I make mine with liquid egg whites and it seems OK. It’s obviously not as tasty, but egg whites are essentially straight protein at 5 kcal per gram of protein, which is as good as it gets.
It is kinda sweet and tastes a bit like mild breakfast syrup. If you were to compare it to real maple syrup you would be sorely let down. This is NOT Sunday morning cheat French toast BUT it is tasty, lower cal, and easy to fit into a fat cutting diet plan. I cant say as much for full fat French toast with maple syrup which would easily hit the 1500 calorie area, or more.
I mean, sometimes I eat Halo Top too. Is it Ben and Jerrys with chocolate covered potato chips in it? Nope, but it’s a nice treat that doesn’t crush cals. There is room for everything and with this French toast recipe I can fit it in every-single-day if I want to. Do that with regular French toast.
Makes sense. Small sacrifice for large reward (seems a common theme with Greg). I’ll share one of my favorite diet treats.

These are IMO as good as mint chip ice cream. The down side is they are a bit over a dollar each. Not too bad, but they do add up.
This is the KEY, brother. People ask this all the time with my recipes – is it as good as the real thing? Well, no. Of course not!
But it’s pretty damn close…and the calories are SO much lower, macros are SO much better, and it’s SO much more filling. I mean, I got to like 8% BF eating a gargantuan punch bowl of ice cream every night. To me, it tastes 80% as good as Ben & Jerry’s.
I had a bunch of family over last week and made them my protein cheesecake. It was a hit! They all loved it. They didn’t even know it was ‘diet food.’
I LOVE these. The wife has them almost every day. I used to be addicted. The cost is what made me stop. That said, these days I get more bang for my buck with the protein ice cream, which fills me up more. The convenience of Yassos is great though.
Man, I absolutely love the sugar-free maple syrup. I think it’s delicious.
That looks unbelievable. Is the Arnold bread worth the extra cals? 120 is a bit high per slice. You can find some as low as 40.

Im just using whatever bread we have and make it fit. I was using BJs brand (Wellesley Farms) “Soft Wheat” before this and I got to eat 6 slices but they were smaller. The Arnold pieces are pretty big and pretty damn dense. I would say I was equally as full as the previous bread. We have the Arnold wheat as well at the same cals per slice but it has more sugar in it. If I ate the bread with 40 cals I would need 12 slices to get my cals in!
Also I nuke 1/2 cup of blueberries, to break them down, with a little Splenda and then I mix that with the syrup to make blueberry syrup.
This is the smaller bread @ 55 cals per slice. But they are airy and about 2/3 the size of the Arnold.
I can’t do fake sugars, does anyone else get headaches when you use them? Maybe I’d get used to it eventually
Oh man, no I do not. I feel for you. Fake sugars are like my fourth macro. They make dieting so easy.
You’re making me hungry!!! I typically prefer more food at low calories – it seems to trick my mind into thinking I’m eating more, even if the higher-calorie foods are actually just as satiating. It’s kind of like eating out of a smaller dish (though I like big dishes, lol).
Here’s what the pancake looked like (made with 4 slices of wheat bread). I topped it with Greek yogurt, SF maple syrup & a few blueberries. It was so delicious – though, like I said, not as filling as I hoped. Look at its size! I’ll definitely give it another shot.
That thing’s a beast. For his pancakes I was expecting magic and then he’s like “throw the bread in the blender with the egg whites”. Ha! I love clever laziness. I’m all for less clean up so I opted to order a high protein pancake mix that will work. Just mix with water. Hasn’t arrived yet. I hate cleaning the Ninja blender.
Yeah, cleaning the Ninja is a major pain. Is that Birchbenders? Those are good, was doing them for a while – macros aren’t as good as making it yourself, obviously.
After watching this video, I decided to quit caffeine.
The video provided the final push, but the decision was a long time coming. I’ve flirted with quitting for a while now – especially since I learned I was going to be a dad.
I’ve been addicted to caffeine for 10+ years. My consumption was well over the line. I was that guy guzzling coffee all day.
I’ve been on only decaf coffee since Monday. I haven’t had the same energy as usual, but anxiety has also been much lower. I’ll phase out decaf eventually, too.
Anyone else quit caffeine?
Never. I will mourn for you. But, I would rather die than deal with most of the dietary decisions I’ve been seeing here. For the record, I have no ill effects when abstaining from coffee or caffeine, and note that it has positive physical effects. Decaf is straight up poison though.
I start every day with 2-3 cups. For every anti-caffeine video/article you can find a corresponding positive one. It contains polyphenols, increases insulin sensitivity, studies show it may have a positive effect against dementia and Alzheimer’s. The list goes on and on. I wouldn’t recommend drinking a pot a day but in moderation it is fine. Most things are fine in moderation.
Ironically if I dont lose the fat off of my body that is where I will quickly end up.
What kind of ice cream?
This is on my Watch Later list. I def drink too much coffee and I feel AH ZERO effect from it. If I get a high caffeine drink from dunkin or sbux I feel those but thats usually around 350mg caffeine. I can drink drip coffee before bed with no effect.
