Rebirth of the Juggernaut: Brute Force and Ignorance (Part 1)

It’s weird, I sometimes find similar products from the same brand, say pickles that are chopped differently and one will have sugar and the other won’t but the shelf life is the same and… :exploding_head:

Might not be about the taste a much a having people just eat more/cravings so they sell more.

Mom just bought a bag from Costco. They are amazing.
This coincided with our family friends sending over ribs… very dangerous combination

Only for people that don’t want to get more muscular and strong. Otherwise, it’s a great combination.

Costco is where I got mine as well. Great place for goods.

Sugar in dill pickles is a sin

I’m having to go white meat for safety, too! I think I’ll start with turkeys. See if I can graduate up to pork over time (obviously not belly) without a blood pressure impact.

Disappointing about the sugary mustards. The whole benefit of mustard is it doesn’t have sugar! Come to think of it, though, I think I have to buy this stuff from Jungle Jim, which is like a giant Trader Joe; maybe it’s a specialty thing.

Doing the very same thing. Don’t forget fish. I’m discovering just how much I enjoy it. Don’t like boney stuff though.

I NEED to get to Trader Joe’s. It’s in an inconvenient part of town, but such a good place to shop.

I highly recommend barramundi, juicy and high omega 3 and protein- Costco sells it and it’s actually cheaper than tilapia, cod, and FARMED salmon filets

We’ve been killing fish!

Trader Joe’s is great. It has so much stuff you wouldn’t see elsewhere

This brings back a fun memory.
About 9 years ago we lived a mile from a GC. We walked there once, and halfway home I had to leave my wife and sprint the rest of the way home so I could have explosive diarrhea.
I don’t think we ever went back.

All through my 20s I was deemed “weird” for not having any semblance of a sweet tooth. A few years back when I pumped the brakes on my alcohol consumption in a hard way, about 2 months later I started developing a child like sweet tooth. Definitely had conditioned myself to gravitate towards the bitter due to the hoppy beers, funny how things change like that haha.

@jdm135 The potential is definitely there for that, haha. I played it safe and stayed away from the more dangerous items, despite my instincts.

@mr.v3lv3t Interesting indeed. I do wonder if a life of sucking down diet soda is part of it for me. Although I’ve always had what I deem a “meat tooth” vs a sweet tooth. I don’t crave cake, but boy do I crave a ribeye or a pot roast.

6 miles run with the Mrs. In the afternoon, and then walked the dogs in the evening (no vest). We went on a good pace on the run. The treadmill makes me lazy: I made sure to actually focus on pushing off the floor with my feet here and it made the pace much stronger.

I have barely had a beer this year and now I have come unaccustomed to that bitterness. Had a beer the other night and couldn’t finish it !! It is funny how we can condition ourself to not only get used to a flavour but also to like (or at least to pretend we do!!)

Do you care much at all about when you run in relation to your leg training?

Are you even a real, fake Australian?!

Nah: I base it entirely around when my wife’s job gives her time off for running and when our schedules match that we can do it together. Wherever that falls on my training is fine.

0300 Wake Up: Dog was rascally, but I was already up at this point. Guts were pretty upset. Think I was still experiencing the after effects of eating like an a-hole at the buffet.

Weighted vest walk: damn near an hour with the 45lb vest with the dogs. Was 39 degrees outside. Great weather.

Tabata high handle trap bar pulls with 135lbs

Breakfast

Notes: LOT of fasted work this morning. I’m drinking a Bang or Reign energy drink before those works, in the thoughts that the caffeine and alleged BCAAs will do some sort of good. Came up with the idea of the tabata high handle pulls on the way home from the walk and REALLY like how it turned out. Even superior to the Dan John front squat idea. Similar premise: it’s a movement you can just quickly “rack” when the timer is out, but a trap bar even moreso than a barbell for front squats. I’m pulling touch and go with straps, so tension is there the whole time. This absolutely nuked my quads and had my heart and lungs going at the end too. 135 was the perfect weight: seemed too light at the start and then too heavy at the end. Original plan was burpees, but hips are still a bit twitchy and this gave me an idea on if pulls are even gonna happen this weekend. I think I’ll be able to manage at this point.

Woke up hungry, despite the higher fat meal last night of two slices of peanut butter toast. Need to up the calories. I stepped on the scale before bed and saw 181, which means any weight gain has been VERY gradual. I’ve significantly increased calories but, with it, activity. I dig my approach, as I’m basically creating an environment for growth and then feeding the body, but I also need to up the calories even more to make that work. I’m already rapidly falling out of love with the things that come along with weight gain: extra dishes and trips to the bathroom. But it’s been nice to let loose at the table again, while still employing the smart food choices I’ve learned.

With all these walks and runs, I honestly think you’re getting in more steps than me at this point :joy:

Significant chance.

But I do imagine I’m doing something differently than what you are doing.

I was intrigued by this after reading the Dan John article, much like you. I agree that pulls seem like a better idea, purely for the fact they’re easy to stop and repeat quickly. Kinda wanna try it with some type of hang high pull.

I find the issue with a ballistic type movement is the eccentric. When I do this with swings, if I let the swing return naturally, I’m really not taxing myself and it’s more like downtime in the already very short window. I force the swing back into place to compensate. Not sure how well that would work with a high pull. Although I’ve done it with power cleans before and it sucked, so maybe I’m off.
