital gang; among frequent guests to the network you’ll find the foundation for the defense of democracies and other agenda-driven think tanks. look at most editiorials outside NY, LA, SF, and BOS and you will see conservative commentators and editors. in my opinion, the media is more conservative than it is liberal.

before i go on i will identify myself as an independent, so you won’t think that i’m pro-clinton, anti-arnold, anti-bush.

The fact that you know about those allegations against Bill Clinton means the media DID cover it. Remember Monica Lewinsky? Is a liberal media going to come down hard on a liberal president? Jesus. That shit lasted over a year.

women are coming forward complaining of sexual harrassment and that’s an important issue to most californians? how is sexual harrassment a liberal vs. conservative issue?

it seems you are very partisan and that is why you are a staunch ally of Rush Limbaugh and his actions. I suggest you take an objective view on the matter and try not to think of this as a liberal vs conservative issue.

rush limbaugh made some racist implications and most of the country would rather not have him on their television screens. it’s that simple.

Okay, sorry, but some of you are full of crap. The media is hardly “liberal”… If they were you would see a lot more stories about this shadow government that is currently in control of the office of presidency (the Project for a New American Century) with the scariest hidden agenda I have ever seen, but somehow this stuff flies under the radar and never gets media attention. The fact is that the media does not give a fuck if it is a liberal or a conservative… They are scavengers, looking for a bloated rotting corpse. Any time there is a scandal of any kind they are on it like flies. Doesn’t matter if it is Clinton or Limbaugh. They know that viewers are no longer interested in real news… they just want to be entertained.

So can the “liberal conspiracy” crap. The media smelled a corpse and they are drawn to it, just like they are with Arnold’s woes. If it bleeds it leads. You guys have just been listening to too much Rush and you have started to believe his crap. He irritates me personally, but I don’t like to see him getting beat down about the pain pills. If he has a problem it is sad, but he doesn’t deserve to be exposed and tried by media for it.

Yes, drug addiction is sad, but I have to say I enjoy seeing Rush being exposed as a hypocrite on the drug issue.

He is a moralizing finger-pointer on his show, so I am getting a kick out of seeing him exposed as a fraud.

Limbaugh’s comments were dead on.

McNabb is a mediocre quarterback.
How many Superbowls does he have?
How many MVP’s does he have?

Enough said.

ESPN shouldn’t have prompted him for his resignation. They should have paid him a bonus.

Everyone is talking about Countdown. This can only work to ESPN’s advantage.

danh,

I hope you are not trying to compare a few conservative radio stations, that have just blossomed over the past 10 years, against the likes of the original big three liberal networks, CBS, NBC, and ABC that have reined in power for over 60 years!

Gallup did an interesting poll just after the last Presidential election. They asked this question to reporters who covered the presidential election. The question was something in the order of “what party did you vote for in the most recently held elections”. Ready for this? 78% voted democratic!
Just because there are some conservative upstarts that have sprouted up recently to challenge the liberal biased in the media, does not mean that the majority of the media has not been, and is not currently liberal!

Yes, I am well aware that the media covered Monica Lewinsky until we were all sick of it (we agree on this one). But, I would hardly say that the media is conservative based upon this. When the President of the United States gets caught in a direct lie to the media, they tend to want some revenge. Liberal or conservative, people are people. Furthermore, how does a liberal media ignore perjury and impeachment procedings?

As far as Rush’s comment being racist, I disagree! He was commenting on the possibility of the media giving McNabb a free ride because he is black. In essence, what he was saying is that the media was participatiing in reverse discrimination (Is it okay to promote a black player at the expense of a white player, even if the white player may have superior ability?).

Where, by the way, are the out crys when a white student loses his chance to attentd a University to an African American, because of a racist quota system? Do you see any college presidents losing their jobs? No, in fact they are encouraged to continue this discriminatory act.

Like him or not, for his honest from the heart comment Rush loses his job. While I think it was a “racial” statement, it was not a “racist” statement. Was Dusty Bakers statement regarding black players being able to take high summer tempetures better than white players a racist statement, or a racial statement? Surly it was more provocative than Rush’s comment. Yet, no problem for Dusty. Gee, how come?

