Deadlift you must do them and you must learn them.
Try to find the breaking deadlift by Dr John Rusin and Dave Tate on elitefts.
It’s the easiest lift of them all.
We’re build to pick shit up from the ground.
Stand up close to the bar,
Reach as far down the quad as you can, like on a shrug.
Brace,
Hinge,
Grab stupid bar hard,
Pull to the bar says click,
Brace even harder and squeeze an orange in your armpit,
Pull hard,
When bar reaches knees fuck the damn thing and throw the traps backwards.
Easy.
Now you find a bar load it up and do it.
@T3hPwnisher what would your opinion be on using the log ×2 a week. I was thinking on my bench day to familiarise myself with the rack position and the like to unrack in the power rack and do log presses, and on mondays do log Cleans. Then once I’m efficient enough at both, put the movements together?
I have done it before. If you really want to dial in the cleans, take 70% of your 1rm clean and do EMOM triples of the clean for 10 minutes. Stole that from Brian Shaw, and it works well. Total gasser too.
I have never pressed a log out of the rack though. I don’t think I could set up a good position without the clean.
So 3 reps every minute? My shoulder strength is up to par so to get anything out of log presses i really need to work on the clean at this stage. After the cleans I’ll do my strict press variation and other assistance.
I saw a video of brian shaw doing it, I’ll give it a try. Worst case scenario it doesn’t work out. If it doesnt I’ll just clean for one rep and do presses from there and focus on my rack position and leg drive.
be more aggressive with the clean, and as has been mentioned, make sure you get your elbows all the way through. they definitely need to finish higher. Like, if you removed the log, your hands should look like they’re ready to punch yourself in the face, rather than punching straight up. lol. That will help you to have a sturdier rack position. Overall core tightness is crucial once you get to the rack position to be able to get solid energy transfer to the log. I like to flex my butt hard when I get ready to press. That tends to cue the rest of my body well.
As to the talk about Thor, the 500kg deadlift, etc…
I will bet my entire bank account against anyone, and even give 20:1 odds against Thor getting a 500kg deadlift in his next PL meet. I’m expecting something in the 950ish lbs range.
I don’t believe anyone will get a 500kg deadlift at the Arnold. I was there to see last year’s Arnold, and I could tell Pritchett doesn’t do well with the Elephant bar. It doesn’t seem to suit his deadlift style. He really struggled just to get over 1000 lbs. Plus, he’s always injured. Thor’s 1040 moved fast, really solid lift, so it wouldn’t shock me if he actually improves on his own record next year.
I’m surprised JF Caron and Pritchett got mentioned as contenders for the 500kg, but not Shaw. Why is that? Shaw had a better showing at this year’s Arnold than both those guys.
Thankyou. Btw how much should i push my head through? Ive seen alot of different things when it comes to that. Some sort of dont push there head through at all, some a little, and some like in a normal push press etc.
950lbs seems reasonable, like i mentioned before i believe it’s all hype from thor and his coach. Maybe if Thor took some time to focus on powerlifting he could do some serious damage, but just training for one meet isn’t shit. He is the strongest man in the world currently, but that doesn’t mean strongest powerlifter all of a sudden.
Do you think Rogue’s only offering 50kg becuse they don’t think it will happen? That seems like a big prize for just deadlifting
It’s an awesome rivarly between the mountain and shaw right now. Shaw must be itching to win when he’s lost 3 competitions this year to thor.
Rogue is one of the few companies trying to grow the sport, and that payout is still pretty light. I imagine they would love to pay it out, just for the publicity.
all the way. lol. Yea as soon as you can, you should push your head through for stability to finish the press. I’m not very good at doing it, but when I do it right, it helps a ton.
Well, he could set a record total with a 950 deadlift. So there’s that. I think he’ll have a huge squat to go with that deadlift as well. Bench may be his weakest lift. Hard to know.
no. I think they’d love to pay that out. That’s pennies to a company as big as Rogue. They absolutely want their bar attached to a 500kg deadlift.
Todays training
Wow… thankyou @mortdk Deadlifts felt best they ever have. I could feel the click too from pulling slack (was inconsistent but have never heard that)
Hey young Duke
you’re very welcome. Don’t overthink DL.
That DL looked pretty good. Now you just do that over and over.
And next time stay tight and reverse the DL and lower the bar all the way to the ground.
Hinge hinge to the bar reaches the knee, as you did, then bend knees until bar touches the ground. And if you’re filming it, that is the exact spot you should start the pull, for the next single.
By the way if you really want to drop the bar, do it at the very top. Don’t do it halfway to the floor, you body is in a compromised position and the sudden impact when letting go could tweak something… I think.
If you want to see how to lower the bar, go to littlesleepers log and find some of his DL videos, putting down 600 pounds like the plates were made of glass.
You didn’t ask me but I’ll chime in here because I am doing overhead 2x a week, 2x log every other week.
It is absolutely possible, but I’ll warn you to be cautious with the Intensities. Log press is the overhead movement that stresses the lower back the most. So If you squat and deadlift as well during the week, the lower back demand can add up quickly with the wrong intensities in place
