Bastardly early chest day. Dateline: Tuesday 4:10 am

Rubber band dislocates: 15 reps
YTWL 15 lbs PR (So I’m a PR whore, sue me!)
Bench press: Barx20, 135x10, 200x8, 230x6, 250x4, 280x2, 230x6
Incline BP: 3x155x8
Pec Deck 120x10, 2x120x8
Push up: 10, 8, 6
OH triceps ext. with rope: 3x130x10
Triceps push down with straight bar: 3x130x6
Elliptical machine: 10 minutes

Tony, aka Da Charming Albino, aka Skidmark, made a comment that my bench would take off id I increased my chest strength. As usual he was right. I started concentrating on my chest adding the pec deck and push ups as well as flyes (in hiatus for the moment) and BA-BOOM things are moving along. That coupled with being anal about technique has really helped. 280x2 felt light today. could have gotten 3 and a piece.

Saturday I’m going to DB press, do some floor presses and heavy ass triceps work. I wish I could dip, but my shoulder is still a bit gimpy. I need to work some more on a perceived weakness with my rear delts.

Yes I’m a shameless PR attention whore… 15 lb YTWL was pretty easy.

Had a busy day yesterday at work and at home. My dad has me rebuilding a spreadsheet that I made for me, to suit him, I had to get 2010 forecast guidance from a customer/ partner that can’t begin to think about what forecast guidance is, I drove 180 miles and rubbed my head balder. I’m going to have to lay off some under performers. I’m going to have to restructure our whole product mix. We have more bank meetings, low raw materials, and inquiries coming out of the ying-yang. The business is going to be really strong and we really can’t get the raw materials. I need a job where I can wear flip flops and shorts!!!

JW’s morning thought: True love happens once in your life… Bacon can happen 8 times a day, if you want it to[/quote]

That;ll be $25 dollars please. Unless you want to join the inner circle and learn all the secrets of muscle building and the do’s and don’ts of dating sheep - that’s $385.00.

Mmmmmmm, bacon.

Great bench progress! And I second DCA. Mmmmmmmm, bacon.

j-willy,

Congratulations on those 15# YTWLs, you animal you! And on the bacon (mmm, bacon!). And on the 280 BP!

Bastardly back day. Dateline Wed. 4:20 am

Rubber band dislocates: 15 reps
YTWL 15 lbs
Bent row, reverse grip: 135x6, 185x6, 205x6, 225x6, 185x6
Kroc rows: 90x10, 2x100x10
Hammer low rows: 3x90x10
Wide grip lat pulls: 3x135x8
Hise shrug: 3x315x20

I guess the double shot of GPC did its job (shameless Biotest plug). I am toying with a bent row progression similar to my bench progression. I was feeling froggy with the Krocs. 100 lbs seemed light in my right hand. My left still gives me troubles. Everything else was unremarkable.

Off to a 2 day contentious meeting with bankers and consultants. I’m kind of tired of being persecuted by them. I guess its the sign of the times. More news when its fit to print…

JW’s morning thought: Anyone who plans the future around bean counter information will find themselves in the spectator section…

Great job, Wilson. Moving up on the Kroc weights…nice. Good work all the way around.

Good job on the rows and Krocks. Oddly, my right hand is the stronger on the Krocks, and I am extremely left handed. Have fun with the bean counters.

Thanks Jack and Skip, I’ll keep banging on. I guess thats what keeps me sane!

No bastardly training today.

My daughter scared the crap out of me at 12:00 am when she jumped in the bed. so after putting her to sleep, coupled with all the crap going on at work I didn’t get back to sleep until 3am. when I alarm went off at 3:40 I turned over and kept sleeping… Now I feel like crap, I was going to squat and do some zerchers. Maybe tomorrow I will feel like it, and make the training up. I have a bunch more meetings today with bankers, bean counters, consultants, and the like. This type of crap drains the hell out of me physically, mentally, and emotionally. Yesterday I had prep work for the inquisition. Today its the real thing. I have got to hold my tongue and keep from popping off on some of the bastards. (I have a history with one of them.) Thankfully our consultant is a former banker with a chip on his shoulder. It’s good that we have this rabid bastard on our side… More news when its fit to print.

JW’s morning thought: An intellectual snob is someone who can listen to the William Tell Overture and not think of The Lone Ranger.

Wilson, all the best in your meetings. I can’t think of a worse group to have to deal with…especially right now. You will get through it, though. And I’m glad to hear that you have what sounds like a good ally in your corner.

Talked to my brother the other night and it looks like we are going to be out your way sometime between June 20th - 26th. For me it would likely be the 20th through the 24th (assuming I can get the time off…but that looks good). We are currently checking out rentals. We are going to have to do some negotiating, though, as I have an aversion to coughing up that much money for 5 days.
Looking forward to the vacation, though, and getting to watch you out bench me in person.

Looking forward to it Skip. I’ll not be out benching you any time soon. Thanks for the vote of confidance.

