To the rescue! Rock you got to let me know what type of reggae u are you into, slow reggae i.e lovers rock, roots reggae (bob marley) dancehall reggae (beenie man, elephant man) Im gonna lay out a sample and you can let me know what tickles your fancy:

This is an example of Slow Reggae kinda in the lovers rock category

Classic lovers rock pioneer and reggae legend Beres Hammond (one of my all time favs)

Roots Reggae legend Lee Scratch Perry one of his newer songs

Some Dancehall from Beenie Man more upbeat party driven music

THIS IS THE ALLTIME SLOW JAM CLASSIC IN ALL OF REGGAE!!

Here is a classic weed tune for my stoners.
Damn man, I love all this. This morning I put these songs on my mp2 and it was amazing pace music for my jog to the gym. I’m digging the slower stuff, not the Beanie Man…let’s save him for the Reggaeton thread, k? lol

Sugar Minott is pretty dope. Burning spear, Steel Pulse, Sister Nancy, Peter Tosh, Toots and the Maytals,King Tubby, Yellowman… There’s quite a few that are really good. Also, check out Easy star All-Stars. They do some serious dub covers.
Damn Good selection Flash, I am really starting to question your whiteness.
Haha, you should see my soul and jazz collection!!.. Seriously man, I just really enjoy music. There’s music you hear and music you feel. If I can feel it, then I can apprecciate it, regardless of genre. I saw Toots a couple of years ago and Steel Pulse a couple of weekends ago at the International fest. They were awesome. Not sure if you’ve heard this, but here’s a punk band doing a reggae song. It’s actually one of my favorites-

yo Flah, good stuff for real

If you can get past hed(pe)'s trashy stuff you’ll find they have a few good reggeaesque songs that are decent…also, the band Borialis is a stretc but is close but theyre more nu metal rap.

START A SOUL THREAD!!!

I was going to but this came to mind first last night.

Dude, I fucking love HED[pe]. The song ‘Pac Bell’ gets me so fucking pumped I’m ready to peel paint of walls. Actually, the whole ‘Broke’ album is badass.

lol, Hed carried me through many wrestling tournaments. They have A LOT of great stuff but the “illuminatti” songs get annoying. I do love them to though. Jared’s a beast.

Is Bob Marley too obvious? lol

Ok cool but be clear Reggaeton is a totally different genre.

Since you dig the slow stuff here are my suggestions:

Tarrus Riley’s instant classic

Another from the same album

More from the iconic Beres Hammond

Beres Again

Some Sizzla for you

MY ALL TIME FAVORITE SIZZLA SONG.

Damn I can’t believe I’ve gone this entire thread and haven’t recommended Buju Banton

This song was actually on Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, real funky gotta love Toots and the Maytals

If you want some links for some cool albums to get started on send me a PM I’ll help you get started.

I should’ve said I fucking love the album ‘Broke’, 'cause I’ve honestly only heard one other full album and pieces of another. Don’t remember much about 'em. The lead singer looks like a big dude. Not just in shape but tall, like he’s just a big dude all around. I’m guessing that’s Jared. If you haven’t beat me to it I’ll start a soul thread by the weekend.

Holy shit some seriously knowledgeable folk in this thread. My minor contribution:

I still think Red Rat’s first album was infinitely listenable, although I’m probably far off base classifying it as reggae:

And shit, nobody’s put up some Tosh? I have this on vinyl.

My knowledge of this is remarkably minor despited the fact that I essentially lived with a Jamaican family until I was five (well, I was there from 5 in the morning until 6 at night). The dad was a classical music DJ for the CBC and all they listened too was Bach and the like.
