So to clarify: 2 days of barbell lifting, plus 2 days of calisthenics? More or less the plan, as it happens, but clarification is always better.
Yeah. Could work in a pinch, as long as you push the bodyweight stuff hard. You would be replacing the bench and back days.
Thank you
Yes I am acutely aware of this, and Iām not quite that old, but pretty sure I used both weiders bulk and 90 protein back in the day !! I donāt mind the complications in terms of nutritional supplements or even new equipment. Hell I am often duped myself into trying a new supplement even though I know deep down that steak and eggs would be better !! Itās the over complication of the training that I find really frustrating. How any kid at 16 starting out today has any idea what to do is beyond me. I get that telling people its simple and that everything works if you are consistent and work hard isnāt sexy and doesnāt sell books or programs. But it is a lot simpler and there would be a lot more kids getting solid results rather than spinning their wheels on some new fancy program whilst spending more time taking selfies than progressing.
Anyway rant over I am going to get back in my box now. Bye.
LUNCHTIME WORKOUT
Swiss bar incline bench 240
3x10
Axle bench press 276
3x10
Close grip axle bench press 236
2x10
1x8
Dips
1x36
2x24
Standing ab wheel between sets of benching (1x8, 7x7)
Notes: 3:45 between benching, 2:00 between dips. Iām experiencing how this training program worked again, which is awesome. Progress where I can while cutting the rest periods, then ramp them up and see big spikes and start it all over again. The incline benching is finally starting to feel heavy in my hands, which is a good sign. This may be how we execute it for quite a while.
Social media is a poison, especially for youth. Iād just as soon give a kid a copy of 5/3/1 Forever and wish them luck.
It is a poison but it isnāt going away anytime soon. There is the positive side, which through awareness is increasing the amount of people who now go to a gym to train. Hell is seems like here gyms are opening up everywhere at about the same pace that old school pubs / bars are closing down. If having people take selfies whilst they preacher curl and chat with their mates keeps my gym membership price low whilst funding new equipment for the gym then I am OK with that. As long as they donāt start doing it in the squat racks !!
As a home gymer, I would just as soon they all go away, haha.
You need to get out there and make some friends. LOL
Man, I already have 2. I donāt wanna get overwhelmed.
Looks like you have me covered you social butterfly you.
Yeah and that makes total sense. It doesnāt matter whatās happening to your assistance work if your main work is improving.
What I find though is that when I incorporate back down sets after hitting a top set for max reps is that my progress on my top sets starts stalling and I start losing reps. The weight just feels heavy and awful. Iāve been hitting a number of PRs the last year by simply removing back down sets on main movements and replacing with bodyweight dips, light smith machine BTN press, push-ups etc.
Are you sure? I think the 5/3/1 forum is the home of the most confused people on this site.
Well, maybe 2nd most confused group since CT created the neurotypes.
I completely get Jimās attitude on that forum: literally EVERYTHING is spelled out in the books, but people refuse to read them. And then, in a weird effort to attempt to save time, rather than spend an hour reading a book, they post a question about something IN the book and then wait days for someone who actually read the book to answer that question.
And at first I was like āWhy would you spend $40 on a book and not read it?ā, but apparently some scum took the time to span and upload 5/3/1 Forever so now itās leaked, people are pirating it, and, in turn, NOT reading it.
My heart goes out to Jim.
Even if itās not completely spelled out in the books, if you understood his principles in training and had a little common sense, youād be able to manage
I read the original and then got Beyond as a gift. I was able to figure out most of the stuff he put out after the original by just reading his forum. FSL, SSL, BBB - it was all free information.
The only confusion I ever had was the names of his templates. Iāve learned that they are song titles but I still donāt understand it because Iāve never heard a single one of them. And donāt bother sharing them. Iām not interested.
Folks seem to get hung up on the names of programs, and itās interesting to me. Dante named DoggCrapp as a joke, and it still works well. Joe DeFrancoās Westside for Skinny Bastards work for fat bastards as well. But Iāve legit known dudes who will refuse to do a program because of itās name.
Jimās approach made sense to me. No different than just making it 5/3/1 program #46.
Glock is one of the leading manufacturers of guns and just number them. The last one I bought was the Glock 42. It was the 42nd model they produced. Itās a .380 caliber. The 43 is the same gun in 9mm. The 44 hasnāt been released but Iāll be disappointed if it isnāt a 44 cal.
Oh yeah: I have a 36 from Glock, but I also always confuse the 17 for the 19, whereas Iāve never confused the Colt Python for the Anaconda, or the Ruger Redhawk for the Ruger Super Alaskan Redhawk, haha.
I guess the names are more fun but you donāt need flash if the product is good.
My dad has a Beowulf 50 cal AR made by Alexander Arms. Itās identical to a traditional .223 AR in every way except for the bullet. The round even has a .223 primer. The gun was designed to let you swap the upper receiver with a .223.
I love that itās called Beowulf.
