Wow, 2500 posts. It’s been quite a journey in the past 13 months. Thanks to everyone who has participated! I’m grateful for you guys.
In case you need motivation to train today:
My wife has been volunteering at a local food pantry. Today, she was there with a bunch of middle-aged dudes. They received a big shipment with heavy boxes, but all the guys were too out of shape or worried about their backs to unload the boxes.
She’s 5-3, 100 pounds, and unloaded the boxes herself. That’s the state of most men today.
I was planning to rest today. After she told me that, I got so fired up to lift. I refuse to ever be that guy!
Recently @dextermorgan, myself and some others were discussing how much muscle is “too much” to the everyday person. As much as I want to add mass, I have no desire to ever look freaky.
I’ve been watching 100 Humans on Netflix – awesome show, highly recommend – and they used this example to illustrate a guy having what’s viewed as a unanimously attractive body.
I’d say if he’s 6 feet tall, he’s probably like 205 lbs at 8% BF. Pretty big, actually.
His chest/shoulders look weird. Like unattractive weird. But, I thought the guy in the Applegate commercial looked about right, not too ripped or anything but with reasonable mass and proportions. Of course, it would take an amputation to get me anywhere near 200 lbs at 6’-0.
I wonder if he looks like that year round or if that’s his “photo-shoot-week” body? Definitely looks good and remotely attainable.
That guy was massive though, right? I think most people would say that’s too big.
I’d guess he doesn’t maintain that year-round, but I don’t think it’s crazy to think someone could. Not outlandish by any means, though his chest is gigantic.
350lbs at 6"-2 is pretty huge, even at a Strongman contest.
What are your stats right now, brother? How’s your training going?
I’m 6’-0, 280 lbs (give or take). All the gyms are closed here, so didn’t train this week. Maybe I can hit some pullups without a gym, but that’s about it. I was posting to a log in the Over 35 section. It was coming along, but I’m not a Bodybuilder. Just an old strength competitor.
Man I haven’t worked out in about 3 weeks, have been eating half of what I normally eat and sleeping only 5-6 hours for some reason. Got tested for Corona today. Should get results back tomorrow.
Man, that’s pretty weird. I really hope you’re OK, brother. Keep us posted. I’d say just be sure to consume lots of protein or even add some BCAAs for this strange training-free time.
Could be a good time for some bodyweight stuff like push-ups, air squats, abs, etc. Good to change into that modality sometimes just for overall functionality anyway.
I need to find a good no-gym routine. Do you or @hardartery know of any?
I’ve heard MAPS Anywhere by Mind Pump (my favorite podcast) is about as good as it gets. However, that costs money.
I’d put together my own program or follow a free one. Lately I’ve been watching a bunch of at-home workouts from amateur BB guys on YouTube. How To Beast is one guy I follow who put something together, and he offered it as a PDF for free. I’m sure they’ll remove the link, but Google “How to Beast Quarantine Workout.”
I think you need dumbbells for that one. Some other YouTube guys – like Rob Lipsett and Merijn – had workouts with just bands and bodyweight.
You have exactly what David (How to Beast) has in his video. I bet you’d like his program. He usually does most BB stuff with some heavy lifting mixed in.
Checking it out now! Thanks
I was looking at those DB’s in the local equivalent to Costco. The equivalent of $300 here, which is preicey. but they look nice. You can do a lot of stuff with what you have.
Yeah some idiot was selling them on Facebook marketplace for $60 including the bench. I don’t think he ever even used them.
