Religion Catch All

It has impacted some friends and family members and this disorder can hit any city.

I also don’t want to live in a country with unbridled violence and innocent People being murdered and beaten or raise my children in it or for them to be hated, even at their current ages of one and three years old.

I think you can understand.

Again, I am not saying religion is causing worse outcomes. Just that they are correlated, and the least religious countries fair better. Here is a video that explains a bit of the metrics I have been talking about. I have some complaints in the methodology, and I am not sure why China wasn’t on the least religious list (most of the other countries lined up with other studies though).

This video is mostly just to debunk the common claim which goes “if this nation loses it’s belief in God, it will suffer a downfall”.

Me neither. I am glad I live in a very safe country (the USA).

I’ll take your word, but statistically it unlikely. I would argue that the chances of sever impact is so low, that almost everybody should not worry about it. We should want the bad things to end. I am not about to make an argument about relative privation.

The amount of death is 32 from riots and protests. On average over this amount of time we would have 2-3 people die from vending machines falling on them. Nobody is talking about how it is the end of the nation. I guess it is only about a 1/10 the death. Do you fear death by vending machine at about 1/10 the amount of death by the riots?

At this point I don’t even think many Americans use the word happiness for life satisfaction. When I hear the buzzwords “happy” and “freedom” I cannot help but think what is being referred to is libertinism. Hence why we now often hear terms like “consenting adults”, “it’s my body”, “who am I to judge?” And “who are you to judge?”

No, I don’t, but considering I’m from NYC, which has recently had an astonishing amount of murders, and now only live an hour away from Queens, watching police cars in Manhattan on fire and assaults on police and others hits home. My own friend couldn’t get to work, and another friends wife had to leave home early. When raging, violent mobs are avoided by a close call, the fear is palpable.

Have you ever been violently attacked or swarmed by a few men? You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to, of course, and it’s not a gotcha question.

It is a risk to the country. Companies and businesses are closing their doors forever in these cities. These cities drive economies for many places and they won’t if the place becomes a wasteland. Portland is going to make Detroit look like Disney Land. Seattle isn’t far behind. LA has gotten so bad that even Joe Rogan is leaving for the stated reason that he wants his freedom back.
I am not worried about my risk, I am not going to these places. And if they come to my neighborhood I am more than ready.
But it’s happening every day to many people. How many lives need to be destroyed before we say it’s enough?
And if people feel that they can just mob-up and riot anytime they want, how long before it comes to someone’s doorstep who didn’t expect it?
And what if this were right wing violence, instead of left? Wouldn’t we be calling for it’s immediate end? Wouldn’t we be horrified?
One person was killed in Charlottesville, one and it’s practically a national holiday. We have documentaries and memorials. Where are the memorials for the 32 dead in the riots? Where are the documentaries? What about their names? Most of the dead are black and not one damn is given about their black life.
Lives and businesses are getting ruined everyday because unhinged far-left morons. And if somebody dares to defend themselves the government will come after them, not the rioters.

It’s not just the rioters, it’s complicity in these governments that’s even more alarming. Why are these governors and mayors allowing it, even helping them? The feds can be there in 24 hours, all they have to do is ask. They won’t even ask for help, they would rather let their city burn to the ground. They hate Trump so much, they would sacrafice the people of their city just to spite him.
Forgive me for not understanding, but I can’t.
So many bad things have happened in this violence, just describing it all can fill an encyclopedia.

Is it an immediate threat to me? No. But if left unchecked how long before it is? Do I really need to wait until they are at my door to give a damn?

Thanks. Great posts. I usually don’t get it involved in touchy subjects on here anymore but like I said, the topic of religion is very important to me. I actually heard about the vandalism of churches and assaults on praying Christians from Taylor Marshall, who I like listening to despite not being Catholic.

I also add this, despite being atheistic for much of my life, I say atheism is very boring.

I feel like even on just this forum, there is enough of a group to form a “we” who have said it is enough.

I don’t see a shortage of people calling for it to end. On an other thread someone posted about sniping violent rioters.

I think the problem is defining religious. The most religious nations are shithole countries with people who we wouldn’t call religious, but fanatical.

In the least religious nations, which are not shithole countries, people might still believe in God but they aren’t fanatics who base every decision in their lives on the moral standards of ancient people.

This is all I was saying. Most of my defense on that post has just been correcting strawman arguments claiming I am saying religion causes the disparity.

@pat I visited Vatican City and Hagia Sofia on my honeymoon. They were awesome.

I haven’t caught up with this thread yet but there’s a big difference between a theocratic government and a religious country. Case in point the population of the US is highly religious but a secular government. Most countries without some form of church/state separation are developing or underdeveloped countries, but that doesn’t mean there’s a real correlation between “being religious” and bad quality of life metrics.

You have to make the distinction between a religious populace and a theocratic or theocracy leaning govt.

This is why “survey studies” are essentially the graffiti of the science world. The despise them.

And the average lifespan of their governments. Governments in Africa dissolve and reappear ever couple years.

I am absolutely jealous. Those have been on my bucket list for most of my life. I may never get a chance to be inside the Hagia Sofia now.

I understand the sentiment. People are pissed. I think the best move is for the right to follow the law and demand change, while remaining peaceful. It’s the best advertising.
Wet dreaming about a .50 cal machine gun ‘solving’ the problem is understandable. Probably hyperbole, as most of those types of posts are.
Fortunately, we have an environment here where we won’t get canceled. So we can say shit we don’t mean and not get doxed, fired and lives ruined.

Right, I think visiting Hagia Sofia will be over considering what has recently taken place. I also visited a popular mosque in Ustanbul but I forgot which one it was.
