I’m so pleased for you on the new bench number. I’m also pretty jealous  Good on ya!
Thank you!
I jumped off the bench with a big smile on my face and almost hugged the guy that was spotting me, I was so happy

cvb, I’ve been doing the floor db benches also. I don’t need a spotter and it seems harder, but I always find a spot clear on the floor when the benches are full

Hey Ronda? do you have a spotter? I tanked my shoulder trying to up my weight without a spotter, … maybe I should just do this in the smith machine
I don’t have a specific spotter. When I hit this PR this older guy came up and was complimenting me on my lifts and I mentioned my trouble getting to 135 and he said if I wanted to try it he would spot me. So after I hit 130 and it seemed easy enough I asked him. I have really never had a spotter before that time, it made me a little nervous.

When you hurt your shoulder did you warm up properly? I find the only time I have shoulder trouble, even with light weights, is when I don’t warm up enough. Sometimes I will start the morning off doing cable rows at a light weight, about 70lbs, idk but it helps. I also do a few other shoulder streaches but I have no idea what the proper name is of them. Then I start my bench with the empty bar and work up from there.
If your shoulder is still bothering you take Motrin and let it heal, even take a week off. Then go back start that exercise slowing, warm up, and pay attention to your form. You should be able to avoid injury from there.

Thanks for the suggestion. I actually am bad about warm ups. I will definitely give that a try next time

This week has just plain been a sucky gym week, ok well except for the PR, but other then that the holiday really screwed up my normal schedule. Whatever, I’ll get back to it next week, I just need to make it through this week.

One Arm DB Row 1x6x40, 4x5x50

Upright row 1x10x40, 2x8x50

HS Lat pull down 1x8x90, 3x8x140

Corner BB Shoulder press 3x8x30

Cable Row 1x12x70, 2x8x80
One of my fingers went numb when I was doing this, that was kind of weird…

Tricep Pulley… 2x8x30
I have no idea what this is called but I do know it works…

I kept lurking here this week, but never said CONGRATS on the PR…so, congrats!! :stuck_out_tongue:

Thank you! beams

Damn good work on the bench press. I think you’ll hit 145 before the end of the year and 185-195 next year.

I also think you’ll hit a 300lb DL next year…

You really think so? I’m willing to aim for that

Bench Press 1x10x45, 1x10x65, 2x6x95, 2x5x115, 1x5x125, 1x1x130, 1x3x135
I am really just shocked that my triceps were holding me back so much. It seems like the more triceps I do the more my reps and weight goes up in bench press, I wish I knew this earlier…

T-Bar Rows 3x8x55

HS Iso Row 1x8x180, 3x8x200

HS High Row 1x8x160, 2x8x180

Inclined DB Bench Press 2x10x35, 1x6x40

NG DB Bench Press 2x8x40, 1x6x45

I lose weight yet all my lifts go up… I am so not complaining about that

I’m not sure it was your triceps holding you back as much as it was a multitude of environmental things.

Plus sometimes you have to grind a bit before you see more improvement.

In the end you should be damn proud of getting past it and moving on.

Like what? Whats diffferent now?

SLDL 1x10x45, 1x10x95, 1x10x115, 1x10x125

Leg Press 1x16x95, 1x12x180, 1x10x270, 2x6x360, 3x5x450

BB Curl 1x8x50, 1x6x60,2x5x60

DB Curl 1x8x30, 2x6x35

Single Leg Split Squat 2x8x80

I had to be into work to early this morning to go to the gym so I went right after and yawn am I tired.

On a side note, I am really bothered my men that use straps for pulling or lifting any and everything in the gm, I just don’t get it…

I have to disagree with JoeGood, triceps play a key role in benching. Again congrats on the PR what is your ultimate goal for your bench?

Maybe ultimately 225 but I really don’t have a set goal in my mind that once I get to it I will stop. For instance I now have gotten to 135, ok good. Now can I do multiple reps at 135? If I can do that can I get to 145? 150? I just figure I can keep going until I can’t.

I think it could also be a mental thing…

Do you mean with benching pressing?

I am not so sure about that, at least in my case. I say that because I really don’t think that I can’t hit a certain weight, eventually. I tend to work up to weight goals slowly so hitting the next goal is just a matter of time, but I will get there, eventually. In the case of my bench I just had to do more tricep work I guess

Ahh but I never said the triceps didn’t play a key part. I said that in her case I didn’t think the extra tricep work was the reason.

She didn’t add that much extra work and hadn’t been doing it for very long either to totally explain the increase.

Well you have been having your training be irregular from traveling for a bit in the past and now you aren’t and that sort of continuty is bound to have a positive impact.

We’ve also isolated and eliminated certain exercises that bothered your shoulder and that also had to have a positive impact.

You haven’t had a severe blood sugar issue for a while and that could ahve an impact.

Lastly your mental attitude has to have improved now that you are not so stressed about school and money.

I am still noticing that you mix up upper and lower body.

Is it because you feel like you missed something if you do an actual split?

I know if I do JUST a leg day that somehow I feel as if I missed something.

I still want to do my legs twice a week at the least

It is just to keep the muscles from getting totally fatigued so I can hit them or a secodary muscle again later in the week.

Joe put it this way :

“The simple answer is that it is a split but with a tiny amount of variation. The only difference between what you do and a traditional upper/lower is that you do small muscles with legs i.e. biceps and shoulders”
