Rebirth of the Juggernaut: Brute Force and Ignorance (Part 1)

Yeah, I definitely favor DB rows when given the chance. Only thing I don’t care for is they take twice as long as other rows, but they give me the best stretch. Cable rows aren’t bad. Never cared for chest supported: I always seem to crush my chest vs train my back.

Couple blips I wanted to get down

-I want to get back into bridging. I’ve been doing the neck harness, but I can get the neck from other angles as well. Something I can throw into the daily work.

-My in-laws are in town. My mother-in-law asked if I lost more weight since she last saw me. I’m actually up about 10lbs, but it’s amazing how that’s a GOOD thing. When you’re gaining weight, you want people to think you look thinner: when you’re losing weight, you want people to think you look bigger. It’s funny how things work.

-I’ve started including Sunbutter (sunflower seed butter) and Cashew “milk” into my diet recently. I’m upset how much I enjoy both of them. So yuppie, but sunbutter has crazy macros and tastes very rich, and the Cashew milk has a pleasant flavor, especially when mixed with Walden Farm’s chocolate syrup, and is a nice way to wind down the down. Also getting in even MORE diverse fat sources this way.

Have you both considered Flexion rows?

They do not require much weight (easy on lower back) and can be done with BB or DBs. They will destroy your back especially the erectors.

First exercise shown at the 1:00 mark.

We try all sorts of milk alternatives at my house due to an allergy. My favorite is Ripple, which is pea protein based, has awesome macros, no carbs (in the unsweetened variety).

Pea protein absolutely destroyed my intestines when I had it. “Ripple” is right, haha. My kid is the same way. Must be something in the genes. I’m up to give almond milk a try, but I consume so many almonds as it is I figured it’d be good to get in a different nut source.

Purely on a flavour basis (I assume the macros are crap) it’s oat milk for me (alpro unsweetened). Works well in coffee and tea.

I’m sure oatmilk is delicious, because oats are delicious, haha. But yeah, not at all what I’m going for. There’s always coconut milk for bulking too, but I’m not quite ready to cross into the realm of coconut. Too many conflicting reports.

Fascinating!
I haven’t experienced this, fortunately. Its amazing what some people are intolerant of. One of my boys was allergic to peanuts (seems to have gone away), so the house switched to almond butter; now my other boy is allergic to almonds so he is on peanut butter. My wife is deadly allergic to any dairy protein (butter is ok) and my little girl is intolerant, though not allergic.
Meanwhile I can eat anything.

Almonds are definitely interesting to me in that regard. I will eventually become allergic to them if I don’t rotate them OUT of the diet on occasion. I can usually sense myself becoming more and more intolerant to them as time goes on, which is a shame, because they have LOTS of good things in them compared to peanuts. And my wife and I both had a bit of exercise induced anaphylaxis recently after eating some asian food that we had already had on many other occasions. Bodies be weird.

Oh man, and what about gut biome? I lived off fast food forever and, in turn, it didn’t phase me, and now I’ve been eating so clean that fast food hits my gut like a bomb.

Sounds like reverse evolution, you’re getting worse dude! (I mean sure getting better at lifting and looking good, but fast food endurance is way more important)

Dave Tate talked about how, when he transitioned from a diet of Little Debbies and Pop Tarts to chicken and rice, he threw up everyday and couldn’t keep anything down. It’s crazy how it happens. Meanwhile, my wife had to go low-carb when she was pregnant and I got to coach her through the vision quest the first time she had a piece of cake after being stupidly low carb for months. She suddenly understood why I was so dramatic whenever I had dessert, haha.

I’ll give them a shot on my last Deload day and see how they might fit in the rotation.

@T3hPwnisher i had the same thought about dumbbell rows and yes the chest supported does crush the chest. I really like the t bar rows with the high handle bar like attachment and supinated grip feels good and you can stay more upright. Think I just talked myself into buying another one for my new location.

Jacked, stacked with firepower to match @T3hPwnisher mate

PM WORKOUT (1900)

Tabata KB swings 45lb switching hands each rep

Notes: In between rounds, I set up the gym for tomorrow’s workout. Good way to rush.

No different in any gym, so much phone scrolling. Youth is wasted on the young… or something like that.

What time are you heading to bed out of interest?
(circa 9.30pm here combined with reading books to jnr - she’s a night owl - so i’m out by 10pm, up at 5.30am)

In an ideal night, I’m getting to sleep around 2030-2100, but with company in town I’m staying up later to around 2200.

Yeah there were some characters thats for sure. Me and my buddy killing ourselves on legs probably looked kinda funny to some people too though

@bigdaddi Worse reasons to stand out, haha. I wrote a blog post a while back titled “Why Am I The Only One Breathing Hard?” that commented on how you pretty much NEVER see people exerting themselves in a public gym. No hard breathing, no being bent over at the end of a set, no red faces, etc etc. It’s like lifting in a library, haha.

30 GHRs

Notes: Wanted to make this be on the shorter side with family in town, so upped the weight and dropped the reps. Been a while since I hit this first thing in the morning: been having breakfast first typically. Hips were a little tight and I was moving slow, but heart rate got high. Had a few false starts on the SSB squats: body just plain didn’t wanna do it. Big thing is I have to fight my instincts to absolutely bury myself on this workout: it’s meant to help me recover from the BBB squats in time to do the deadlifts. Razor’s edge kinda stuff.

Went out to Texas Roadhouse last night and actually got a steak. 8oz sirloin. I’m trying to allow myself some grain fed beef on occasion. One of the big things I’m learning is portion size. 8oz is technically two servings of beef, and in my mind it’s still a snack. I used to regularly get the 16oz ribeye. I walked away from this meal satiated and it had more than enough protein in it, AND, having not had grain fed steak in so long, even a sirloin was quite flavorful. All that said, I have a 32oz grassfed ribeye tomahawk in my freezer right now and I have an occasion in mind for when I’m going to eat the whole goddamn thing, so the viking in me isn’t dead yet.

Do you find any digestive differences between grass fed and grain fed beef?

Being fed grams has to be some really lean beef.
