Rebirth of the Juggernaut: Brute Force and Ignorance (Part 1)

This is the first time I’ve heard this sentence.

@bigdaddi Thanks dude!

@dagill2 They’re the methodone of energy drinks, haha. It’s funny: I genuinely just like the taste and size of energy drinks. If these companies made a caffeine free version, I’d buy them. Instead, it’s become a caffeine arms race, and trying to find something that’s less than 300mg per can is tough. There’s only 1 flavor of Monster I actually LIKE vs tolerate, and they don’t sell it in stores anymore, so I’m going with the direct shipping option to see if that helps.

Got up at 0500 from the dog this morning. Still feeling pretty beat, so did some easy daily work with the GHRs, hypers, abs and band work. Got some meals in me and I’m picking up steam a little. Plan to hit up a conditioning workout based around dips and chins before work so I can kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Squat workout tomorrow and potentially getting my second dose of vaccine.

I’m a fan of quite a few of the Monster flavours we have over here. I only have regular access to one thats zero carbs though, which is probably my least favourite.

Ah, I suppose that is the necessary qualifier: I have never had the ones with sugar.

I also don’t touch them after having read the label. It didn’t really cross my mind the first few times I tried them that it was possible to fit 55g of sugar into one drink.

I can’t have Monster anymore after I drank a 4-pack once afternoon in highschool. I was so out of my mind I ended up running as fast as I could from school to my buddy’s house after classes (which was, like, halfway across the city) because I had the most inexplicable urge to run.

@dagill2 That’s science for you: we can find a way to put sugar in ANYTHING, haha. And here in the Americas, we’re figuring that out with corn too.

@kdjohn Reminds me of this classic

Buddy of mine used to watch that before lifting to get amped.

LUNCHTIME WORKOUT

15 minute circuit of

5 chins
4 KB snatches (alternating arms)
5 dips
6 1 armed KB swings (alternating arms)

Got through almost 14 rounds. Timer went off right before the set of swings. Finished it off. Good little conditioning workout with the remainder of my daily work thrown in and then some.

The purpose of acids in these drinks is apparently to prevent ppl from vomiting due to the sugar concentration.

Carbonation also helps

Syrups help solve the dissolving issue

Pwn mate what does your back work consist of?

I can’t get it out of my head

Same thing everyone else does: rows, chins, pulldowns and pull aparts. Just done for over a decade. But I’d say I’m unique in that I’m training the back everyday with the chins and pull aparts, and that I ALSO train it every lifting session with either chins or rows. The back seems to like volume and will soak it up like a sponge.

Also, I’m big on the mind muscle connection. Lots of folks will just rip the weights off the floor and figure, as long as it’s moving, it’s training the back. I really go to feel the contraction and squeeze, and don’t really care how much weight I’m moving.

EDIT: Actually worth considering as well that I am SO not technical in my lifting that I have to rely on my back a lot to move things. Probably plays a role.

Music to my ears mate

For some reason I keep forgetting the basics which have worked for me in the past , until I read your honey soaked words then it all comes rushing back to me

I used to do a shit ton of chins between sets on 531 for hardgainers and my back blew the fuck up for example.

I plan to raise hell with the chins on my next block.

Cheers matey

Hell yeah dude! Lot to be said about the value of pressing heavy stuff overhead off the floor. That back was EXACTLY what I had in mind when chasing a 275lb keg press.

This is another one that has breached my radar mate.

Pulling shit off the floor and putting it above your head.

THE TRUE TEST OF STRENGTH

An exercise infused with so much… manliness is always going to result in top tier gainage.

It’s so obvious yet it’s something that most, including myself, never consider.

I’ve got OHP booked in my next block. Every set will start off the floor in honour of you my man :muscle:t2:

@anna_5588 Fascinating stuff for sure.

@ChongLordUno Hell yeah dude. Sounds like it’s going to be a killer training block for sure. Pressing heavy stuff overhead from the floor will never not be cool or effective. Probably one of the single best things I ever did for myself was start including that in my training. Really have to thank Pavel there.

I used to be big on monster, and have tried/enjoyed a lot of thier sugar free flavors. The s.f. black cherry was my favorite by far.

That’s EXACTLY what I ordered, haha. ā€œUltra Blackā€. Only good sugar free flavor they have. Although I’m curious about Ultra Gold. Supposed to be pineapple flavored.

You’re going to make me start googling how I get hold of this stuff aren’t you? I’m getting pretty bored of standard Ultra White.

Ultra White exists to prove to me that I’m not actually an energy drink addict.

I dislike that flavor so much that, in times when it was the ONLY flavor available and I REALLY wanted an energy drink, I went without it.

I don’t get much joy from food any more, but I still get it from drink apparently, because that flavor robs me of it, haha. The one he’s talking about is Ultra Black vs Ultra White.

I might have to order a case or two from Amazon. But to work, not home or my missus will have a field day.
