-J requested kimura options. Coach went thru kimua attempt from closed guard when opponent keeps their arm inside and safe. First option from armbar when opponent has good hand to hand grip, using top leg to lock their forearm to chest, then pivot to essentially sit on their chest (top arm grips thigh), then lift to shear/separate their shoulder for the tap. 2nd option from closed guard, keep kimura grip, then get top leg over the back of their neck, bottom leg starts to straighten to build shoulder shearing pressure. (I know the term has omoplata or one of the plata’s in there naming wise)… then worked some grip fighting reversal that’ll help me avoid the kimura. I’m sure @dchris or @burien_top_team can work out the proper name for me!
-just J and myself today so 3x rounds sharktanking above then some rounds starting in SC. Got a few taps on him - noting he was letting me progress some of the initial moves, but copped plenty from him too. But very handy coaching during rounds given just the two of us. solid session.
@dchris almost, coach had us grab the kimura from over the top of their shoulder first (does that make it a reverse k?), but I like this version too… soooo many options. my old brain struggles to get into the move, by the time I think of it, it’s too late! ha.
Ahh ya. Could be a reverse kimura. I’ve never done it like this tho. I usually just reverse my grip and finish the same way from closed guard. There’s a lot of subs that are similar in that position.
-J requested other triangle entry options from closed guard. So worked through a few different options there. Wizzer, knee across, etc, another option from butterly pulling arm in etc.
-5x rolls after, again largely defending across first 3 rounds, then specific training rounds from SC with H, then from CG looking for traingles vs J.
-hayfever is knocking me around of late, asthma/chest tightness didn’t help in these rounds, need more air!
-Darc choke technique work. Good refresher for me, working angles and variants to use the leg also to help crush their whole body in.
-3x rolls, solid defence but succumb a few times to the advanced guys J and T. Held off N nicely then worked into vonflu choke on him as the buzzer went.
-nice to hit a PR on front squats. Mainly as I have not done much front squatting aside from lighter olympic lift work many years ago. Found an old log with 70 as a pr on FS. Plus easy strength routine. Still had some in the tank too.
-so many muscles worked, not too many stacks. Was getting some good speed going round the court by the end. Solid cardio that, it’s been 20years since I’ve done it…
-thanks @ChickenLittle nice on the PR for sure!
