Rumblin', Stumblin', Bumblin' to 50

Good work, JW. The Kroc rows will really help your grip. I usually pick a weight that I can’t hold onto for all the reps and then move it up when I can.

On the oysters, Chef Ota in San Diego used to make us a shooter he called the “honeymoon special.” It was an oyster on the half with uni (sea urchin), and a quail egg cracked over the top with a splash of ponzu sauce. He claimed it would help you in the honeymoon suite. I am not sure about that, but it was tasty.
After reading that, I am going to have to wait a while before lifting. I don’t have the stomach for it  Sent a shiver up my spine that settled in my stomach. Sea snot, oceanic begger and untainted bird embryos…oh yummy…lol.

j-willy - overhand or alternating grip on the pulls? With overhand, I can only get a couple of reps at that weight.

Looking good j-willy. Working out that early just floors me. You and OG are just masochists.

I have gotten up early since I graduated college LS. I’m programed now. Plus the early morning lifting makes for a lot less disruption on the family dynamic.
Wish I had the strength of character to lift the way you do.

Alternating above 225. I grip is fu*%ing puny… :frowning:

j-willy, make sure to wrap your hands around the bar, so that it is high in the palm. Up enough that it wants to roll out. With the alternating grip, it can’t really roll.

The grip, like the rest, will improve.

Tuesday morning bastardly squat day:

Did not happen. I have the only 11 y.o. that cant sleep through the night. she had me up 4 times last night. I rolled over at 4 am reveille.

JW’s morning ponder: Old age is when you still have something on the ball but you are just too tired to bounce it.

I totally understand the grip issues. I have to use straps for my high rep rack pulls because my grip will give out long before my back gets warmed up.

“Give me oysters and beer, for dinner every day of the year, and I’ll be fine…I’
ll be finneee” Jimmy Buffett

JW, the grip will come. Diesel crew website has a lot of grip work stuff if you’re interested.

seems like the new environment is really paying off!

Keep pulling and it’ll come. Wait, let me clarify that. Keep pulling weights on the barbell and the grip will improve.

Not that your 1st, unqualfied statement isn’t true as well.

Tuesday morning bastardly chest day

Rubber band dislocates: 15 reps
YTWL 10 lbs
Bench Press: barx20, 135x10, 170x12, 180x10, 2x190x8, 170x10
Incline DB press: 2x65x12
Flat bench fly: 3x35x10
Rev grip bench press: 3x115x10

I had an uninspired bastardly chest day this morning. This was the second light bench day. Saturday the weight goes up a bit, so maybe I will feel like I’m doing something. I am getting used to the bench now. That is a good omen. I did the reverse grip on the bench. I’ll probably start to do them in the Smith. I can’t pick much more weight off the hooks than I’m doing now. I can get more poundage if I use the Smith. I do like how they pump my tri’s.

I didn’t sleep worth a crap last night. Seems yesterday the bank decided they didn’t want us as a customer. I guess they are trying to make up for the Great West debacle that lost them the company. They don’t want a customer of 50 years that has never missed a payment and payed back 3/4 of its debt borrowed. The rat bastards… I want to throw them the keys and say take it and run this sombitch. BUT one cant walk away from 80 years of history. So I guess I will have to let cooler heads prevail and batten down the hatches. We have done so much new stuff that has made a difference, just not a big enough difference… SSOO here we go. A new chapter in my life. I step in the darkness of unknown, without a clue if I will have a legacy worth passing onward. At least the iron is constant. Right now I need that constant…

Damn… Sorry for that vent, rant, and pity party… That FU%$KING BITES!!!

JW’s morning statement: Monday is an awful way to spend 1/7th of your life.

Joe: I’m thinking I need some wrist wraps and straps.

I’m going to look at the Diesel Crew grip stuff, Eco.

Yep MJ, the new digs are paying off for me. I wish it was closer to home. But I do enjoy the 4 am training.

Harry, thanks for clarifying that… I’m going to do some more pulls on my squat days…

LS, Oh to be as strong as you… I’m going to chase your big self

JWilly - The bank thing sucks. Been through it myself. sorry you have to go through it. Best of Luck

I don’t use wrist straps for anything. Grip strength increases quickly. Give it a bit before you jump to using straps. Just my two cents.

Thanks OG. It isnt going to be fun. But as I heard on season 2 of Top Chef every 8 minutes of each episode… “It is what it is.”

Eco, I will yield to your experience… no wrist straps for a while.

But a lot of much stronger guys then me use straps. I just wanted you to know there are some of us who don’t use them.

Fuck the banks. They forget that they are here to make the economy run, not to hide in holes after they fuck everything up. That’s about all I have to say on that, other than I am sure you will find a way to make it work. That’s what guys like you do.

And I agree with Eco, resist the urge to strap. Chalk and some Kroc rows will help with the grip issues.

Lift hard,

Jack

Noted… on the banks and the straps…

That is Bullshit. Kick that banker in the balls.
I always have your first reaction to shit like that bank pulled,
had few “scenes” with retail or other businesses where I dont hold back.
feels good but bad for business.

Now I let other people do the talking - wife, insurance agent etc.

I rarely use straps, Judo, wrestling, and work have given me a silly grip.

I used to train grip quite hard,
I found the bigger the diameter the better the squeeze/grip

Ill give you the best two.

tennis balls on top of the pull up bar.
hold them in your hand- on top of the bar.

towel grip everything, over the pull up, bar or any bar, for cable work.
pull downs, rows etc.

they are something that requires very little investment,
and is easy to implement
really the towel thing is the easist- dont wrap the towel
pull using the towel
