Rerack the Weights!

Quit being pussies…if the weights are left on, remove them. If you see a lady struggling, help her out. There’s no need to “chase people down” and tell them…if you do that, you’re a tough guy looking for trouble. Yeah it’s annoying…then I spend 20 seconds at the most removing whatever I don’t want and go on with what I’m doing.

This goes back to the old “should I clean the bench when I’m done sweating on it” – fuck no. If you want that clean, you clean it yourself BEFORE you use it.

If you want to be mad at anyone, be mad at the morons who do shrugs standing on the shoulder press machine seat or the jackasses that take up the only decline bench press for doing situps for half an hour.

The main problem I have is this. It’s a rule in EVERY PUBLIC GYM AROUND to rerack the weights. I pay money to go to these places and expect some of respect that I give to the other members. It’s not my gym or a private powerlifting gym where I can toss weights or everyone squats at least 405, it’s a gym where every level of strength and fitness goes to.

Why shouldn’t people have “common” (in quotes because it’s obviously not that common) courtesy when it comes to this. If someone is waiting for a rack or piece of equipment I will ask them if they want any weight left on, if they want a 45 that’s what I’ll do, if they want no weight I’ll take all of it off.

You know why? Next time I’m in the gym and want a piece of equipment or bar from someone I’ve been courteous with they are going to be a lot more likely to be friendly to me than a guy leaving weights around everywhere. It has happened and continues to happen.

A guy today needed to squat after I was done with deads out of the rack. I could have left 400 lbs at shin level and said “go ahead buddy” or I could have stripped off the weights and lifted 135 to the hooks with him. Which one would you choose?

About the tough guy part of your post… you are calling people pussies for following the rules that they signed a contract agreeing to do so. I could go on forever about this but I’ve got to eat and get big and strong so I can go try to start fights in the gym on Friday.

The real pussies don’t say anything. They take the easy way out because they are afraid of confrontation.

You think “The Gym” in Plymoth MN is bad, my new one is the worst bay far. I’d say only 1/3 of the members put their weights away. Never have I seen so many dipshits in one weight room.

I swear, why do I even bother. Sometimes I just want to say f–k it, and leave my plates on the bar every w/o. Its that bad.

And I forgot about this part. I clean the bench with my towel after I’m done, I also wipe my forehead/face with this same towel. You can bet your bottom dollar I would never wipe off someone else’s sweat on a machine with a towel that’s going to touch my face. Are you being serious?

I work out in a college gym. You can imagine the amount of cocksuckers there are who leave their weights on the bar.

Not only is it fucking obnoxious because me and everyone else doesnt know if the equipment is being used or not, there actually are girls who lift, but might not feel comfortable taking 45’s off the bar when its overhead.

At the gym where I just started lifting, this is such a common practice that I just had to make myself not give a fuck, for the sake of my sanity.

Seeing as how this topic has been discussed a LOT, I figure I’ll hijack the thread with a funny gym clown story…

Yesterday, a UPS guy came into the gym. I assumed he was there to deliver RTDs or something, IDK. Boy, was I wrong! He sauntered on over to the cable station, dialed in his preferred weight and, with his big brown outfit on, complete with that huge electro-gizmo for signatures pinned to his belt, he starts his machine-curl routine and gets right into his workout. WTF? What kind of a candy pants workout do you have to do that you aren’t restricted at all by your big brown cloth suit and a big electro-gadget hanging off your belt, AND you don’t even have to drink water?

Same shit happens in my gym. At the moment were over run with lazy shit bicep boys. But its not just the casuals. We more hardcore types do it too. Now imagine this. The more hardcore of us get our workouts in before the rat bastards come in and swarm every piece of equipment before fucking off to the pub to flex they’re newly polished guns.

Because of the layout of the gym the dumbell rack (which is for 25 kilo up to the 60 kilo dumbells)is closer than the vertical dumbell stand (4kilo to 20kilo) so the big strong lazy fuckers leave the big bells wallowing on the floor and the bicep guys with their lovely haircuts and pristine white extra small skinny fit vests leave the little weights on the big weight rack! I have at times seen as little as 8 kilos in a space labelled for 60.

