Bloodsport, huh?

LOL@ the JVD comment, legit LOL

if im grappling, id go w/o contacts, you dont need to see to grapple except for takedowns, randori from the knees is all touch

I have poor vision, and when I started training without contacts (I train bjj and judo) I improved by leaps and bounds. Rather than relying on sight, I got better at feeling my opponent’s movements. My timing for throws got better, my groundwork got better, everything just got better. If you are a grappler, you should definitely try training without contacts.

So the defect god gave us can actually benefit? Hmm…how strange.

Yep, your kinesthetic awareness increases faster than other people.

Kinda like daredevil

i am fortunately near-sighted, so unless they ever make a cage of mat that’s 50ft across it should never become a problem.

i thought about contacts but there have been a couple times where my rolling partner would lose one and it’s so hard to find. plus if you do find it would you really wanna wear it again after it was on those mats???

Maybe it causes you to develop better reflexes and better predict general body movements since its hard to focus on small things.

Anyways I’m currently wearing glasses but hopefully I’ll be getting some sort of vision correction soon. All I know is PRK seems infinitely better than LASIK since I don’t feel like having an actual incision made and a flap that could fly apart under tension. I don’t care if I have to be in a fighter jet at max speed, I still don’t want any extra chance of my eye falling apart under any circumstances.

Quoted for truth, shit.

I tried getting involved in this convo but all I keep looking at is Wolbarrets Image.

I know exactly how you feel. I’m the one who put it up and it is distracting the hell out of me. I’m contemplating pulling it down.

Where is it from? I feel like If there was a sex scene with jessica biel i would remember it…vivdly. Just like I remember wild things.

DANEW,

be sure when you go for your lasik appt to let them know that you do contact sports and that you are probably going to get hit in the eye damn near every day.

There’s apparently some danger (i’m not sure if its overstatead or not) about a ‘flap’ coming off and you going permanently blind.

do your research b4 just getting lasik. There are a LOT of different eye procedures out there. Your eyes aren’t something to fuck with, so don’t just listen to a doctor remember part of their job is to “sell” a procedure to you.

im personally getting PRK, it’s not an out patient procedure like lasik and has an extended recovery time but there’s no danger of ‘flap’ removal. And from what i remember thats what the Navy SEALs prefer if you are to correct your vision. [/quote]

Xen, the flap heals itself in a matter of weeks, i believe the likelihood of your eye coming apart is no greater than it was before teh surgery.

Also, make sure you do your homework on the prk stuff. i dont remember everything exactly, but it did seem to have a higher incidence of “side effects” and i’d be willing to bet that the seals, as a part of the us govt, prefer prk for the sole reason that it’s been around longer.

I got lasik in dec of 05. changed my life. It’s absolutely great not having to worry about contacts, glasses, etc. the one and only side effect is that it seems to me that sometime i’ll be looking at something far away and it’ll be blurry, but if i concentrate i can bring it into focus.

kind of like having to maually focus a camera instead of autofocusing it. but i still test at 20/15 (at least as of feb 07) To someone who has the money, i’ll always recommend it. cant think of a single reason not to.

I thought prk DID involve an incision? could be wrong, again, this is two and a half years ago now, but i thought they need to use a scalpel

My wife had prk done a while back and they used a scalpel.

well whatever the result the general consensus is…

one of my friends got corrective surgery and he said that it was the best decision he has ever made in his life.
