Rebirth of the Juggernaut: Brute Force and Ignorance (Part 1)

3 weeks of the 10k challenge taught me that I absolutely despise swings and will now do almost anything to avoid them.

But you are correct, they’re a fantastic grip exercise.

Doing that squat work with intentionally slow eccentric looks horrific. Standard Pwn!

@kdjohn Thanks man. This is definitely part of my “1 big set” approach to squatting whenever I need to get in and out quick and still get a lot of work done. Helpful too on the days I just plain don’t want to squat. Somehow easier psychologically compared to something more traditional.

@flappinit I really appreciate that dude. I have a few moments every once in a while where I just feel small, but otherwise have been able to appreciate being this lean. It’s a big change for me, haha.

@alex_uk And amazingly the slow eccentric wasn’t part of the initial plan, haha. My body is always willing to step in and lend a hand to make things even more challenging.

Got up at 0440 this morning. Body is a little screwed up from night shift living. That said, the past 3 days of sleeping have been some of the most restful sleep I’ve had in months. No vivid dreams or anxiety over getting to sleep: just passing out and waking up restored. Genuinely wonder if my sleep schedule was too rigid and if my body thrives on the chaos a bit, because, in truth, I haven’t had a regular sleep schedule in over a decade. Working a fixed schedule for 4 months due to COVID was alien to me.

Only one set? Up your game pwn

Went for a 5.3 mile run/walk with the Mrs.

I should note that my stretching has moved down on my priority list. Rather than my 30-45 minute daily routine I was doing, I’ve just been hitting some key stretches whenever I remember to do so so that I can maintain some of the flexibility I’ve worked on.

Been experimenting with cold brew coffee as an energy drink alternative. Been getting in black. It’s not awful, but also not something I’d go out of my way to drink. I may do something like every other day switch between energy drinks and the coffees.

Never tried cold brew and I’m a big fan of coffee I’ll have to give it a go, assuming you’re not heating it post brew?

Why the trial? Should in theory be better for you, but since you’re a fairly clean living sorta guy I’m sure you won’t notice much in the way of benefits.

Yeah, I’m just drinking it cold. I pour it out of the can into a glass, since the instructions said to do that, but I don’t know if that matters.

I had some less than stellar health markers recently that I’m trying to improve, and this is just an unhealthy habit I have that I can shed. I know it’s less an addiction and more something that brings me joy, as I’ve turned down chances to drink energy drinks and gone without the caffeine because I couldn’t get the flavor I like, but much like the ribeyes, this needs to become more a treat and less a staple.

What brand did you wind up going with? Curious if I’ve ever crossed paths with it.

If it’s something you care to stick with, it’s really easy and probably more cost effective as a DIY venture. As a coffee drinker, I’ve tried all sorts of the canned products as a grab-n-go solution, but they never stack up to the home made stuff.

I bought 3 different ones at a gas station. One was Starbucks, one was a company called Rise, and I’m not sure what the third is. Haven’t had it yet. The first 2 tasted about the same.

Taste doesn’t bother me much, but what’s been the most unsatisfying is how little fluid it actually is. I like the amount contained in an energy drink, whereas the coffees have all been pretty slim. Suddenly, it’s just gone, haha.

I brewed my own last night (was a first inspired by reading your journal) - cold brew as opposed to just ice coffee.

I didn’t have the right grind on my coffee (too fine) but I adjusted the time - about 9/10 hours not 12. Was smooth - a nice drink, also then heated and put milk in, also good.

Have you tried it in warm milk with sugar? My granny says it’s the best

Haha yeah, I totally get that. The price to portion ratio is 100% in favor of energy drinks, and for me the carbonation means it’s slower to get down too.

What is wrong with just coffee and espressi?

That’s what I am going for. It’s why I am keeping it black.

Sounds like you adopted her approach!

Fizzy cold brew coffee?!

No I meant instead of cold brew. Like the regular hot stuff.

I don’t care for hot beverages.

Coldbrew is nice and cool and has a strong coffee flavor. If Starbucks did it correctly then it’s also smooth.

I’m like T3hPwnisher- I don’t like hot drinks. I will make my coffee and then wait for it to become lukewarm before I start drinking it.

Notes: 3:45 between heavy pulls, 2:00 between giant sets. Stopped wimping out on the Max Effort work and went back to getting in 3-4 heavy pulls like I’ve supposed to have been doing. 725 was really grindy, as shown in the video, so took it down to 700 and pulled an even grindier rep on the final pull of 700. Wish I got that one on video. Cut the giant set a little short because I had a function to get to. Skipped the post workout meal to make some room for food truck mexican food at the function. Speaking of, nutrition has been crazy since Friday: been eating out for the majority of the meals. I’m still a total diet queen and have kept things as close to on the menu as possible, but it most likely means I’ve been on the low side for protein. Will give myself a few days to even out and see what happens.

Been in a real 90s mood the past few months, hence the Nirvana.