If Me and my regular gym buddy are last in the gym we make a point of re racking everything in its appropriate place. Leave it to the gym staff I hear you cry? Well normally yeah but this is a small spit and sawdust ymca gym very old skool(which is why i cant figure out what the ponces go there for)

First thing in the morning its opened by a couple of sweet old dears who will even make you a cup of tea and bring it to you in the gym. lol. And in the evening its closed up by a 45+ woman who’s seen better days. There is a guy works there between 9-5 but as the gyms open 7-10 hes no use. If anyone reading this is guilty of the above crimes do us favour and think of the poor bastard that has to rack your weight

I’m at an LA fitness too, and it is terrible for re-racking. It’s the worst around the dumbell racks, DB lying everywhere. People tend to leave plates on the bar in the squat rack, but luckily not too many people venture into the power rack, whick is nice cause I like to do my squats, standing presses and chins/pull ups there.

I can’t wait to either

a) find a serious gym

or

b) build a home gym

Some jerk off was doing 1/4 squats with 275# the other day, and when he was done he loaded the bar up to 425…and just left it there. He loaded the bar up, and left the gym 5 minutes later. This goes far beyond not just reracking the weights, I don’t know what the hell this guy was thinking.

What happened to common courtesy and manners?

Its the LA virus infecting our culture. I’ve never seen so many disrespectful douchebags in one city in my entire life. The douchebags in other cities have more manners at least.

I miss my serious gym:( Maybe I should start heading over to Golds in Venice.

He should be shot!

Years ago I saw some guy leave 600lbs on the bar after squating. That guy was one strong asshole.

At my college gym, there are signs posted that say ‘Please rerack all weights and dumbbells when finished,’ but people still leave their weights laying around. It is a college gym, so I wouldn’t expect anything less, but then again, you wouldn’t be in college if you couldn’t read.

I think it’s an arrogance thing more than anything. People think the job of the employees is to clean up after them, so they just leave stuff everywhere. Very disrespectful.

Also, does anyone have problems with females leaving weights laying around? Every female I’ve seen work out always puts their stuff up. It seems like it is just guys who do it.

I never really thought of that, but it is true.

Maybe it’s because women know it’s a priveledge that we even let them leave the house. Next thing you know, they’re going to want to vote.

I rarely see women in our weight room. The one’s that come in are pretty good about reracking their weights. Its against the law to confront women in California anyways. You’ll wind up in a sensitivity class.

Ah, they don’t really wanna do that. You worry too much. Just stick a lit cherry bomb in the nearest woman’s purse when she isn’t looking. That should gentle her up.

It was kinda funny today. I’m getting ready to use a row machine in which there is already 35’s on (70lbs, puss) not only that, I can’t throw 25’s on it because the plates are placed with the numbers out!

I flip out a little, talking to my partner and he can’t understand why I’m bugging. I explain and he now understands.

It’s a funny way of teaching on the fly gym etiquette. Rage out a little. People start to become a little bit more aware of their surroundings. Your words literally begin to hold weight.

I hear you man. I also workout in a college gym. The people there are a lot more stupid. They either don’t return the weights or place the 45s where the 2.5s should be. I must be the only one putting the weights back where they should be. Heck, even the personal trainers don’t do it right. They mix the plates and dumbells all the time. I couldn’t tell if the weights are used or not.

  1. Thou shalt have no leg extensions instead of squats
  2. Thou shalt not make thy neighbor tidy thy weights
  3. Thou shalt not curl in the squat rack
  4. Remember the workout day, to keep it holy
  5. Honor thy father and thy mother and thy favorite pro
  6. Thou shalt not kill thy muscles (stimulus is enough)
  7. Thou shalt not commit adultery (unless shes well fit)
  8. Thou shalt lift steel or iron
  9. Thou shalt not bear false witness to weights you could never lift (just cos its an internet forum doesn’t meen you wont get caught out)
  10. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors muscular development (compair thyself only to thyself)