JW- Best of luck with the meetings! Make sure you check out grip article on the home page…right up our alley! A fellow grip impaired lifter.

Your rowing is looking really great. Guess using a banker’s neck for grip training is out of the question?

Thanks OG, I’m going to have to check the article out. Harry, we are kind of lucky in one sense, we hired this rabid bastard pit bull former banker to help us out. He is keeping them off our back to the extent that he can. The ox is still in the ditch but our rabid pit bull is keeping the wolves at bay…

I didn’t train this morning. I guess I should have gone in and squatted and done my zerchers. I elected to sleep in another day. Tomorrow is chest day. I’ll go in rested and relaxed in the morning and hammer out some chestilce training.

I’m fairly resigned to the facts of next year will be tough one of the toughest in my career. I can see it already effecting my home life. Try as I might, this economic mess filters to the home front and beyond. I watch the business my father built slip away, through no fault of his. We have to struggle with who to keep and who to let go. People that watched me grow up are on the line. the still call me “Little Wilson” I remember riding with them on forklifts or in tractor trailers. I watch them get grayer and wider. They watched me and my brother do the same. Still, I take the Stockdale approach to this. I am resided to the fact we can lose it all. But I have the faith we will work to position ourselves stronger and more flexible when its all over. We damn sure have too! My only fall back career skill is finishing concrete, and I am too old and way to white to make a living doing that!

As I look back on my training I’m pretty pleased. I have crossed the 300 range in my bench and my squats are finally real squats. Hopefully next year I can really build my volume squatting. I know my dead lifts will always suffer but WTF, everyone needs a Quixotesqe quest. Here I go in search of a 325 lb bench, a 300 lb squat, and a dead lift that is… well dead liftable.

JW’s stolen morning thought; given its snowing in Copenhagen at a global warming conference: The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.-- Bertrand Russell

Wilson, brother, that is a tough row to hoe. Fortunately, you are up to the task. In the end, fight to the last and do right by yourself, your family and those you employee. No one can ask for more. Prayers and best wishes that you and the crew come through this as unscathed as possible. Having gotten to know you, I am glad, for all involved, that your hand is one of the ones on the wheel.

On a side note, you’ll be past all those numbers before I get there this June.

Bastardly Chest and triceps training: Dateline iinsanely early Saturday morning

Rubber band dislocates: 15 reps
YTWL: 15 lbs
Bench Press: Barx20, 135x10, 200x8, 230x6, 250x4, 280x2, 280x3, 230x6
Incline DB press: 2x55x16
Floor press: 4x230x5
Pec Deck: 2x120x10, 120x8
Push ups: 8,6,5
RG incline press in the Smith: 185x8, 3x235x4
OH triceps ext: 12x30x10, 130x6
Triceps push down with straight bar: 130x10, 130x6, 130x10

I tried 280x3. the first attempt I set up wrong, and my music had me off kilter. My next track was George Clinton. 280x3 went up pretty easy. I probably should have set up in the power rack. I think I had a 305 max in me. Threw some floor presses in and decided to rep out on the incline db presses. Pec deck and push ups were done super sets. By the time I made it to the triceps work I was pretty well spent. The push downs and extensions are done in alternating super sets.

Had GPP at home. I carried 9 big ole rubber bins from the downstairs up to the attic. Now its off with the family in the midst of this northeaster to finish Christmas shopping. The GOOD thing is we are going to eat some good traditional Italian, not the red sauce and pizza we usually get.

JW’s morning thought after a week of bank meetings: A consultant is someone who takes a subject you understand and makes it sound confusing.

JW- Nice way to start the weekend…280x3…SWEET!!! Nice training.

Sweet bench, Wilson! The reps keep going up on 280#. Won’t be long before you’ll be repping 305# for 3. Great job!

So are you getting rain or snow?

Great work! 280 x 3 should be good for a 305. You should give it a rip before the new year.

you are cleared for 300. Rough calculation sez you can do somewhere between 300-315. Stay tight and go for it.

Bastardly back day, dateline Sunday 5:15 am

Bent row, reverse grip: 2x135x10, 2x185x8, 2x205x6, 2x225x4, 2x245x4
Kroc row: 4x100x6
Hammer Low: 3x90x10
Lat pull down: 3x135x10
Hise shrug: 4x315x10

Slept in this morning. I did bent rows in a pyramid. The extra sets told the tale on the Krocs, so i did an extra set. Probably should have done 5 sets.

Just about finished the Christmas shopping. Should be easier today. With the wind and the rain just about all the ways into south Hampton Roads were flooded at high tide. My daughter had a brief meltdown, which wasn’t surprising. I wanted to melt down about an hour before she did!

JW’s morning thought: Banging your head against a wall uses 150 calories an hour.

Thanks Skip, We had mostly wind and rain with a light dusting of snow. The only place it stuck was on the deck, car and roof. Jack, I’m going to give 305 a whirl next week. I’m taking the daughter to Disney after Christmas so I dont think I’ll get another chance. Thanks for the vote of confidence Tony. I hope 315 will fall soon.
