Well this will be the 3rd week going that I have not gotten the start at loosehead.
It appears the rotating selection policy is no longer in place and I am now just a relief at halftime.

I don’t think that is where I want to be with this club, I’ve pretty much given up. The selection criteria (must be at minimum 1 training session per week to start, be on time for meetings/training, etc.) are not being applied uniformly.
Considering traveling abroad to learn rugby league…

That sucks mate, sorry to hear this. Takes the fun out of the sport…
Where are you playing? Your location says Portugal but your picture shows Gloucester Rugby, just curious.

You mention playing league before, I’m not an expert or anything but just know that having fun was probably the first reason why you’re playing this sport so why not keep it like that

Keep strong brother.

I know what it is like to suffer from frustration when playing a team sport. Don’t do anything drastic and keep a level head. Have a good think about your options and remember its only a game and its only a season. Next season things could be totally different.

Very true, and I keep reminding myself of the fact that this may pass and I may soon get the results I have worked for and earned. But at the same time I ask myself why not just move abroad and play for a club that has a different atmosphere, one based on merit and things are earned, not given.

So obviously I am torn at the moment, but you are right. Thanks for the positive words, bud.

I’m currently playing in the States, which I believe may be the main contributor to the favoritism and absence of meritocracy.

I am strongly considering travelling to Oz to learn league (from the best in the world), as I really enjoy it the few times we use it as a training tool for union. I understand the physical adaptation to the new code would probably be significant, but the running lines, passing, tackling, etc are all still essentially the same. Thanks for the positive words buddy.

Saturday

Match

Played the entire 2nd side match, fucked shit up. Big hits, wheeled scrums, plenty of breaks over 50meters, fed a couple tries to other folks, fucking dominated.

Didnt play at all in the first side match, not sure why. Captain told me it was because I played the full 80 in the 2nd side match (was a curtain raiser for the 1st side).
Over it.

Sunday

Pool
2 easy laps with walk recovery between
walking stretches
pool tempo runs (in place) x 2 x 6 @ 30sec work, 15 sec rest
Stretch

Worked on deadlift form and squat form with the lady friend for about an hour after the pool

Monday 4/7/2014

No training performed

Tuesday P.M.

Abs - 200 reps
Charlie Francis sprint warm up
Sprints - OMIT (pulled hamstring first 10 min of match on Saturday)

Team training - sprint fitness at start of session, then ran some pattern play for about an hour. I felt fucking good, making tons of space, running awesome lines, even our fat fuck coach was complimenting me. We’ll see if that translates to a start on the weekend.

Wednesday P.M.

Youth rugby coaching

Worked in with the youth players, ran some touch for about an hour, felt good to loosen up. Hamstring is improving.

Keep giving it your best.
The rest will take care of itself.

Stay strong brother

Thursday pm

Team training-low intensity
ran some non contact games, other crap, captain named the exact same side from last week aside from 2 guys who’ve been absent for 2 weeks.

It appears our team selection criteria of attending minimum 1 training session the week of a match is also no longer in place.
Getting pretty ridiculous with these selections.

No training Friday.

Played less than the final 10 minutes of the match Saturday.
I asked the coach prior to taking the pitch what he would like to see from me. His words: “when you make a mistake, don’t scream and yell, just keep your cool and get to the next job”.

Not terrible advice when taken out of context, but also not very uplifting when about to take the pitch. Very bizarre things going on with this team.

Some coaches have no idea. I don’t know how they find themselves in such positions.

Good to see you got some game time, although I suppose there is only so much you can in 10 minutes. I feel for your frustrations, as I myself will most be probably be quitting from my team sport in the next few days.

Thank you for the empathy, it is helpful when other athletes recognize a mismanaged situation.

Sunday

No training or specific recovery

Drank beer, got sunburnt, watched some racing
