Notes: Got really excited at the idea of doing 100 reps of 225 while I was driving so decided to just scrap the max effort work and give it a go. Tried in the morning and the garage was so cold while wearing shorts that my left hamstring just locked up, and when I tried to go back after 40 reps, I couldn’t reach the bar. Let it sit for 4 hours and then came back with the sweats on. Much better. Rest paused the first additional reps after 41 to make 50, then took structured 1 minute rests to take care of the rest. Got the whole affair done right at 14:30, so I suppose that’s the standard to beat now.
After this was done, I laid on my back until my wife pulled in the garage (which was only a few minutes later), then laid on the couch while my back kept locking and unlocking, and then stumbled to the school to get my kid, the whole time thinking “try to not look so drunk”, so that was fun.
Hopefully ya’ll appreciate that I took the time to back out my car to take video of this attempt. But still didn’t open the garage to improve lighting. Gotta save that for the real good stuff.
@j4gga2 I am actually thinking of posting this as a challenge on the BSL sub-forum once I am off 12s. I think it’d be not too hard if you pace yourself, but the real experience should be blowing out on the first set and then trying not to drown for the rest of the workout.
You’re such an inspiration Pwn, I really dig all the stupid things you do every now and then.
I’m having a Max day… F*ck it I’ll much rather do 100 reps of something.
How long before 315x100? I’m trying to deload this week and this might be the best way to destroy myself before the week.
EDIT: Just saw that you attempted it in the morning first and locked up. That makes this even more special because anyone who does high rep shit knows that ridiculous feeling of tearing when you go back to the bar for the second set. Good on you for doing it again later in the same day man!
At this point I would be about ready to just buy you the same spotlight off of Amazon, that I got (if you weren’t living in the US). It was like 30 € and works like a charm.
@mortdk Thanks man. My training is really gravitating towards the things I feel like doing rather than the things I’m “supposed” to be doing at this point. I think I’m allowing myself that, haha.
@oldbeancam Much appreciated dude. I was curious if anyone would think anything about it being 140 reps in a single day, haha. There was enough disappointment after that first attempt to compel me to come back, and leaving the barbell loaded made it even more compelling.
I think I’ll attempt to make this a little quicker before I attempt 315. I’m certain I could shave those 1 minute rests down a touch, and I’d really like to see that first set get to 50 reps unbroken.
@Koestrizer I’m sure it does work, but it’s not an absence of a solution that prevents me from having better lighting. Like I wrote: I already have a solution: opening the garage door. I just don’t do it. Improving the lighting in my garage so I can see myself lift weights better pretty much goes against I am, haha.
@dagill2 Hah! Yeah, that or a glowing exposed rod of uranium.
How about improving it so we can see you lift weights better?
Actually just came to thank you for your timely blog post. “The body as the weakest link” is something for me to think on, whereas the rest will just be used as ammo to force myself through tomorrows planned session.
This is where solipsism comes into play, haha. But happy to hear the blog landed well. I’m sure the body will feel that way after enough of those 50 reppers, haha.
