Roadwork 2.0: the Comeback

I don’t believe sprinting is easy but to me a sprint would be 100, 200 even 400 meters. Max effort for 6 or 7 seconds over 40 meters does not require a great deal of fitness and I doubt it is what someone who is trying to improve their cardio is looking for. A boxing round is 3 minutes, not less than 10 seconds. Tell the average person to run 40 meters as fast as they can run and they will be able to do it. Tell them to run 400 meters as fast as they can run and they won’t finish. Tell them to run at 80% of their top speed and they still won’t finish.

I also suggest you actually read what I wrote since your responses seem to be to some other post out there. Training sprints the way sprinters train them, you know, to get faster (not leaner, not more fit) requires long rest periods which is not the best thing for conditioning. Now, 200 meter and 400 meter sprinters will include endurance work but that would look like “jogging.”

Drugs or not, I’m right. Tell us all how less than 10 seconds of effort helps cardio? Hell, even the highly touted Tabata protocol used efforts of 20 seconds.

You’re in over your head buddy.

I’m not opposed to running. I run 30 - 90 minutes, 4 - 6 times a week in 90 degree Thailand heat. ( Best way to tan btw )

#2
I train in combat sports. And in my personal and humble opinion, running does very little to increase my training threshold. I’m sure millionsssss would beg to differ, and that is fine. So why do I still jog? Because it’s fuckin enjoyable. I go over submissions and striking combos in my head. It’s my meditation. I run by the local town where there’s farms, cows, and beautiful temples and shit.

#3
Sprinting and jogging are both forms of running, but it’s still different. Greco Roman wrestling and catch as catch can wrestling are both grappling, but completely different forms of it. With that said, you can do both or just one. And you decide which wolf you feed.

#4
Please take note, what Staley is ultimately saying is that if you want punching endurance, don’t substitute running for rounds on the heavy bag. If you want to swim longer, just swim some more. Just don’t aimlessly run without having a clear cut motive.

#5
You don’t train athletes. Period. It’s even possible that YOU aren’t even training, based upon your obvious ignorance on the topic.

And lastly #6
I don’t give a shit if you can run 50 miles with ease. A high level BJJ practitioner will have that runner gassed in under 5 minutes on the mats.
Even Lance Armstrong, on EPO and test, had to train to run a marathon… which he stated was abusive to his joints. Hearst Magazines

Does this mean running is bad? No muthafucka, it just means if you wanna run, you gotta make running a priority. Just like if you wanna fight 5 five minute rounds in the cage, you should make practicing 5 five minute rounds in the cage your priority.

Jarvan, you are in over your head if you think you can out douchebag me. As far as running you are out of your element as well as I ran track which trumps whatever you know via MT training. I also have been doing bjj longer than you have been a douchebag so don’t even try and bring that up with me. Besides, all of that babble you posted really doesn’t even address anything we’ve been talking about. Do you even have a point? I think you should ask yourself that when it comes to your life in general.

It’s not your fault as people from Jersey believe that not only are they the best at being douchebags but they are obligated to prove it any chance they get. Free Sharpe James!
