I wish my daughter would take up a musical instrument. Poor girl thinks she can sing. The only reason we don’t tell her otherwise is because her “singing” keeps the rodents out of the house. Good thing we love her.

LS, we have voice lessons on Mon, ballet on Wed, pottery on Sat, and now flute practice all thru the week. We are going to a framery to enter some work in the county and state fair. My daughter the artist… Nothing wrong with that!! [/quote]

Good grief! And you still have the energy to workout. THAT is amazing. My daughter has no interest in instruments. She wants to try soccer and softball. She has done ballet and gymnastics. Her artistic side is comprised of the howling she calls singing, drawing and she likes to build things out of wood. Unfortunately, she has no concept of what wood is for what job. She tried to convince me for us make her Mom a picture frame the other day. Even though the only wood laying around was 2x6’s and 3/4" plywood
She is a good mix, though. She is definitely a princess and drama queen, but likes fishing and camping, wants to go hunting and will even hook her own minnows. She hasn’t graduated to worms yet.

Wednesday evening workout

DB snatch: 4x55x5
Jump shrug: 4x185x6
Reverse grip bent row: 4x185x6
Hise shrug: 4x266x6

Nothing really sexy about tonight’s training. I really like the db snatches. 55#s is about the limit on my left arm. I think I can pull 75 with my right arm. I have always liked to lift shit over my head. I can get a little bit of a fix with the db work within the confines of my ‘health club’ With all the shrugging I hope I I can build my traps just a shade.

JW’s evening thought: A bus is a vehicle that runs twice as fast when you are after it as when you are in it.

A. Screw then. Just cause they’re stronger than you doesn’t mean you’re weak. And 15 years makes for a lot of difference.
B. That’s a good selection of music. Zydeco will definitely help but a steady diet of de cayenne peppers will put you over the top. Just picked these.
C. Your daughter is very talented. Enjoy the time together.

Thursday morning workout

Squats in the Smith: 135x20, 205x12, 225x8, 2x245x5, 2x265x5
Floor wipers: 3 sets of 10
decline leg raises: sets of 20, 20 and 14

My legs were a little rubbery leaving the gym this morning. I kind of like that feeling in the morning. Traps are slightly sore from the shrugs last night.

I had my first evening of flute practice last night. The daughter spent all night blowing through the mouthpiece. This of course came after a trip to the orthodontist and the framery to frame her fair entries. AAAHHH such is the life for the father of a 6th grader. We are hoping Danny decides to stay off shore this weekend. Her pottery class is supposed to rakou fire their pots they made last weekend. Don’t ask me what the hell that is… I’m just the father of the artist…

JW’s morning thought: Men have two emotions: Hungry and Horny. If you see him without an erection, make him a sandwich.

Friday morning workout

Rubber band dislocates
YTWL
Barbell complex: 7 sets 5 reps each motion
Treadmill interval: 20 minutes

Just another manic Friday morning workout. I just about passed, but decided to go anyway. I’m glad I did, although I can’t figure out exactly why I enjoy getting my ass kicked in the morning like this.

JW’s morning thought: 3,000 years ago in Egypt, cats were worshipped as gods. They have not forgotten this…

Jwilly- you are one of the most consistent with your training,
nice work.
I like the one arm db snatches too.

Amen! We have 4 of them. The older male and I have to re-confirm who is alpha every now and then.

Hmmmm…4 cats and possibly high E. D@mn! I need to get a dog!

Thanks Kmc. I think I need to push a little bit harder. Some times I’m not sure if I’m digging deep enough!

Get a real dog. We have a rat terrier. He is a weanie dog. It probably doesnt help we had his nuts cut out… Still the cat out weighs him by 15 lbs.

Saturday morning workout

Rubber band dislocates
YTWL
T-bar rows: 3x135x8
Lat pull downs: 3x130x8
Wide grip upside down push-up thingies: BWx6
Chest supported rows: 3x165x8

Tried to push the upper back a little bit. I don’t really feel like I succeeded.I’d have to grade this morning as adequate.

I took the daughter to her pottery class this morning. She fired her pots using a Japanese method called Rakou, I think. It was pretty interesting but then again ole JW don’t know shit about pots.

JW’s thoughts of the day: Why does someone believe you when you say there are four billion stars, but check when you say the paint is wet?

