Rebirth of the Juggernaut: Brute Force and Ignorance (Part 1)

Gotta wait till the kid is in college. Just not selfish enough to put my family through bodybuilding prep. They already have to deal with enough of my shenanigans. But maybe my new adventure will be competing at 181.

All the other 181s will be like ā€œthat dude is in my weight class? wtfā€.

You’ll end up there by accident if you keep going, then you’ll accidently turn orange!

Even worse for them, there’s no lower weight classes in strongman to escape his wrath :joy:

@alex_uk sounds like when my dad drank too much Tang as a kid, haha.

@anna_5588 there’s actually a 175 class in another fed, and technical a 165 and I think a 148 class. They just tend to be lowly populated. Although same for 181, haha.

Well, I guess we’ll know what happens when theres a sudden influx into the 175 class :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

You stay the hell out of my weight class!

Is bodybuilding something you think you’d actually pursue given the right circumstances?

I am not opposed to it, just as another challenge. I feel like I have the necessary skillset as far as enduring the diet goes, although genetic structures aren’t great for it.

On that note, meant to note that the liquid egg whites mixed in with the food yesterday worked out well enough. Didn’t take away from the meal if nothing else.

About to head off and do my first workout in about a week after an unplanned deload due to schedule/life stuff, but wanted to get some thoughts out of my head beforehand because I tend to forget these things when I’m logging my workouts.

-The greens supplement I’m using: I still haven’t mixed it with a shake yet, because quite honestly I’m worried about it ruining a shaker bottle, but as far as mixing it in with my food goes, the first bite is always the roughest because I still haven’t calibrated my expectations as to what it’s supposed to taste like. It’s just sorta gritty and earthy. However, what’s weird is that, after 2 or 3 bites, it’s like my tongue loses the ability to taste it, as though I’m tasting THROUGH it. After that point, the food I’m eating is quite palatable. Ultimately I’m ruling it as viable. Spices also seem to do the trick as far as creating a flavor that can power through the greens, and I intend to mix it in with some salsa at some point so that the colors make sense. Yesterday, though, I added WAY too much Frank’s red hot to my food.

-The drinkable egg whites are money. I keep adding them to more stuff. I’m a fan of mixing it with equal parts fairlife milk to basically make a higher protein/lower carb milk. Mixed it in with some pre-workout cereal and it was delicious.

-I’m thinking of experimenting a bit with my pre-workout nutrition and only using carbs on my lower body days and instead going for a high fat/protein meal on my upper body days. I’m thinking of mixing together some almond butter, PB fit and drinkable egg whites. I imagine just whipping them in a bowl and eating it with a spoon. I hear people can blend but butters into shakes, but I hate how labor intensive the blender is as far as assembly and washing.

-My wife is going to start going to work 3 days a week now. I’m going to make the most of the time we DON’T have together by extending training sessions on those days and working some running back into the rotation to start prepping for my race in November.

This would be a good place to put in the greens powder

Definitely one of many viable places. Right now I am excluding it from my morning and pre-workout meals. If nothing else, I want to reduce the risk of vomiting the product out in a workout and having to use it again in the same day, haha.

I honestly don’t understand what people find so objectionable about the taste of greens supplement
Then again, I also love the taste of raw organ meats and fish guts so maybe my taste buds are just different?

You and I are absolutely on opposite ends of the palatability spectrum. I can down just about anything put in front of me, but what I find enjoyable tends to be high fats. The greens aren’t bad by any stretch, but not something I would choose to eat if given the choice.

I wish Fairlife wasn’t so expensive here. We get it for my wife because she’d lactose intolerant and frequently undereats protein, but the amount of milk I drink would drive us out of our house if I drank it too.

@kdjohn I could definitely see it getting expensive if consumed as a primary beverage. I only ever use it for mixing supplements. Wonder if you could do like I’m doing with the egg whites, and mix fairlife with regular milk to bring up the quality of the milk while not draining the Fairlife supply as quick.

AM WORKOUT

MAX EFFORT

(6) Mat Pulls
5x135
5x225
3x315
1x405
1x495
1x585
1x640
1x650

GIANT SETS (dead-row-chin-neck)

(2) deficit 2 second pause deadlifts 315
3x9

T-bar row 150
3x11

NG chins (various grips)
2x8
1x7

Neck harness 45lbs
3x24

Interval hang power cleans (20 seconds on/10 seconds off)
8 rounds with 95lbs

Notes: 3:45 between heavy pulls. 2:00 between giant sets. 3:00 before the cleans. I’m not setting any weight PRs at the moment, but they’re PRs by bodyweight. Hitting such heavy pulls at such low bodyweight is very reassuring that everything is remaining on point. Belt is fitting better too: I’m wearing it one set earlier than usual to give it a chance to form around the body a bit better.

The interval cleans are something I’m wanting to add to my training: end the day with a short conditioning exercise. I figure if I can keep it short, simple and brutal, I’ll be inclined to do it. Have to keep it light too, since it’s at the end of the day. 95lbs was an ego blow, but the absolute right call based on how the day went. As awful as those cleans looked, that’s actually a start improvement for my flexibility and mobility. On that note, I need to get back into that program: I’ve slacked while I had company over. Still did some very basic stretching, but not quite as rigorous.

My groin and abductor continue to be annoying, but they don’t seem to impact deads, which is a positive.

More photos. I’ve finally managed to mostly eliminate my love handles, which are always a pain. I took one of those bodybuilding side photos that makes me look super skinny which also showcases just how much my obliques stick out, haha.

Forum is doing all kinds of frustrating witchcraft right so I can’t quote, but:

Mixing the Fairlife with regular milk is a good idea.

Those power clean intervals sound awful.

You’re more of a resemblance of Superman than Juggernaut at this point. Great work on the diet.

Are you still training your kid(s) in martial arts? How is that going?

Jesus… eat up, Americans! It’s strongman, not relative to your bodyweight strongman, haha.
As a comparison, we only have two weight classes over here. U105 kg (light weigth) and 105+ kg (heavy weight). Plus you don’t even get use lighter weights when you’re in the u105 category, just an additional separate placing (17th over all and 5th in the u105 kg division, for example) and then a separate championship finale.

Edit: That wasn’t completely correct. The third league also features a u90 kg division.

That’s what I thought!

Looking very jacked, dude.

My first comment when bodybuilding was being discussed was going to be that you need to not train your obliques ever again, because they’re huge, haha. Not love handles either - I knew that when I saw deep ab cuts but the side picture is proof. They’re just big as shit. Probably gotta thank strongman for that one.
