The booing of the American national anthem happened in Montreal and most Canadians I know were embarrassed by it. Two nights later however, the anthem was cheered by fans at the Toronto maple leaf’s game. At the home opener for the blue jays, both the anthem and “America the beautiful” were cheered loudly. As for Rick Mercer, he pokes fun at the U.S in a tongue in cheek, good natured way. He plays on the stereo typical view of americans and how they are perceived by canadians. He also has a pretty good self depricating sense of humour about Canada and canadians. In fact the show “this hour has 22 minutes” is totally about making fun of Canada and the canadian way of life. Everyone needs to take a deep breath, count to ten and not take life so seriously, although I know a jerk-off like Say can quickly bring out the worst in people. I think that’s what floats his boat and is his only purpose for posting the shit he does.
I beg to differ, Magnus. While This Hour Has 22 Minutes pokes fun at Canadians in a good-natured way, I don’t feel the give us Americans the same good-natured feel to their mockings. How you take it is one thing, you might just be light-hearted. However, the Canadians I know use this Talking to Americans bit as verbal ammunition for letting me know how stupid and fucking retarded my country truly is. So like I said, how you take it is one thing, how they take it is another thing. They’re the majority…majority rules, therefore, Rick Mercer must die.