Sunday morning workout
Rubber band dislocates
YTWL
Bench press: barx20, 135x15, 205x8, 225x5, 4x245x5
Incline DB press: 3x50x15
Flat DB Fly: 3x25x15
Triceps push down with the V handle: 3x70x12
Reverse grip incline CGP in the Smith: 185x8, 185x7, 185x5
Reverse Fly: 3x45x8

I figured I had better try to train a little smarter around my bench. I worked 80% of my max and the tried for rep work during the assistance work. That was kinda ok, well other than the reverse grips stuff. I had the moving heavy shit bug up my ass… Should have squashed that bug earlier.

I think I’ll try to take a more measured approach in my training over the next few weeks. Back to China on Sept 9th, so for 10 days I’ll have a disruption. I’ll freak those Asians out with some of those freaky new complexes.

JW’s morning comment: My wife told me, “You are such a good friend that if we were on a sinking ship together and there was only one life jacket, I’d miss you heaps and think of you often.”

Nice workout j-willy. I always like to see you benching.

China again? How often do you go over? Do you get to do any sigthseeing?

Thanks LS. I’m trying to take a more sustainable approach to my bench work. Yep, off to China again. We are building our brand over there, so it is taking 2-3 trips a year to support my guy in China. I don’t do much more than sit in the meetings and give validation to his credibility. Hopefully I can get it to no more than 2 trips a year in the future.

We don’t do much sightseeing. Most of the factories are in southern China. While its different, just imagine spending time in a heavily industrialized US city. You have to look the real beauty.

That’s too bad. I have always thought China a very interesting place. Wouldn’t want to live there, mind you…just the great wall, all the dynasties, etc…
Do you tower over the locals? Just wondering if the perception that the average East Asain is significantly shorter is true. I read someplace that the average Japanese soldier, in WWII, was 4’10". And I thought my wife was short!

I agree China is very intresting. Unfortunatly I’m just too work focused a lot of times. The port at Yantian is a marvel. It’s like 40 times larger than the ports of Hampton Roads. That was pretty cool to see. Of course the size and the scope of the economy there is phenomonal. This is with half of the factories closed!!

My associate there is like 5’11" and 205 lbs. I guess I’m about average height of most of the people. I just have 100 lbs on them pretty easy. Same for vietnam, I’m about the same height as most, but there I have 125 lbs on most people.

Monday morning workout

Rubber band dislocates
YTWL
Barbell complexes: 7 sets 5 reps each
Treadmill interval: 20 minutes

I had all intentions of going for 8 or 9 complex sets.By set 6 I was about to puke. At set 7 I gave up the ghost. I just barely made it thru my treadmill interval. I think I’m going to try that Tumminello complex for a while. That will be an interesting one to do when I’m traveling.

Looks like a day of wet weather here in eastern NC. Seems all summer we have been wet and not so hot. that isn’t all a bad thing, At least the swamps are full and there is no talk and drought worry. Farmers have good yields with corn and soybeans. It’s been dry enough to plant fall cabbage. Interesting what you think about when you live in a rural agrarian area.

JW’s morning thought: How is it one careless match can start a forest fire, but it takes a whole box to start a campfire?

This has been the coldest wettest summer in North east to, we live in NYC and weekend in North east PA…
and its been cold wet all summer- bad for the garden and bad for bee keeping.

JW I think you dig plenty deep, training in the am is not for soft people

Tuesday morning workout

Squats in the Smith: 135x20, 205x12, 225x8, 245x5, 2x265x5
Floor wipers: 3x10
Decline leg raises: sets of 20, 20, 25

Just another squat day. Nothing remarkable other than I opened up my stance up a bit and felt more powerful out of the hole.

More meetings with the bank today. No margins and a poor economy are not a manufacturer’s friend. Include a depressed housing market and being in the forest products industry, it makes you a banker’s nightmare. Well you know how the banks are today… They don’t care for nightmares.

JW’s thought of the day: A bank is a place that will lend you money, if you can prove that you don’t need it.

Wednesday morning workout

Rubber Band dislocate: 15 reps
Barbell complex: 7 sets 5 reps each movement
Treadmill interval: 20 minutes

Once again, between the complexes and the intervals I was used up before 6:00am. With the stress of work and home I needed this morning.

We have become a pariah to the bank. In their eyes we are no worse than Iran or North Korea. I guess surviving in a depressed industry since 2006 and a 60 year relationship doesn’t mean much to them anymore. It’s just one more thing to work through!

JW’s morning thought: With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine.

J-willy- sorry to hear about all of the stressors. Everything is so friggin’ corporate anymore. The whole idea of community and actually knowing the folks you work with/for doesn’t seem to mean a whole lot.
