Republican and African Americans

I recently noticed kanye west was a trump supporter. Saw his recent tweet with an autograph signed MAGA.

This got me wondering. How can the republic party help African Americans.

Kanye has always been pretty pro black. I kind of always categorized people who were pro black with democrats. So I was surprised when he announced he was pro trump.

I was thinking of ways the republican party could help blacks. The only things I can think of is that they were against illegal immigrants and were opposed to refugees.

^reason I thought of these two were because of the fact that why are we spending money on refugees when their are African Americans living in ghettos, and going to schools in crappy areas.

Also I always assumed republicans wanted to focus on Americans first before immigrants

Also my bad if I have been creating too many political threads. None of my friends care about this stuff that much so I just been coming on here and just asking for yalls opinion

  1. Immigration

Restricting illegal immigration would help African Americans (and also legal immigrants), due to simple supply and demand.

Unskilled (and semi-skilled) labor in the USA is surprisingly cheap for a developed country. It is cheap because there is a constant flow of illegal immigrants increasing the supply of workers against a relatively static (although slightly growing) demand for such work.

This results in wages at the bottom being disproportionately depressed.

African-Americans, being in the middle-low and low end of the wage spectrum, get hammered by this artificial supply of cheap labor. They can never demand higher wages because some guy from El Salvador will take their job.

So cutting off the supply of illegals would do wonders for African Americans (and poor whites and everyone else who is at the bottom of the food chain).

  1. Teachers Unions

Part of the reason public schools suck in the USA is you can’t fire bad teachers or institute merit pay (nor create private schools paid for with tax money). You can’t do this because the teachers’ unions don’t like it.

Who has the Democrats bought and paid for? Democrats.

So if you want better schools, fire the Democrats that make the rules.

  1. Crime

Who are the most common victims of crime? Minorities.
Who is soft on crime? Democrats.

  1. Jobs, jobs, jobs

A rising tide raises all ships. The best thing for the economy is lower taxes, less government spending (in general), and less regulation.

Democrats hate all that stuff because it means they can’t trade favors for money for themselves.

So if you want more jobs, hire Republicans. If you want to live in a socialist wasteland like Venezuela, hire Democrats.

That’s why blacks (and everyone except the filthy rich who run the Democrat Party) is better served by Republicans.

I’m a fan of not “helping the blacks” but to simply step out of the way and let them succeed.

No real big sociological theory here, just 45 years of life experience that includes meeting black people that are/were smarter, harder working, and more motivated than me.

This actually makes a ton of sense. They both have very similar personality traits, and Kanye is very wealthy, which historically means you’ll lean right for the tax implications.

Are republicans actually in support of this?

Whites are the most common crime victims in America

The lower taxes part only works if you ACTUALLY cut spending.

And the gays, if you’re into being a full citizen.

Yeah, him and Rosanne Barr. Nothing wacko about either of them.

Not that I know much about him, but my impression is that Kanye has always been pretty pro-Kanye. He knows a good opportunity to re-grab the headlines (which have been slipping from his grasp for a number of years now) when he sees one.

For starters, they could reject Trumpism–ie, nativism and white nationalism.

Also: The notion that immigration–legal or otherwise–is the root cause of minority unemployment is unsupported by non-tendentious examination of the issue.

Kanye supports trump because trump only represents the rich and Kanye sees himself as being rich.
By the way,Kanye is bat shit crazy and does not speak for black America!

Republicans, by and large, oppose the systematic murder of more than 100,000 unborn African American children each year.

In addition to the cogent points made by @Jewbacca:

Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King were Republicans. The Klan and Jim Crow was brought to you by the Democrats.

It wasn’t until the civil rights movement became a welfare drive movement (Lyndon Johnson “great society”) that the Democrats figured out how to buy the black vote. It’s been incredibly successful at locking up the black vote for 50 years now.

The benefit programs have created a permanent underclass of Democrat voters and kept them on the plantation. It went from safety net->safety hammock->welfare trap.

I could go on, books could be written (and probably have). This is a huge topic.

