I’m doing the Smith squats… For me it’s kinda like being in a strip club with your eyes chemically dialeted… There is something inherently not right about that.

Lol…great analogy.

Saturday morning workout

Rubber band dislocates: 15 reps
YTWL: 8 lbs
T Bar rows: 4x135x8
Inverted “push ups” in the smith (wide grip): 4xBWx6
Lat pull downs: 4x130x8
Face pulls: 4x55x10
Chest supported rows: 4x145x8
Treadmill interval: 20 minutes

I had a good workout this morning. Nothing really exceptional to report, other than the inverted push up things are tough to do from a wide grip.

As I walked out this morning I noticed I didn’t here the ospreys fishing. You can hear them calling when they are really working the river. My fears were confirmed. The ospreys in the river have moved out. I guess Fall is approaching. Thankfully the ones in the sound are still around, enjoying the late season fishing. almost ran over a wild turkey this morning. THAT was exciting. I think hitting that bird would have done the same amount of damage as a deer. I can remember when the only wild turkey you would see around here was in a bottle. Now they are trying to be road kill!

JW’s thought of the day: Follow your dreams (except the one where you’re at school in your underwear)

Sunday morning workout

Rubber band dislocates: 15 reps
YTWL: 8 lbs
Bench Press: bar x 20, 135x15, 185x10, 3x205x15
Incline DB press: 3x50x15
Reverse grip CGP inclines in the Smith: 4x195x6
Cable triceps extensions: 3x60x15
Reverse flys: 3x45x8
Treadmill interval: 20 minutes

I opted for a rep day today. It’s kind of a different approach for me and was kind of fun. I walked out with a good pump. I also noticed my shoulder wasn’t as gimpy after my workout. Still no real direction with this training other than trying to get stronger. Once again the interval waxed my ass.

Going to more more furniture. My daughter wanted to re-arrange her room yesterday. My job was the furniture moving. Now the wife has the bug, re-arranging the living room next!

JW’s morning thought: Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit; Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.

Here’s a tip, furniture sliders. You can get one that stick to the legs of the furniture. They have ones for carpets and hardwood floors. Then the ladies can do it themselves or life gets real easy for you. I use them at work, move a sofa with one hand. Get them at any hardware store or Walmart etc.

It always fun to mix up the workouts. As long as you’re working out you will always be on top of your game. I’m just finishing a moment in limbo. Now I’m all fired up. My shoulder still won’t let me go over the two hundred mark without serious discomfort, so I’m sticking with the push ups.

Knowledge, the ability to understand. Wisdom, the ability to apply that knowledge. Sometimes I’m not so good at that. Stay strong brother and keep having fun!

Nice work, j-willy. Going in and hitting reps can be a good thing. The best part being exactly what you pointed out…the gimps aren’t as evident. Not to mention, the overall wear and tear is just less.
My wife and daughter do the same thing. They like to move things around every know and again. Usually I am at work when most of that happens, though. Unless it is something really heavy.
Right now my 8 year old daughter has what, for all practical purpose, is a queen sized crib. Turns out her day bed and sofa are the same height. So, I walk into her room one day and the sofa and bed are pushed together…queen bed with borders on all sides. Looks, and actually is, rather cozy. Unfortunately I am too long for either.

Those two a days look fierce Willy, you’re a better man than I.

Monday morning workout

Rubber band dislocates: 15 reps
YTWL: 8 lbs
Barbell complex: 7 sets, 7 reps each exercise
Treadmill interval: 20 minutes

Typical conditioning day, other than the fact my shoulder seems less and less sore. I’m hopeful this is a good sign. I was even able to lie on my left side last night. Its the first time in months! Off to sawmill a little but today. Hopefully we can get some of it right today.

JW’s thought of the day: Did you know that dolphins are so smart that within a few weeks of captivity, they can train people to stand on the very edge of the pool and throw them fish?

Tuesday morning workout

Squats in the Smith: 135x20, 185x12, 205x8, 225x5, 245x5, 2x265x5
Floor wipers: 3 x10
Decline Ab raises: sets of 20, 20, and 14

Nothing to report out or the ordinary with the workout. Normal leg and stomach day. I did loose my de-facto training partner. The person had a priority change and will not be working out in the mornings. I am sure the shape of my workouts will change in the future. My strength goals will be the same, only the journey will be different. If only this damn gym had a power rack!

JW’s morning thought: Having sex is like playing bridge. If you don’t have a good partner, you’d better have a good hand.