I am sure we can agree on this: I want an America where we are all truly equal. Where we are judged on our merits alone. We will never get there if we cannot have an honest discussion based upon the inconsistencies in our current system. Point being, if Rush is wrong then debate him on the issue. Prove to him and the majority of the country that your point of view is accurate. As it stands now, not one person can stand up and say “hey I think we have a racial problem over here” for fear of a general attack.

What the politically correct crowd wants is silence! The message is clear from these people: Don’t even think about making a statement that has anything to do with race, unless you are saying that minoritys deserve more and are treated poorly. That is not an open discussion, that is censorship, which, in my book is far worse than even racism!

If a free people cannot express themselves regarding a legitimate point of view, What do we have in this country? Do you really want compliance through fear? Or, is it better to have freedom and a chance of unity through open and encouraged debate. I know the answer to that question, and I think you do too.

Maybe you will agree that the debate that we have had in this forum has not only not harmed anyone but perhaps has been a positive thing getting many to think about the issue of racism, and race relations in general.

This is the very discussion that should be taking place on a national level. This will not occur until those who have an opposing view can open their mouths without fear of being attacked and harmed economically.

“Please don’t imply Rush is being unfairly persecuted. The guy RESIGNED rather than stand up for his views. Maybe he knows in his heart of hearts that he was implying something racist? The guy couldn’t take the heat, and folded like a house of cards. Could he have crumbled any faster?”

Did he resign from his radio show? No. If he would’ve resigned from his radio show as well then I’d see your point, but no.

Lumpy, I’d like to have a serious discussion with you, but the fact that every post of yours basically states “I’m so glad Rush is getting fucked over by the media! Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, its almost orgasmic! Oh wait! Oh! Oh! Ohhhhh! …I guess it is orgasmic! Hahahahaha. Rush sucks dicks, what a druggie!!!” shows that you’re not really in a mood for a serious discussion so basically…

…fuck you, Lumpy, quit wasting our time, go get your shit pushed by one of your other faggot bitch-ass friends.

Um, what?

Was i supposed to understand that comment?

How come Rush has hired an attorney and hasn’t denied that he uses black market narcotics?

Chrismcl, I’m throwing a big party if Rush goes to prison. Yahoo!!!

Doesn’t look like Rush is giving the Sieg Heil in this photo?

Chrismcl, I didn’t realize you were so protective of Rush, and that you were such a sensitive flower.

Vegita: I am a progressive

Do I agree with Limbaugh? I can’t really say; I haven’t been following the season. What I DO know is:

  1. Rush’s comment was NOT racist, for reasons that at least some of you have picked up on, so I won’t go over them again. Needless to say - as those of you who dissent from this opinion are too stupid to understand anyways - no sane person could possibly accuse the statement of being racist.

  2. Our society should not be attempting to become ‘color-blind’, or ‘tolerant’. That is just plain stupid. Why don’t we shoot for: ‘Race? Who gives a f*ck?’

  3. Per definition racists are both unintelligent and insecure.

  4. All of these people need to shut the f*ck up. I get called ‘stupeed white rich boy’ by the ‘vatos’ outside the grocery store everyday but could not care less. It is the Jesse Jacksons and Al Sharptons that keep racism alive, by turning totally incidents that really have nothing to do with racism into media circuses.

  5. Lumpy is undoubtedly the stupidest person I’ve had the displeasure of encountering all week long. Since, for some reason sane people like me get politically ‘lumped’ with idiots like you, I feel the need to correct some of your nonsense:

  • To call Rush a ‘stupid drug-addict’ before there is a conclusive trial verdict…or even an arrest for that matter, is to label yourself as a ‘stupid nonsense-addict,’ and does nothing but perpetuate the perception of all liberals as people who glean their information from the National Enquirer. Wait a minute…

  • Your ‘can’t a guy get a blowjob’ thing is almost as stupid. Not quite, but almost. Its rather disgusting that the dems blame Bush for not nabbing Bin Laden during the few months before 9/11. But then again, I guess we can’t blame Clinton for not going after him even after Bin Laden was indicted for the embassy bombings (which he had several years to do); I guess he had other things going through his head at the time.

At least I can take comfort in the fact that yours is the kind that can’t figure out how to punch out a chad…
