PM WORKOUT

Weighted dips stripset
6x130lbs
3x105
4x80
5x55
5x30
6xBW

Followed immediately by 25 miniband pushdowns, then 20 standing ab wheels and 40 bodyweight reverse hypers

First time in a few weeks I didn’t have terrible forearm tendon pain on the dips. Was awesome to be able to push hard on them again.

Im assuming this is the order you did them in? Did you do a a few body weight sets to get some blood around them elbows, or you just hit it?

I did a set of 4 reps of bodyweight beforehand, as sometimes I end up straining my ribcage on a cold set of dips, but in general I don’t require much by way of warm-up. When I compete, I only ever do something like 3-4 reps of the unloaded implement for the first event and then that’s it.

AM WORKOUT (0315 Wake up)

SUPERSET circuits (chins and neck on odd sets/abs on even sets, no rest between movements)

Chins (every grip)
10x10

Neck harness 55lbs
5 sets

Standing ab wheel
5x5

Axle rows against light bands (1 minute rest between sets)
2x13
3x12

Axle shrugs against light bands
1x55

Kroc rows 115
1x19

CONDITIONING

Juarez valley hang power cleans (95lbs) and burpees
10 cleans
1 burpee
9 cleans
2 burpees
Etc until numbers reversed

40 reverse hypers
25 band pushdowns
50 band pull aparts
30 GHRs

Notes: Did all my assistance work for my deadlift day this morning, so I can just do the main and supplemental later. Since it’s so early in the morning and I intend to pull dead stop, it wasn’t viable to actually do the deadlifts. Same reason I settled on hang cleans vs full cleans. This was solid. Big thing I learned is I need to FOCUS during the axle rows. If I just go through the motions, I don’t get much out of it, but when I really try to squeeze and contract, they light up my back. Big victory on the chins: first time going through the full 10x10 without employing rest pausing. Got all my daily work knocked out as well. May get in some stone work a little later today.

Do you go to bed at an early hour or how bad is your sleep debt at this point? Is it because of work or something else?

I intentionally don’t check the clock before bed so that I don’t get in my own head over how much sleep I got, but I most likely got to sleep around 2130-2145 last night. I’m working early shifts this week (today is my last one), so have to get up early to get the training in. I get 5 days off after this, and then start 5 days of night shifts after that.

That said, I seem to not require a great amount of sleep these days. My father is the same way.

I confess I’m very jealous of these people :joy:

You might be these people: you don’t know yet. I required substantially more sleep at your age. Napping was a regular activity of mine in college.

I ā€œrequireā€ at least 8hrs in bed. Sleep quality is iffy though. I’m lucky in that school has been very light so I’ve never had to stay up past 22:00

My parents aren’t like that so I’m probably not

I definitely needed more at that age. You’re well on your way.

We recently did an experiment with myself and my better half in which I wore the Fitbit sleep monitor thingy she got for Christmas for a couple of night to compare sleep quality. It turns out the app thinks I’m getting a better nights sleep in 5.5 hours than she does in 9, and by a reasonable margin.

These are pretty small data points, but they’ve highlighted to me how small a picture we get from ā€œI get 8 hours sleepā€.

As a famous Austrian politician once said ā€œsleep fasterā€

That’s why I hedge and get 8hrs. Sleep quality has always been an issue for me, even in primary school

In what way is your sleep quality poor? Do you sleep uninterrupted but don’t feel rested or wake up a lot during the night?
