Thats about it. Although my push press form is kinda more like a strict press with a little leg drive, if i was push pressing properly i feel like it would be above my bench. My strict press is close to my push press.
My strict press is about 75% of my max bench. I can say for a fact though that i feel ive been blessed in the shoulder genetics department but left out with regards to chest.
Yeah i do military press strict. To me thats what it is anyway. In strongman its get the weight up overhead any way you like just lock the thing out. So if i say something like axle press its most certainly with leg drive involved.
Never. I’ve never even filmed a set of bench. I think it probably sucks balls. To be honest i don’t care about it though, I’ts just an accessory exercise. It doesnt matter how much you bench in strongman.
True. I don’t feel my push press technique is very good though. Its like a strict press with a bit of legs lol. I have certain strength goals I’m goimg to hit though before i care about it. Because think of it this way, if i can hit 100kg on axle press with more strict press form and hardly utilising legdrive and rack position then I’ll be alot stronger with good push press technique. Like brian alsruhe gets 100lbs out of his push press compares to strict.
If this were true then we wouldn’t be having this discussion .
You’re using the weight lifting world’s (not the actual sport) standards when you think your bench should be anything compared to your press. If you’re going to concern yourself with “their” standards then you should learn “their” technique.
Lol roasted. Im thinking of ditching it as a main lift though and doing another day of overhead variations. I mean I’ve never heard of a top strongman promoting the bench press for improving overhead strength like big z etc, however he does credit the high incline smith press as a massive overhead builder. I know close grip bench improves lockout strength but there is plenty of other good movements for triceps.
Personally at this stage i cannot say for me that bench doesn’t have good carryover, after all it is pathetically weak and my form could use alot of improvement.
Honestly my Overhead probsvly still has a few lbs on my bench. I hit 205lbs/93kg x3 in my prep for TXSM, but around that time I don’t think I could’ve tripled that on bench. Bench is tricky to progress, I’m just slowly hammering away at it as good as I can.
God I wish I could say that, my top bench is 330lbx2 and my best double for push press is 245lbs, strict is only 190lbs. Ill trade you bench gains for overhead gains.
I think incline would help you more than flat bench. When I seee people leaning back on their press it looks like a high Incline press instead of a shoulder press. That’s probably why Big Z likes the high incline press.
Wtf my daughter is 8 and does these at karate every session as part of the warm up. She also does push ups on her finger tips and is now trying to do a pistol squat front kick combination.
Todays training. Good sesh

So the supplement company i buy from ran out of chocolate, so i ordered chocolate hazelnut protein, and it tastes like what actual chocolate hazelnut tastes like! The chocolate tastes no where near…
