REMAKES!

I just watched The Naked Prey last week and that would be a good one to be redone.

Zulu with Michael Caine was great and I would like to see that redone.

Sons of Katie Elder. I love a good western movie like Tombstone or Deadwood.
“4 Brothers” was a remake of “Sons of Katie Elder”. I think the last good western I saw was the “3:10 to Yuma” remake. “Seraphim Falls” with Liam Neeson and Pierce Brosnan is pretty good, but it tends to linger a bit at the end.
Maybe “4 Brothers” was based on the sons of Katie Elder but it was no remake of The Sons of Katie Elder.

I saw “3:10 to Yuma” with Christian Bale which actually was a remake. It was good.

There’s a great sci-fi action flick from 1987 called The Hidden that I heard they were remaking. That’s a good one and I think a remake would be a good idea.
The Hidden was a fantastic movie actually. I distinctly remember the steamy shag scenes, with Claudia Christian was it? Can’t remember which actress right enough. But aye, watched that quite a few times in my youth and would definitely be up for a remake of that.

Some of your statement reminds me of a literary masterpiece that I know in my heart would make an amazing film, but I fear would not be pulled off properly. I’m talking about Kafka’s “Metamorphosis” (sorry to derail the thread). The nuance in capturing the comic and tragic aspects of the human condition in that book would be difficult to capture on film without coming across kitschy.

The right director could do it, but I wouldn’t let Spielberg, Burton, or any of the horror genre directors anywhere near it. Maybe David Lynch (seeing what he did with Elephant Man)… or Cronenberg? I just want to see this film made - and done well - before I die.
I doubt this story could be made into a good film. Hollywood has an overwhelming need to explain everything. Part of what made “Metamorphosis” great was that there is no reason why he changed. He just did. In a modern setting I think the film would devolve into a retarded episode of CSI, and the character analysis would be pushed into the background.
I hadn’t even considered that, Bujo. You’re right.
I would have been fine with a bit of back-story… showing how essential Gregor was to his family’s existence - before his change occurred. But having to explain why he changed would ruin the story.

That’s the one with Kyle McLoughlin [think that’s his name] and the tiny ray guns and badass car chase right? If I’m thinking of he same movie it was awesome and a remake could be bad to the bone.
Yep…that’s the one. Great movie but I think a remake would be great too.

My picks:

Beastmaster

Flight of the Navigator

I Come In Peace

Blind Fury

I Saw The Devil

Cleopatra Jones

Commando

Penitentiary

Puppet Master

Shocker

The Island of Dr. Moreau

20,000 Leagues Under The Sea

And I’ll stop there. Just throwing some of the movies that got my attention as a child. Oh, and Police Academy.

I Saw The Devil? It only came out like last year Oo

Unless you’re thinking of a different film than the rather violent and dark korean film of the same name?

Same great movie. I am simply curious to see what Americans could do with it. My only gripe about the movie is the length. Way too long. But, still a great movie IMO.

What’s wrong with remaking Roots?? It might get today’s black youth more in touch with their history and keep them from worshipping gang bangin’ rappers who treat the N word like it’s the most versatile word in the world.

Too early Beast too early! Let the people see the original first before America get their hands on it. =P

I’ll agree it was a bit long however it’s a very fast paced film so it didn’t seem too bad. Also agree it was great, with my only gripe being the silly ‘head’ scene at the beginning…

I SAW THE DEVIL SPOILER -
I mean seriously - that crowd was just hilarious and the best thing they could find to put the head in was a flimsy cardboard box lol? That whole scene just didn’t fit the rest of the movie and was obviously done to try and set the tone but wholly unneccesary, imo.

Aside from that though - beautiful and brutal! =)

All joking aside, you do realize that it’s a saga, right? Also, from a marketing standpoint, it’d be a very tough (read: damn near impossible) attempt to get the movie into theaters, then to get the targeted audience to sit and watch it.

SPOILER ADD ON!!!

Yes, that scene was one of the most idiotic scenes I’ve witnessed in a serious movie. KPD is not that retarded. KPD being Korean PD. I’ll agree that it may be too soon, but then again, how many people were familiar with “Let The Right One In” prior to “Let Me In”?

You could do it the same way they did the original as a TV saga extravaganza. That format has been popular the past few years with all the HBO series and what not, I see a lot of people tuning in to watch the remake especially with a high profile cast.

If they could time it to coincide with Tarantino’s “Django Unchained” it would be a hit

Well, I suppose you have a point there. Most folk who enjoy foreign films will already be on to them but the bulk of the Hollywood audience probably can’t see past the subtitles and don’t bother.

Not sure how the American film industry could handle this film though. It has a huge pair of baws whereas Let The Right One In was subtle and refreshingly unique. Devil is just, beastly lol. I wouldn’t even know where to start with the casting. Who could fit ‘Oldboy’s’ shoes?!

Fright Night UK Trailer

They’re making an American/British version “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo”. I’ve seen the Swedish version, and thought it was pretty good. I felt sorry for the gals though. I guess you can’t be a woman in Sweden without being raped or beaten. The new version stars James Bond, and he’s delivered a solid performance each time. It should be good.

They’re remaking THEY LIVE!!!Q!@#$%!%!!!

““And in Reeves words, his film won’t have the satirical or political elements, but will instead be a psychological science fiction thriller that explores this guys nightmare and could even include a desperate love story, as Reeves is more drawn to the emotional side, the nightmare experience with the paranoia of Invasion Of The Body Snatchers or a Roman Polanski-style film.””

Ok…I can live with that.
