REMAKES!

^^ yeah, it would be better to go that way than a tired old “Fight Club” like diatribe against consumerism.

Exactly, been done to death. A paranoid sci-fi film sounds far better!

Too early Beast too early! Let the people see the original first before America get their hands on it. =P

I’ll agree it was a bit long however it’s a very fast paced film so it didn’t seem too bad. Also agree it was great, with my only gripe being the silly ‘head’ scene at the beginning…

I SAW THE DEVIL SPOILER -
I mean seriously - that crowd was just hilarious and the best thing they could find to put the head in was a flimsy cardboard box lol? That whole scene just didn’t fit the rest of the movie and was obviously done to try and set the tone but wholly unneccesary, imo.

Aside from that though - beautiful and brutal! =)

SPOILER ADD ON!!!

Yes, that scene was one of the most idiotic scenes I’ve witnessed in a serious movie. KPD is not that retarded. KPD being Korean PD. I’ll agree that it may be too soon, but then again, how many people were familiar with “Let The Right One In” prior to “Let Me In”?
Well, I suppose you have a point there. Most folk who enjoy foreign films will already be on to them but the bulk of the Hollywood audience probably can’t see past the subtitles and don’t bother.

Not sure how the American film industry could handle this film though. It has a huge pair of baws whereas Let The Right One In was subtle and refreshingly unique. Devil is just, beastly lol. I wouldn’t even know where to start with the casting. Who could fit ‘Oldboy’s’ shoes?!
Gary Oldman
Danny Houston
Jeremy Irons
Jack Nicholson
Jeremy Renner

What do these guys have in common? They all have that murderous, borderline psychotic look nailed.

Gary Oldman, definitely. I actually thought of him when I posed that question. Gary Oldman and Robert Carlyle.

I think Jack’s a little too old for it to be honest. He’s quite plump and although Min-sik Choi isn’t an incredibly athletic dude he just looks nails, as well as psychotic. I think Jack is past that now - he’s a soft psychotic. Like a teddy bear gone berserker.

Jeremy I personally can’t see cause he’s always in these heroic father-figure roles in fantasy films lol.

Danny…there’s a potential I have to agree. Kinda soft too but beard him up, like in Proposition, and I can see it happening.

Renner I had to look up tbh. I’ve steered clear of Hurt Locker on advisement and can’t remember him in any other films so no idea how good an actor he is.

Ok…so there are candidates out there who have the look, and skill. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hmm…I can agree with Jack, but Jeremy…he’s played “touched” in the past. I forget the name of the film, but he portrayed a pair of very bad twins. He can pull it off.

For Danny, check out “The Warrior’s Way”. As well as Wolverine. Speaking of which, Liev Schreiber would fit in the role, too. It’s all in the eyes.

I avoided the Hurt Locker, as well. However, Jeremy Renner is also in “The Town”, as well as “Swat.”

Now…who would you choose to play the protagonist?

Another remake I wouldn’t mind: The Dirty Dozen.

Dead Ringers I think is the one you mean - where he plays a fucked up gynecologist?

Hmmm the protagonist? That’s a good question and a little bit tougher. Need someone with a good range of emotions as well as reasonably fit. I’m away to muse…

Josh Brolin would be a good one.

Oldman could play the protagonist also, actually all those guys could play either role when you think about it.

“The Old Man and the Sea”.

Hemingway’s masterpiece went to film in 1958 and was excellently portrayed by Spencer Tracy. I’d like to see it remade with today’s technology in place, although I can’t come up with an actor off the top of my head.

“Ben-Hur”

I’m on the fence with this one. The 1959 remake (from the 1925 original) was spectacular. Kind of like the “Gladiator” of its day. The remake for today would have to be perfect, or not even try.

The thing I like about the 1959 Ben Hur is the nostalgia. I remember watching it one Friday night on PBS with my ma and pa.
You know how there’s a special something about historical epics that were filmed back then.

Hmm have to rescind my nomination of Brolin actually - too old. The hero should be young for, well, obvious reasons without getting in to the movie too much.

hmm

I definitely agree, Nards. Something “warm” about old film. Like seeing a huge Renaissance painting for the first time and being swept up in the drama.

This is one reason I stated that I’m on the fence about a remake.

^ yeah, that’s a good way of explaining it too.

Sort of like watching an old Twilight Zone and a newer one. The old one gets bonus points just for being old.

Just caught this bit of info regarding The Thing

“Actual Norwegian actors were cast in the film to play the Norwegian characters,[3] and the director allowed the actors to improvise elements different to what was scripted when they felt it was appropriate, such as a scene where the characters sing a Norwegian folk song.[24][25][27] Many scenes involving characters speaking Norwegian will be subtitled,[28] and the language barrier between them and the English speaking characters is exploited to add to the film’s feeling of paranoia.”

Emphasis on the last sentence!

Ryan Gosling

Ryan Philippe

Gerard Butler (although he already did it in Law Abiding Citizen)

Surprising pick from me: Justin Timberlake. I say this with a straight face for two reasons: Black Snake Moan and Alpha Dog. Hell, I’ll even throw in Edison Force. Check them out. I think he’d be able to pull it off.

I’m also gonna nominate myself for the role.

That’s good…since the helicopter pilot should not speak any English as we see him at the start of the 1982 film.
So I think it would be cute if they show the pilot in the new movie and someone mentions to that American female lead that she shouldn’t bother trying to talk to Magnus because he doesn’t speak English.

Jurassic Part 4 has officially been greenlit…and promises to be the start of a new trilogy.