This person was a good spotter and helped me push myself along. Plus no one else comes in as damn early as I do! Life changes, so will my training. Its all about the journey. A change of scenery can be a good thing.

JW wow you are tearing it up.
@ a days are brutal, but so rewarding.

still see your enjoying the bb complexes.
nice work

Tuesday night workout

Bench with bands: Barx20, 135x10, 5x205x5
Incline DB press: 3x65x8
Triceps push downs: 3x70x12
Reverse DB Fly: 3x45x8

What a strange TTuesday. I was pretty much all alone in the gym at 7pm. I didn’t have anyone around to spot, so my weights are kind of mediocre at best. Still I had a pretty intense workout. I seem to rest less between sets and cruise through things. So while my numbers are down, I left really used up.

Wednesday morning workout

YTWL: 8 lbs
Rubber band dislocates: 15 reps
Barbell complex: 8 sets, 5 reps each
Treadmill interval: 20 minutes

I raised my squat weight to 135 and the OHP to 95 lbs. Got an extra set in with the complexes. By set 8 I would have puked, but I didn’t have anything in my stomach. SO I packed my shit up and headed for the treadmill. After my 20 i was wringing wet and my tongue was hanging out. I’m glad it was just me, ESPN, The Weather Channel, USA Network, WAVY, and WVEC in the gym. I’d rather the TV’s “watch” me leave like a whipped puppy.

Went to the Doc yesterday. Weight has not changed in 6 months, dammit. He drew some blood, refilled my scripts, had a candid conversation on the ramifications of Obamacare. I’m still on all my meds…DAMMIT!! Oh well… the journey remains.

JW’s morning commentary: Children… You spend the first 2 years of their life teaching them to walk and talk. Then you spend the next 16 years telling them to sit down and be quiet.

I dont know how brutal the 2adays are, but they are fun way to break up mid week crap. Yes I kind of enjoy the complexes. I like pushing my limits. Appreciate the kind words Kmc

Wed evening workout
Rubber band dislocates: 15 reps
YTWL: 8 lbs
DB Snatch 5x50x5
Hang jump shrug 4x185x6
Thibs’ DB trap thingie I read in the T-Nation news letter: 4x10x6
Chest supported BD Row: 4x45x6

The workout went REALLY fast. Not many people in the gym. I was able to speed through things. I wanted to put more big pulls in. I figured I could add a hanging jump shrug in and not raise the ire of the fitness crowd. Went home tired and sweaty, still didn’t sleep worth a shit.

JW’s thought of the day: A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing.

Thursday morning workout

Squats in the Smith: 135x20, 185x12, 225x5, 245x5. 2x265x5
Floor wipers:3x10
Decline leg raises: sets of 20, 20, and 14

For the first time in a log time I felt the squats in my glutes. I guess I’m getting them right. Plugged in the Ipod and kept squatting away. My abs are sore, the floor wipers are quite a workout in themselves. I’m still struggling for some direction in my training. I guess that will be a never ending quandary for me.

Hot as hell in eastern NC. Ole Bill will stir up the surf this weekend. I’m sure the OBX will be crawling with surfers. I think the family and I are going down Friday afternoon for the last weekend before school starts. Maybe I’ll do some benching at a ‘real gym’ while I’m down there.

JW’s morning comment: Women will never be equal to men until they can walk down the street with a bald head and a beer gut, and still think they are sexy.

ahahaha! love that quote!/ comment!

I have the same issue.

A few days at the bench sounds great. And just think, a 12 hour drive and I can be at one

Friday morning workout

Rubber band dislocates: 15 reps
YTWL: 8 lbs
Barbell complex: 7 sets, 5 reps each
Treadmill interval: 20 minutes

WOW for some reason the complex kicked my ass royally! Haven’t changed much, other than adding 10 lbs to the OHP movement. I am more anal about starting and stopping the OHP at or about ear level. Seems I remember something a poster, DCA (formerly the famed skidmark) said to me about that and shoulder pain. That REALLY helps! I was used up by the 7th set. I was shooting for 9 dammit!! I have no clue as why I ran the treadmill interval, other than I am a glutton for doing stuff i hate.

Off to the beach for the weekend. My youngun starts school Tuesday. The wife has a school staff meeting for her sub position on Monday. The cool thing is the daughter is going to take some pottery classes for kids this fall… along with ballet, flute lessons, voice… How the heck did I father an artist?

JWs thought of the morning: He who smiles in a crisis has found someone to blame.
