Not knowing the solution and not being convinced that the cause is X are separate. You are not even trying to argue for the assertion at this point.
People have the right to protest. Some get violent. IMO, handling the violence when it occurs is the best solution, but does not guarantee that the protests or violence is going to stop.
Guns sales are through the roof from what I’ve been reading. I think more and more suburban people are buying guns fearing BLM/Anitifa and similar mobs/rioters will be coming to their subdivisions demanding they leave their homes and give them up “for free”. And the fear is the police will do nothing or be constrained. Interesting though, from what I am reading, it’s white millennial girls that are the heart and soul of the movement. Someone alluded to that in an earlier post.
A riot or protest is initially a response to a certain event. That would not be attributable to the president. The sustained nature of what we are seeing now is different, and is a reflection of the divisive culture Trump has created.
The culture was already becoming very divisive before Trump was elected. And blaming him for the actions of people who are against him makes no sense. What they are doing is not going to accomplish anything, and in fact may even be working in Trump’s favor because unlike the Democrats he at least appears to be prepared to do something about it.
You don’t remember those protests where they were changing “not my president”? That was when Trump was first elected. He had no power before taking office, it’s not him alone that divided America. Democrat politicians siding with rioters as people are injured and killed and their homes and businesses are destroyed is not going to bring people together. If anything, BLM is the most divisive thing in America because they are increasing racial tensions more than ever.
We have to handle it as it happens. We can’t shut down peaceful protests, because we are afraid they turn into rioting. Like it or not, that is what we should do.
Crime isn’t okay either, but I am not about to say we start arresting people before they commit crimes.
I am okay with arresting people who do these things if there is there is good evidence. At a certain point, jails fill up. Then a choice needs to be made on who is kept and who is released. I don’t think it is possible to jail all of the rioters.
Not really sure TBH. Only a couple have been killed. That seems statistically small when we think of the millions protesting.
It might surprise you, but even before George Floyd, many violent criminals were not dealt with. Many are on the streets to this day.
Fire does not indicate that most of the protestors were not peaceful. It only takes a couple people to cause a lot of fire. Do we just arrest everyone because a fire happened?
I don’t support this, unless there isn’t room to jail them. Then they should prioritize keeping the worst criminals in jail.
30 out of 15 to 26 million is statistically very small. Black Friday’s kill rate is getting close to these horrible violent riots. Understanding that 0.0002% of the attendees have died puts it into a bit of perspective, don’t you think?
What? How exactly is rioting due to the country’s climate? The rioting is the result of rioters, that is, assholes who have been led to believe by leftist elites (and by their lazy parents) that they need not respect the property, safety, or opinions of others. Trump is not my guy, but tying the riots to him is simply counterfactual.
I am not arguing that police are hunting down black people.
I am expressing doubt about the claims that these protests are as some would want you to think (blood and violence). If you go Black Friday shopping you are far more likely to be killed than if you go to one of these protests / riots. I just said that to put some perspective on things.
They can declare it a riot and order people to leave and those who don’t can be charged for taking part in a riot. To charge someone for arson you need to prove that they were actually involved in the arson itself, which is harder to prove than rioting but can still be done.
Ok, so we agree on something.
The same argument could be made about questionable shootings and killing by US police, but it’s enough for months of rioting across the country.
Just like most left wing narratives
You never saw any of the videos that @Sloth has been posting? They aren’t killing people left and right, but there is certainly violence as well a lot of destruction of property. And not only is there nothing to justify this, but it doesn’t help their cause either. Unless the idea is to use reverse psychology to make more people vote for Trump of course.