But don’t get too caught up in the arguments this thread is sure to create. Take a long hard look at the neighborhoods, living conditions and opportunities for average black citizens in the USA. They tend to live in higher crime areas with failing public schools where the $/student is higher, but the results are worse. Black people have less economic oppertunity and mobility (welfare trap) and a more unstable nuclear family.

Black people have voted almost exclusively for democrats at the local/state/national level for the better part of 60 years. Correlation does not imply causation, but you can draw your own conclusions about whether being a guaranteed uniparty voting bloc taken for granted has helped the lot of black folks in America.

Also Kanye is probably the only successful person in the USA you should listen to less than Trump.

Yes, blame teacher unions for the failures of a community. And not all districts have unions and not all schools in a given district with unions are part of a union anyway. Who is to blame there? This is the myth that people buy into. There are failing schools with unions and great schools with unions. Hmmmm, guess what the real difference is.

And sure, if you judge American public schools by the worst, they look terrible, but when individual state test scores were compared to international scores, some states scored as well as the best countries while some scored as poorly as some shithole countries.

So, let’s unpack this - so Blacks have been “purchased” by Democrats through government benefits, but White people have not.

Ok - what’s your explanation for why Whites haven’t been similarly “purchased” with the same largesse?

Come on, it couldn’t have been the fact the civil rights act was signed by LBJ.

And wasn’t welfare originally for white women only?

The GOP is opposed to abortion but they don’t won’t to do anything for that child once it is born. Cuts in public education, snap programs and head start programs, believing that health care is a privilege instead of a right and cuts in student loan programs just to name a few. Oh yeah, they love the minority kids.

I’m going to disagree a bit. Many blacks started to vote D during the 30’s. FDR giving away government jobs and tax dollars began the shift. There is a lot more to it, but they voted for the party of Lincoln to the party of Jim Crow in a generation.

I think that any sensible republican would be able to help black Americans more than Trump. Obviously there are thousands (tens of thousands? Idk) issues that presidents have to deal with, but I agree that something needs to be done about inner city violence. I believe that the vast majority of the people who live in inner cities just want to live a normal life like everyone else, but it’s hard. It’s hard to live a normal life when you’re worried that your 15 year old black son is going to be killed in a drive-by for no reason, or that your 4 year old daughter is going to catch stray bullets while she’s at the playground.

I don’t doubt that racism is still a problem in some parts of the country, but I don’t think that racism is the primary obstacle overall for (edit: inner city) African Americans in 2018. It’s the lifestyle that the violent minority has forced the innocent majority into adopting. It affects schools and families greatly, which for most suburban and rural communities, are the safest and most stable environments in a child/young adult’s life.

It’s easy to identify the problem(s), but where it gets hard is figuring out a solution. Having more cops patrolling rough Chicago neighborhoods won’t do much except get more people killed. 45 officers in Chicago have died this year, and I’m guessing probably 5 or 10 times more African Americans have died in Chicago this year because of gang related crime.

Side note: SOME rappers like to brag that their city is dangerous (Chicago, Atlanta, L.A., Detroit, etc) but it’s really just embarrassing. To have innocent people (and even criminals) get killed at the rates that they do is a shame and it’s a plague. Many things make America a great country, but it’s embarrassing when you know that most of the world recognizes that we’re the most obese AND violent country on the planet. Damn. I’m making myself sad just thinking about it…

I guess we disagree on who is responsible for the upbringing, education, and welfare of a child.

Maybe, but I just think that middle class and poor families need a level playing field.
Public schools have been deprived of so much funding because the GOP wants a voucher program in most states so they can abolish public education. Even with a voucher most families can’t afford a quality education but that’s their “haves” and “have nots” grand plan. I get it. Keep em dumb and keep em poor.
I for one think an educated society is better for everyone.

Define “educated”.

Not trying to be a joker here- My belief of a good education/educated person is-

-Strong reading comprehension and the ability to make arguments succinctly.
-Strong understanding of the civics and history of the country you’re born in.
-Solid understanding of Algebra and probably Algebra 2.
-Development of a good work ethic.

There’s probably a couple others I’d throw on there if I put more though into it, but that’s what my gut tells me is a good education.

I’m sure it’s different from your definition of a good education though.
