Rugby on the other hand I played in college… well, you get to roll around in the mud beating up other girls - what’s not to love??
I think you were in a dream I had last night…
Rugby all the way. Futbol puts me to sleep, though playing it is a fun way to get some cardio in.
Rugby is to soccer as American football is to baseball.
That’s a good comparison. I could go with that.
I played football (aka soccer) for 5 or 6 years and loved it. I’m hoping to try out for the rugby team next semester, so I’ll know the answer to your question soon enough.
I like what Hank Hill (of King of the Hill) has to say about soccer:
HANK: Bobby, I never thought I’d need to tell you this, but I would be a bad parent if I didn’t. Soccer was invented by European ladies to keep them busy while their husbands did the cooking.
BOBBY: Why do you have to hate what you don’t understand?
HANK: I don’t hate you, Bobby.
BOBBY: I meant soccer.
HANK: Oh. Oh, yeah, I hate soccer. Yes.
you cannot take a one-sided video of two of the biggest bitch flopping teams in the World Cup…and put it against the hardest hitting highlights in the Rugby world’s.

Hey guys, this is my first post. (Had to, this is my favorite topic!)
A quote from a dirty old Kiwi rugger:
“If there is one thing I can’t stand in this world, it’s soccer. I have absolutely no interest in watching a pack of fairies kicking a ball around and watching 0-0 results after 90 minutes. I don’t want their chequebooks, their lifestyles or even the smelly old trouts they parade around as Footballer’s Wives. I am not of the opinion that a man should have long hair, and a pony tail is even worse, let alone earrings and waxed legs. Maybe I do have a problem with trying to find my more sensitive side but I was brought up on a dairy farm in NZ in the 70’s & 80’s and we shagged Sheilas and sheep, drank piss, worked hard and played harder.”
That sorta sums up my opinion as well… I vote Rugby
firstly i can’t stand the word “soccer” its called football and has been sine the mid 1800’s.
football was only allowed to be played at break times at my school, rugby was the sport. wasn’t a huge fan myself as i was a small runt of a boy who always ended up being the hooker and having to survive by being agile and fast enough to avoid the fattys.
i’ll always remember something my rugby teacher once said
“football is a game for gentlemen played by thugs, rugby is a game for thugs played by gentlemen”
i watch both but prefer to watch football, rugby is more exciting when your playing.
Rugby is an amazing sport that consumes your life and eventually fucks up every joint in your body leaving you barely able to walk. It also leads to alcoholism and frequent displays of public nudity. Obviously Rugby is the better sport.
between the two i would go with soccer, and to be more specific i think indoor/street soccer is more enjoyable to watch. the amount of control these guys have with the feet is just exciting to watch.

I love football, but the spirit it is often played in at the highest level is a fucking joke.
People diving and trying to get each other sent off is rife. It’s a shame.

This is the main obstacle to the game getting wider acceptance over here in Australia. We are brought up on a diet of three tough games - the two rugby codes (league and union) and Australian rules football. When you see a soccer player go down in a screaming heap after a bit of a bump your first thought is “what a pansy!”. Now compare that to a league or union player getting straight up after being absolutely pole-axed by a tackle or an Aussie rules player being “shirt-fronted” and you can see why these codes are more attractive.
The Australian soccer team had a reputation at the World Cup of being the toughest, probably because there is a little bit of the Aussie upbringing in their style of play - tough tackling and no “diving”, just get back up and keep playing. For this reason they won over a lot of fans and the game is stronger as a result. What was a shame was the fact that we lost to Italy in the second round when the Italian player clearly dived in the penalty box and won the penalty at the end of the game which won them the game. They reckon that this just confirmed a lot of Australians’ suspicions about soccer’s “pansy” image and about half of the extra fan converts to the game because of the World Cup would have been lost in that moment.
Rugby is my favourite sport but I also enjoy soccer as I can appreciate that they are different games, I just wish that soccer would allow more “argy-bargy”!

Professional soccer players have an amazing touch on the ball. I don’t think the average joe realizes how skillful the pros really are.

I must agree with that, soccer requires a lot more finesse and skill than most people (particularly someone who has never played) realize.
