Preach.

That said I have started training to do BB back squats again because I should be addressing the mobility and strength weaknesses they expose and not avoid them. Worth considering.

I’ve given up. It’s been 4 months, nothing helps. Nothing I do mobility wise works. I’m convinced I need a reputable sports physio to look at my squat and get adjustments, also get deep tissue massages. In about 6 weeks il be working full time so I can afford it.

Nope lol. No reason to back squat if I have better alternatives that dont feel like my bodies going to explode. Last training cycle my front squat went from 120-150. My back squat didnt improve at all, all it did was give me back pain and worsen my hip

Perhaps spending some time working out why is so bad and fixing it might be a good thing. You have many years ahead to work it out.

Yep! I was at the point of quitting the gym because back squats were ruining it for me. They’d feel so God damn shit and fuck with my hip and back and it was seriously messing with me. they were programmed 2×a week. I didn’t want to train at all. I thought how stupid so I should just ditch it until I fix it.

there is nothing that says that everyone should be able to back squat. don’t stress out over the back squat when you have plenty of other options.

dave tate tells people to only use spider bar squats for max effort work because they suck more so you’re fine. don’t worry about trying to fit into a movement pattern. you’re still squatting lol.

That’s true. It was mainly because my coach squats 300kg and programmed them in so I felt pressured like I had no other option. That and it’s a strongman event. For now I’m just avoiding them and I talked with my coach so I can use the spider bar instead.

They definitely suck more! Feels like your soul is leaving your body. I feel like a 500lb spider bar squat is way more impressive than a 500lb barbell back squat

Yeah I really got caught up in that. Imo front squats are superior for strongman anyway

That’s not a huge amount of time. That said, it’s up to you and @bonoboschimp is right that you don’t actually need to do barbell back squats - just be sure you’re not masking/avoiding weaknesses instead of tackling them.

Also fair. I still want a big bench even though my training is strongman-focused purely because I want to be strong all over and because having a big bench is cool.

Maybe I’ll buy this one.

This is the plan. Hopefully if I keep trying maybe il be able to back squat comfortably. But it’s no use loading up the back squat if it’s just going to fuck my body up and feel like ass

Lol!!

Well you might just use to heavy a load Young Duke. No need to load it up. Try doing a tempo squat 5050. That’s 5 second eccentric directly to 5 second concentric.
Fokus keep the foot stable with pressure on the whole foot two points at the forefoot and 1 point at the heel.
Keep a straight bar path,
stand up with hips and shoulders rising at the same time and speed.
Knees should travel in line with the toes not to wide not collapsing.
If the bar don’t travel directly up and down or your weight shifts from front to back or back to front, your heel raise, you stand on either side of the foot something is wrong. Do it barefoot to feel the feet.
Work on ankle mobility, that is what hinders a lot of squats. Including mine. Mobility should be a focus point for the whole body.

Sorry Duke long rant.

Why not ask you coach to teach you the squat.

But then again you don’t need to squat and if you decide to ditch it, then it’s fine.
But I would ask your coach to teach you.

Hes been trying his best lol. Been incorporating alot of paused and slow tempo work.

Next comp!! In about 5-6 weeks

Yoke 285kg×15 meters

Axle press medley 80-90-100kg

16 inch axle tire deadlift ladder
180-220-260-300kg

Farmers walk medley
10 meters drop then heavier weight back
100kg than 130kg per hand. Coach says event will be won really by fastest time with the 100 there and whoever can manage the 130mg for atleast a few meters.

Sandbag to shoulder for reps 100kg

Let’s go boi

You go crush it Young Duke, how do you feel about the events?

Basically the event runners dont expect many people to finish every event… to sum it up heavy as fuck and brutal but the events look fun.

today’s training
Front squats
85,95,100×5

Shit. Lots of hip shift and leaning to right side. Honestly give up at this point because nothing I do works. If I get injured it is what it is.

Top half lockouts
40kg had to drop to 35 set 3
5×10 superset with push press 50kg 5×10

Lat pulldowns 5×20

go back to the basics, but with lighter weight. it sucks i know.
