And you’re proud of your LOUSY GPA? My lord… I’d be ASHAMED to admit that that’s my GPA for my first year unless I’m taking at least three 300 lvl courses out of the 5-6 courses that you’re required to take per semester.
BTW – I’ve never met a truly intelligent, fuckable guy who brags about his fricking college GPA. Your GPA doesn’t mean you’re smart. It just means you can memorize and regurgitate your biology text book, which BTW requires no analysis or thought from you. People who brag about their school GPA have no other accomplishment to brag about, which also puts them in the “too pathetic to live” category.
BTW – I hope you’ll never get laid and hence cannot dirty our gene pool with your genes. It’d be unthinkable to have more of you in the world.
To Joshawa: Wow. What a relief. I guess you take comfort that your ACADEMIC intelligence is high. Like academia was a guarantee of something in life…yeah right! Did you voluntarily omit the other many types (for example artistic, sports & motricity, social, practical, etc.) of intelligence? If we followed your logic, all nerds would have to be beyond reproach because their academic intelligence magically transfers to all of their live’s and guarantees flawless reasoning in non-school contexts? I guess not. Any logic and argument can be challenged, yours included. GPA guarantees nothing.

My GPA is not lousy; it is an A- average. I didn?t say that it was outstanding, but I think it reflects the point that I am not an idiot as you claimed I was earlier. Also I am a biology major, so it?s not like I?m taking a bunch of arts courses. Furthermore, I don?t know where you went for your post-secondary education, but I think it?s already apparent to most students that at most universities the students are required to do more than simply regurgitate information that has been thrown at them.

So you want to hear me parrot of my accomplishments? Well if you insist. For starters I am a brown 3 in Ju-Jitsu Karate; was on my provincial track and field team in high school and went to the legion track and field championships; I played soccer, and basketball all throughout high school and earned numerous awards, (I now play in recreational leagues here at AU, as I don?t have time for 6 days a week practices); I lift weights as well, and consider myself to be quite accomplished from the strength levels, and physique that I have attained; furthermore I consider myself to be high in tacit intelligence, as well as interpersonal intelligence for the reason that I have succeeded in gaining a very good reputation at any job that I have ever worked at, and also seem to be able to adapt to any challenge that presents itself in the workplace; lastly I would say that I have a high degree of practical intelligence for the reason that I am rather handy around a house, (my dad was a mechanic and carpenter, so I picked up a few things from him), and I am able to adapt to my environment quite well. Do I need to list anything else for you in order to be labeled as something else other than just a nerd???
Academic intelligence may not guarantee you success in life, but it is one of the many stepping stones that do help you to succeed. Someone who has a very low GPA will have a much harder time getting into any graduate school, than someone with a high GPA. Also there may be very successful people who haven?t even gone to university/college, and who were never high in academic intelligence, but they are the exception and not the rule.

Um, Canada has the best universities IN THE WORLD for a lot of things. Regular people think the Ivy League schools are the best, but they just don’t know any better. For example, people from everythere want to go to UBC for anything related to living things & U of Waterloo for math/compsci. That kind of covers a lot of stuff. When math people say they’re @ Harvard, another math person could say “why Harvard, couldn’t get into Waterloo?”

Don’t be so quick do put down American Universities. I am a Canadian Citizen who moved to the U.S. from Saskatoon, Sask b/c the only worth while school in Canada was McGill. I graduated from Princeton University in May last year and now going to Columbia for my MBA. I live and work in North NJ.
True, IVY league schools maybe over rated. But to say that Canadian Universities are better than American Universities, I will have to see evidence.
Not to mention, Canadian Universities are always short on $$ and don’t have enough money for reserach where was US Universities, esp the IVY league, have huge amounts of $$$ coming in to continue cutting edge research.
I am Canadian and proud of it. I am just being realistic here. Don’t try too hard to support Canada just because you live there, every country has their pros and cons. Canadian Universities is not exactly a pro. Just because you are Canadian doesn’t mean you have to agree with everything Canadian - for one, I am wayyyyy pro way in IRAQ b/c they pose a threat to the US AND Canada.

One more thing, when you are trying to prove a point in a debate, don’t use internal sources such as you are from UBC and Waterloo. Use external sources, maybe the US News and World Report on Colleges and Universities (yes Canadian schools are included).

If I were you, I wouldn’t compare Harvard math to Waterloo or UBC…remember Harvard is down the street from MIT, if you want Math, need i say more?

I’m @ UVic, where people from all over come to study subjects as diverse as geography, chemistry, mechanical engineering & music. People from somewhere else say UVic is Canada’s Stanford. Biology students @ UVic go to UBC for grad school because their biology/medical/biochem libraries have a total of ~13000000 books & can learn anything they want. The FACULTY of math (w/5 depts) @ U of Waterloo takes up 2 buildings each bigger than the main library there & mocks the attempt of a math program @ MIT. (from what I’ve heard from people who have actually been there)

As as comparing any BC college to Stanford, think again, which is more well reputated around the world?? If Canadian schools are so great then why aren’t they more well known? Just something to think about.

one more thing, I am Canadian and proud of it, I am not giving my Canadian citizenship. On the same token, I am not close minded either. I will pursue the path of higher acheivement and for me the United States was the answer to that. Even if I was in Canada, I would have taken a pro war stance. Also keep in mind that I am Muslim, but not anti-war b/c i am Muslim.
I look at the facts in any situation and make my own conclusions, not going with what my the popular opinion may be in religion or the country.

Whatever happened to the Random Sex thread anyways?? I am going to say something about that since that is the topic of the thread - yeah it happens quite a bit but not as much as people think. Mostly at house parties and such not so much from meeting people at a bar/club and then having sex with them the same night. Obviously, I don’t agree with Random sex, but hey, if thats what the girl/guy wants, then let them have their fun. It will probably catch up with them later.
While I don’t agree with Joshawa’s method of trying to prove everyone else wrong, he is correct. I am starting my PhD work in Molecular Cell Biology soon, and I have learned everything he has. In fact, some eskimo tribes still practice this i.e. women sleep with whoever just to increase genetic diversity and increase the chances of having offspring. They do it doggy style so the lady doesn’t have to look at the guy when they are fucking.
If you look in the animal kingdom, this happens all the time, but the males know when the female is ovulating, as they can smell a bitch in heat!! Take lions for example; one male will have a harem of women that they protect and have sex with often, just to increase the male’s chances of fitness. When a younger/stronger male comes along and removes the male from power, the harem is the new male’s harem. It happens a lot in the wild.
So you see, we should all become mormon and have many wives to have lots of kids!! Just kidding. Casual sex never hurts, as long as you protect yourself. If I wasn’t getting married soon, I would be all for it, and try my damndest all the time.

Another thing; Ivy league schools are over-rated. I visited Princeton while trying to decide on my PhD program (they paid for my trip) and their program sucked. I’m going to attend Washington University in St. Louis, MO, and it has actually been rated ahead of most of the ivy league schools. Plus I don’t get the snob-job that I got when I visited Princeton. Schooling is great, but a lot of the shit we learn doesn’t apply to a damn thing.
