So I started working out (alternating resistance and HIIT six days a week) about five months ago with the goal of fat loss. So far, I’ve gone from 5’4", 190 lbs @ about 28% BF to about 155, 11.5% BF. Right now, I’m shooting to lose another 5-7 lbs before beach season, then start bulking up over fall/winter. Up until this point, I’d been using my normal whey protein as my recovery drink.
Recently, I’ve been looking further into post-workout nutrition and know that the sugar/carb/protein combo is great for recovery while trying to build muscle/increase endurance, but haven’t been able to find any solid information on the worth of commercial recovery drinks for weight loss. I can’t see all the sugar/carbs being great for fat loss, but I understand that none of those calories are likely to be stored after an intense workout. Anyone have any advice or information that might point me in the right direction as to whether I should upgrade to an actual recovery drink, or just stick with my whey shakes?
