ROTC Questions

UPDATE

I got an e-mail from the officer of admissions at West Virginia University. Copy+Pasted Below

[quote]Nick,

Congratulations on your decision to submit an Air Force ROTC scholarship application! Here at West Virginia University, we are very proud of our Air Force ROTC program and would be happy to welcome you into it should you decide to attend WVU.

As a potential out-of-state cadet, I’d like to highlight a special offer WVU makes to ROTC cadets. If you receive ANY type of Air Force ROTC scholarship, WVU will cap your tuition to ensure it is entirely covered by the scholarship. Type 1, Type 2, and Type 7 scholarships all pay full tuition at WVU! Additionally, WVU now offers a FULL ROOM & BOARD scholarship to students who enter on an Air Force ROTC scholarship.

Preparing for college can definitely be an intimidating task. As you move forward this year, please feel free to ask me any questions you may have regarding Air Force ROTC. I really am happy to discuss, no matter where you decide to attend school.

Good luck with your senior year!

What should I make of this?

I also started flying lessons. I now have about 2.5 hours in the air.

Various universities do this. You can research and find which ones. Do you want to talk to them?

I was on the Army side of ROTC at WVU. We had a very strong program that consistently scored well in national competitions. (Ranger Challenge, Bataan Death March at White Sands, LDAC, etc).

From what my friends on the blue side at WVU said, their program was pretty strong also. A few things to keep in mind. 99% of the AF Cadets were engineeering. You had to be in awesome physical shape, and that meant doing PT on your own time. During labs and so forth I only ever saw them…attempt to march around. haha. You need to be top one or two to even have a chance to do the fighter pilot thing. Grades, PT, ranking within your class and on a national level, and…some serious networking.

On the other hand, Morgantown is one hell of a party town. The only place I’ve ever been that even compares is Austin, TX.
