So I started this thread to kill time and because people love to hate the Cowboys it makes a good discussion.

I love how everyone myself included judge QBs different than every position and how visceral the responses can be about “their” guy.

I get defensive because I believe that because of fantasy football, a “good quarterback” now means “guy who has great statistics.”

That, as a football fan, offends the shit out of me. Growing up, there were quarterbacks with better stats than Phil Simms, or Joe Montana, or whomever, but nobody fucking remembers them. Why? Because they got their asses kicked and their teams sucked.

The quarterbacks we remember are the guys who played great when everything was on the line, who won Super Bowls, who took their teams deep into the playoffs every year.

Now though, you have people trying to “debate” whether a fucking guy like Tony Homo, who’s won one fucking playoff game, is better than two-time Super Bowl winner Ben Rothliesberger, two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning, etc.

Back in the day, before people lived and died by statistics, people would have laughed their asses off at this. Who would have said that Warren Moon was a better quarterback than Joe Montana? Steve Young? It’s ludicrous.

I fear that one day, people will be talking about quarterbacks from the early part of the century and guys will say…“Yea, Manning was good, but he fucked my fantasy team every week with his interceptions.”

So it’s probably more of a problem with people that have brought fantasy football to the point where it’s more important than REAL football.

x2… Johnny Unitas has 37 more career TD’s than INT’s and a career passer rating of 78.2, and is considered one of the all time greats for being a playoff winner. Brett Favre much the same way, could throw 29 picks and have Madden gushing about the 32 TD’s he threw. Quite a bit is media driven as well… there are a lot of quoted opinions in this thread.

So you guys really think he is done?

I think Peyton challenges this year deep in playoffs and that is from a guy who has 20 years of medicine
Dude, I love Peyton Manning. Like, seriously love the guy. That United Way spoof he did a few years back with the kids, and his commercials, totally changed my outlook on him - he plays the asshole so well and really enjoys it. He’s got a sense of humor.

And I love the way he plays - fiery, very passionate, perfectionist, intelligent… I really hope for nothing but the best for him. He’s everything that is still Good about the NFL.

I just don’t want to see him hurt himself.
Yea same here and that is a concern but really his chances of injury are about the same as before.

Romo just doesn’t produce. I can’t really measure how much of that is him sucking and how much is the whole Cowboy franchise under performing (it’s hard for a QB to do well with lousy protection and bad receivers).
Romo: 31 TD’s and 9 INT
Eli: 29 TD’s and 16 INT

Way to not produce.
Romo has ALWAYS been the better fantasy QB.

It’s only even become a discussion now that NYG is no longer (legit) two-deep at RB and hit two upperdeck homeruns with Nicks and Cruz.

Romo is the most overrated QB in the game.

My fear is that Romo is another Danny White I suffered a lot of years with Danny.
I def feel your pain. (Vince Ferragamo, in my case)

Keep in mind that if Peyton retires tomorrow, he played for 14 seasons and is 36 years old.

That’s a full body of work - it’s not like his career has really been “cut short” by the injury. Let’s be fair here - his best days are way behind him, neck injury or not.
I agree completely. My comments were directed at Derek’s statement that Brady & Peyton are the only elite quarterbacks. I say Peton has to make a comeback to once again be elite and I think the chances of that are much less than 50;50.

Over rate?

That makes no sense, nobody Rates him high? Everyone loves to take punches at this guy so how is that over rated?

You have a point, mine is more that there is nobody in the league like these two. Rogers and Brees are right under these two as far as QB play.

Your team is going to the playoffs tomorrow , and you could have eli or romo as your qb you would be a tard not to pick eli , who pick eli . Who gives a shit about the reg season its all about superbowls.

Since this is the only active football thread, thought I’d post this off-topic story

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/vikings-rb-peterson-arrested-houston-180816389--nfl.html

“Vikings RB Peterson arrested in Houston”

Seems totally out of character for him.

Umm, as of maybe 2 yrs ago, lots of people sucked on his nuts big time… maybe part b/c he was a decent QB here and there, and part b/c he’s a cowboy

Okay can you list who?

People either love or hate the Cowboys, most of ESPN and the NFL network have been like most people high expectations of the Cowboys, however they have been a mediocre team as evidence by their record. Romo has put up numbers with that mediocre team so being the QB he takes all the blame.

Like has been stated already in this thread most people are Fantasy Football fans and have no concept what it takes to not only get to the playoffs but win in the playoffs.

Im just glad they are making Cowboy Stadium a tornado evacuation shelter since there arent many touchdowns there…crickets…

As a matter of fact one of my friends/clients was just telling me this weekend (since I called in a script for a Zpack and cough medicine) that one of his clients gives him 2 tickets every other year with box VIP seats. So he said his wife hates football and would I be interested…yea that did not take much thought.

Haha I love fishing and hunting but Id rather upper management take me to a NFL game with good seats anyday. And yes, that even includes a Cowboys game.
