Rebirth of the Juggernaut: Brute Force and Ignorance (Part 1)

Forearms or face !!

@simo74 Traps and shoulders primarily. Never got them in my forearms, or at least, not as much as I could tell.

PM WORKOUT

Axle bench press 301
2x10
1x6

Close grip axle bench 261
1x9
1x8
1x6

Swiss bar incline press 215
1x10
1x8
1x7

Dips
1x36
2x26

Sets of standing ab wheel between benching (2x5, sets of 4 for the rest)

50 pull ups over the course of the workout

Notes: 2:45 between sets. Travel still taking its toll, but I felt strong here. The bar weight felt very light for the flat benching, but on the 4th rep of the final set my pec cramped pretty good. Started including some pull ups in, just to sneak in some back work.

Boredom is started to manifest as aggression and restlessness. Knowing that the move is coming up quick and I’ll be experiencing some forced downtime is probably part of that.

Damn, man. Can’t deny the success of the Deep Water approach to your pressing. I’m jealous that your joints hold up to that.

Wait… That’s a thing. Is it like bruising?

@Frank_C Thanks man. It’s really been a solid protocol on the bench. I’ve learned through DoggCrapp and this that my bench really seems to respond well to a ā€œbodybuildingā€ approach. The axle goes a long way towards the joints too. I know my elbows were screaming back in the day when I tried this with a barbell.

@j4gga2 Not like bruising. It’s more like the sudden appearance of freckles. After a particularly intense workout, my upperback/traps/shoulders and upperchest will be covered in little red dots. Seated zercher axle good mornings were the absolute most effective in that regard. First time I did them, I took off my shirt and it looked like I was wearing a blotchy red sweater.

Interesting. Also brutal :joy:. I’m guessing it’s from the blood pressure?

Yeah. Similar to how guys get nose bleeds. Only happens when I really push the reps to failure on a heavy weight.

I think some are prone to it more than others as well. I’ve never experienced it and have had some really brutal sessions. I also don’t bruise easily. I’ve gotta get hit really hard to bruise. I’ve never had a bloody nose either.

Yeah, I never bruise as well. My skin cuts open easily, but it’s a rare situation when I bruise. My wife and I once spent much longer than we should have examining what appeared to be discoloration of the skin that we eventually realized was a bruise, haha.

No nosebleeds either.

I’m pretty lucky in that I just don’t break. Never broken a bone, never had a nosebleed, never really bruise, almost never get ill, I seem to be pretty indestructible. Like wolverine, but without the muscle mass or questionable facial hair.

I used to clarify that I had never broken one of my own, whenever asked the question, haha.

Broken my radius, ulna, and humerus on my left arm, my thumb and my radius on my right arm, my metacarpal on my left hand 3 times (stop punching like an idiot, flap) cracked a rib, dislocated both shoulders and my sternoclavicular joint, and broke my foot and a couple toes. I think I was a bird in a past life and my skeleton never changed during the transition to human.

Yer like little pin pricks of blood at the surface of the skin. I get them in my forearms when I do heavy amrap deadlifts. Must be squeezing that bar HARD!!!

@flappinit Something leads me to believe you might also have had experiences that put you in situations where those sort of breaks happen too, haha.

@simo74 Could very well be. Since I always use straps, definitely a non-issue, and most likely why the tension is on the traps.

PM WORKOUT

GIANT SETS (squat-jump-reverse hyper)

Buffalo Bar Squat
8xBar
8x140
8x230
8x320
7+1x410
8x320

Box jumps
6x5

Reverse hyper 340
6x10

Notes: 3:45 between sets. Feeling much stronger. Really pushed hydration today, since I was cramping so much, and I think it helped. I may have actually had that 8th rep on the topset, but considering how beat up I’ve been, it seemed like the smarter move to hold back. Interesting enough, I realized that, while my groin was hurting, my knee felt good, and now my groin feels better and my knee hurts. I’m thinking that it’s a question of foot angle.

If by ā€œhave had experiencesā€ you mean ā€œhave spent a large portion of your life being a reckless idiotā€, then, I mean, maybe…

Wow! You give me a run for my money! Here’s my list…

  1. Middle finger bone in right hand. Don’t know what it’s called
  2. Boxers fracture pinky part of hand left side.
  3. Destroyed wrist multiple bones, surgery, pins, and 16 weeks in a cast. Right side
  4. Left foot above the big toe
  5. Left big toe. Compound fracture and bone popped through my toenail.
  6. Rib on right side. Gymnastics ring hit me in the rib
  7. Nose. Basketball to the face
  8. Nose. Teaching a backflip and got punched with the arm swing
  9. Tailbone. Ice hockey check
  10. Tailbone. Trampoline fail

I know that one! Don’t punch immovable objects.

If we’re playing Tommy Topper then… (Not that I’m the winner; I just want to participate).

  • fractured left ulna & radius
  • fractured right hand
  • fractured right fibula
  • subluxed both shoulders, right one surgically repaired
  • fractured left ankle (talus bone)
  • subluxed both patellas, left one surgically repaired
  • surgically repaired left torn hip labrum (right one is currently torn)
  • and the newest, subluxed right biceps tendon and had surgery
  • I forgot one - this one was weird. My left foot/ankle went into the spokes of the rear wheel of a bike while riding tandem with my brother. It chewed off my skin. It looked white with red dots right after. It failed to heal, and the skin turned black. I had a skin graft eventually.

I think I’d prefer broken bones over all these soft tissue injuries.

Broken tailbone? Yikes…that sounds awful

Notes: 3:45 between heavy press, 2:00 between giant sets. Pleased with that PR. Wanted more, but I came into this a little hurt. Super dehydrated for some reason. Feet keep cramping: weird. I’ve been pushing calories a bit these past few days to recover from traveling and prep for moving. Cheat meal was the $5 nacho box from taco bell.
