Which has greater value?
The stories were definitely cooler in B.C.
Of course, none of it matters, lol.
Before Crutches/After Damage?
Being the comic nerd, I would think āBefore Crisisā for BC.
No training update in particular. Connective tissue is feeling decent. Weighed myself this morning and was 202.2 after an energy drink and a protein bar. Traditionally, this is the bodyweight where I am my strongest. Iām leaner at it than usual, which bodes well. After this comp, I wanna keep riding out the weight gain. I think dialing down the running volume should create something of a volume vacuum and allow some super compensation to occur briefly, and then I can ride that to more lifting or conditioning volume.
Yo. Do you mind telling me about your experience as a strongman? I am curious
Man I wish I could say that. I put on a pair of work pants yesterday and in the legs and ar$e I was really pushing the boundaries of what modern fabrics can do !!
@tlgains What, in particular, are you interested in about strongman?
@simo74 Winter can be a brutal reminder to me as I transition from shorts to jeans, but so far things are still loose. I can see the abs have gotten blurry, but it also means my lats look bigger, haha.
I know when I start to get a bit sloppy because getting my socks on in the morning becomes more challenging !! LOL
Pro-tip: put them on at night before you go to sleep while your body is all warmed up and limber, and then youāll wake up with socks on.
Mate you made me grin inanely with that comment. You do realise how warm it is here most if the year !! If I wore socks at night I would likely overheat!!
This is why I always sleep with a fan on, even in the winter.
I guess I could crank the AC up !! Or maybe I should just wear thongs (flip flops) all year round and ditch the socks
Thank you for clarifying this.
Yer I get a lot of comments on here from the non Aussies when I use the phrase !!
I actually had a strongman question too. So far from the implements I have seen, there seems to be a lot. So how do you prep for a comp that is using an implement you donāt have access to. Just try to simulate it as best as possible in training or what? Iāve messed around with stones I have had before and just from the impression I got from those it seemed like getting good at lifting something awkward kind of requires you to just lift that particular thing a lot.
I no joke did that for a full calendar year when I moved from North Dakota to California, just because I could. Shorts too, haha.
@cstan097 Showing up strong is always a good strategy, and has historically worked for many trainees. Implement practice is cool, and if you can have it, you should, but otherwise, just come in strong and determined. Iām still encountering implements in shows where the first time I see them is AT the show, and I just go for it. Iāve even beaten folks that got to train with the implements. Hell, my best event is car deadlifts, and I donāt have a frame for it, haha.
Thatās awesome to hear. I have always wanted to try it but I dont think there are any strongman gyms where Iām at and even just the stone molds I got were expensive and I think those are some of the cheaper implements. Not sure.
Iām training out of my garage. Only time I see a strongman gym is when I compete in one. Buddy of mine has a Spartan outdoor gym with squat stands, farmers handles and kegs and has done a few comps.
You have to be ok with looking stupid, but thatās this sport. Specialization is for powerlifters, haha.
Just improvise, if you donāt have stone moulds, try a really heavy sand bag or a big natrual stone out of the ground.
