Rumblin', Stumblin', Bumblin' to 50

I see my parents and grandparents in things I do and say all the time. Don’t know if its a good or bad thing.

What are you doing for complexes now?

Never been to the Outer Banks, but I hear that it is beautiful. My brother and his crew are heading down there in a week or two and staying on Nag’s Head. God willing, me and my crew will be joining them down there next year.
It will be good to go back to my birth state. I haven’t been there in 9 years, and that was cutting through the corner on the way to my honeymoon. Man do I miss the SE.[/quote]

You sound like my buddy that lives in Hot Springs. His company is thinking of transfering him to the Sea-Tac area. He is really dreading that! Stop in when you come out… We can go out for ‘dinner’ and all… haha

Sounds like a plan. Just please don’t make me do any of those complexes!

I’m still doing the deadlift, high pull, bent row, OHP, squat combo, Eco. I have set up 2 barbells and the smith… It’s making the best of my gym’s limitations. I probably need to give some serious consideration to my own persomal gym

How about I spot for you. That will make me feel strong… and my complexes are not that bad… you would tear them up

Monday evening workout

YTWL warm up: 8 lbs
Bench Press: Bar x10, 113x10, 135x10, 205x8, 225x5, 245x5, 275x2, 295xmiss
Incline in the Smith: 135x8, 2x155x8
Reverse grip incline press in the Smith: 115x10, 2x135x10
Standing DB fly: 35x10, 2x45x10

Once again I tried the shoot for 295. Once again I missed. Oh well. I’ll shoot for some reps at 275 over the next few weeks then try 295 again. I’ve resided to the fact I’ll not have a pain free shoulder. But as long as it stays manageable I’ll be good.

Back in the gym at 5 for those damn Smith squats.

JW’s evening thought: Sometimes a fact or two can spoil a perfectly good argument.

The reverse incline bench seems to be coming along. Lot of guys swear by them. I don’t have the flexibility in my wrist to be comfortable with them. I say go straight to 305 on the bench in a few weeks. Sometimes we set up a mental block over a certain number. Make sure you’ve got someone to give you a lift off on that day. You’ll get it.

Thanks hel. I know what you mean about wrist flexability! All the years of sawing, (its a 2 stick, 2 feet deal, kinda like flying a helicoptor that operates like a bulldozer) have played hell on my wrists as well. I do like the way they pump the triceps. I’ll try your advice on 305. I can’t get 295 off my chest, not even close.

Tuesday morning workout

Squat in the Smith: 115x20, 135x10, 205x5, 225x5, 2x255x5
Floor wipers: 3x15reps
Decline leg raises: sets of 20, 15, and 15

I’m all talk and no substance, I passed on the intervals yet again. I’m letting my hatred for all things cardio to win out. I need to get my head out of my ass on that one.

I’m going in tonight for some back work. I have a day long meeting at the capital city Wed, so no training. Nothing like a 3 hour ride to start your morning!

JW’s morning thought: Why do people constantly return to the refrigerator with hopes that something new to eat will have materialized?

hel could be dead on with the mental block. That seems to be the case with me.

I am not an expert by anyone’s standards, but I believe (take it for what it’s worth) that speed bench and/or paused reps could help you right off the chest. The speed helps with the explosiveness from the bottom and the paused reps emphasize strength at the bottom. The paused bench seems to turn it into almost a deadlift, if you will…no momentum, just raw power and explosiveness.

And, of course, trying 305 (win, lose or draw), will make 295 feel lighter by comparison.

Can’t wait to see (or hear about) it going up!

Tuesday evening workout

Rubber band dislocates: 20 reps
YTWL shoulder warm up: 8lbs
Reverse grip bent rows from a deficit: 115x10, 2x135x10, 165x10
Lat pull downs: 4x130x8
Inverted push up things: 4xBWx8
Face pulls: 4x65x10

Tried to "pull only’ tonight. I need to work the volume up a little bit. I also need to get some direction in my training.

Been watching a show on Discovery about some guys that log in swamps. Kind of interesting, especially since they are suppliers of ours from time to time.

JW’s evening thought: The eyes are the second thing to go…I forget the first

Thursday morning workout

Squats in the Smith: 115x20, 135x15, 205x5, 235x5, 2x255x5
Floor wipers: 2x15
Decline leg raises: sets of 20, 20, and 15

I didn’t run an interval today. I probably should have. It’s just been hard to get motivated to do intervals. Squatting felt good. I just wish it wasn’t in the Smith.

I noticed the mornings are a little darker a bit later. I was going to ride my Harley to work this morning but the adage “red sky in the morning, sailor take a warning”, stuck in my mind. I wussed out again. I’m going to have to “Man Up” soon!

JW’s thought of the morning: When does it stop being partly cloudy and start being partly sunny?

nice work- you are really consistent- in your training frequency-
nice work

Like I’ve said…he keeps going and going and going…

Harley, huh? I guess that is one of my failures. I have no interest in motorcycles… A car with a great 0-60, yes…but motorcycles just never got in the blood.

My parents wouldnt let me buy one as a teenager, dirt bikes were all the rage; Roger De Coster and all. I had the bug depressed until I was 42. The wife didnt want me to buy it, I did, didnt tell her about it, damn near got divorced. Anyway its my one real ‘hobby’ besides lifting. I love riding, just dont take the time to do it enough.

Friday morning workout

Rubber band dislocates: 20 reps
YTWL warm up: 8lbs
Barbell complex, 7 sets 7 reps,consisting of:
snatch grip high pull, snatch grip dead lift, reverse grip bent row all with 115 lbs,
ohp 75 lbs,
Smith squats 115lbs

I would do 3 circuits rest a bit and 3 more. i had planned for 8 circuits but gassed out on 7. I left the gym out wore out and didn’t even think about running in interval I was still sweating at 10 am. I’m going to get to 10 circuits before its all over with. However I’m going to raise the weights on the pulls to 135. Go figure, I’m a masochist…

Been busy here today. Now I have to go home and watch the daughter. The wife’s troubled nephew wrecked his truck and damn near killed himself. He is in the trauma unit in Virginia. The daughter and I are going to stay home and fish. They are biting about sundown, and she pulled in a 3 lb bass last night!

JW’s definition of the day: Puritanism: The haunting fear that someone, somewhere may be happy

Nice work j-willy.
Fishing sounds like a really good idea. I need to get my daughter out there. Boys are still too young. If I take them I end up spending most of my time recasting, or untying them, because they are always tangled in the fishing lines.

I LOVE that barbell complex

snatch grip high pulls are one of my all time favorites!!!
and I think they really help with bar speed when I pull deads.

I am adding them back in next week, this was a higher volume week.

sorry to hear about the nephew.

The fishing was good LS. We caught 2 bass a white perch and a croaker. The river is getting salty. Thanks for the thought KMC. The kid is lucky. Unfortunately the destructive behavior is systemic of a greater problem.

Good stuff. How old is your daughter? Mine is 8 and, so far, a good mix of princess and tomboy.
I still can’t get her to hook a worm, but she will do her own minnows.

I had to google Croakers. I don’t believe I have ever seen one before. 'bout all I’ve caught around here are catfish, bass, crappie and few panfish that I can’t identify.
