I was wondering if anyone on this site knows how to really make a resume look good without too much work experience. I basically have been trying to get a full time job the past 2 months in the surrounding areas where I live and have not had any success.
I spent 4 months in between jobs one time. It gets frustrating but something will come along.
As far as a resume goes, go to amazon and look for an e-book called “guerilla tactics”. I don’t remember the exact title but if you search for that you should find it. It’s a good book and gives lots of examples for different kind of resumes. It also gives info for interviews. I had 2 job offers within a week of changing my resume to reflect what the book said.
Good luck
Couple things to ponder.
-
Are you applying for a job in a creative industry? If so let the resume relfect that.

Conservative ? 1 pager max. Concise. Precise.

I as a hiring manager have never spent more than 30 secs scanning a resume. Whats that mean ? Two things:
a. The resume needs to highlight what they want to know ( regarding you taking that position.) quickly. Best way to do this is put yourself in the position of the hiring person and think hmm what would a perfect resume be for this job ?
b. Put the information in to small chunks that show the important info at a glance instead of making them chase around the resume looking for info.
And the above suggestion seems fine enough to me otherwise.
Goodluck
Make sure you point out where you WANT to go as well, and how you want to get there by working hard. Not too ambitious but how you want to work hard and save and stuff and what sort of things you want to learn on the job etc…
And yeah that guerilla book is probably good, the guy did a good book on guerilla marketing
another important thing to consider is your cover letter. You MUST have one if you’re applying for a professional position. Alot of other managers i’ve spoken to say they do there first culling based on cover letter alone, they don’t even look at the resume the first time thru.
Make sure it’s clear and simple and you state any important personal or professional information that didn’t fit in the resume. also make sure you create a new one for each position you apply for. Don’t create one generic cover letter and expect it to get past.
