Racist Wins Tenn. GOP Primary

(Note: “Eugenics” is what Hitler believed in… the idea of a “master race”.)

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – An unabashed racist will represent the Republican party in the November election for a congressional seat after a write-in candidate failed to derail his effort.
With 86 percent of the primary vote counted Thursday, write-in candidate Dennis Bertrand had just 1,554 votes compared to 7,671, or 83 percent, for James L. Hart, a believer in the discredited, phony science of eugenics.

In November, the GOP candidate will oppose Rep. John Tanner, a Democrat who has represented the northwest Tennessee district for 15 years.

Hart, 60, vows if elected to work toward keeping “less favored races” from reproducing or immigrating to the United States. In campaign literature, Hart contends that “poverty genes” threaten to turn the United States into “one big Detroit.”

“I didn’t expect to win,” Hart said. “I thought their network would beat my ideas.”

He has run for the 8th District seat before and drawn little attention. But people began to notice this time because he was the only Republican on the ballot.

Since the deadline for getting on the ballot had passed, Bertrand, also a Republican, began a write-in campaign, saying he wanted to protect the party’s honor.

“I think his beliefs are not beliefs of any party that I know of,” Bertrand said Thursday night. “I knew it was going to be a really long shot, but in good conscience, I had to at least give it an attempt.”

Bertrand, a financial analyst and former military officer, was on active duty with the National Guard when the deadline to get on the primary ballot passed.

Hart said he will have lots of time to campaign for the general election since he was forced Wednesday to resign from his job as a real estate salesman because of the attention he drew during the primary.

“They didn’t say ‘You’re fired’ in exactly those words, but it was pretty clear what they wanted,” Hart said.
While campaigning, Hart sometimes wears a protective vest and carries a .40-caliber pistol, but he said he has run into no trouble.

“When I knock on a door and say white children deserve the same rights as everybody else, the enthusiastic response is truly amazing,” he said.

If a black person opens the door, he says he simply drops off campaign literature and leaves.

Two questions…

Why did the Republican party in Tennessee fail to field a suitable opponent for this creep?

And why did 7600 Republicans in Tennessee vote for him?

Wow…

this guy is truly fucked up… i hope those who voted for him did so because he was a republican and not because of his ideas…

  1. Because there are a lot of pot-growing/pot-raising hillbillies in Tennessee that would never dream of voting/running Republican.

  2. Maybe they voted a straight Republican ticket like sane people do.

first of all “eugenics” is a system of breeding used to create superior animals or people, it’s what they used to create those cows without myostatin genes.

second Hitler had a perverted view of eugenics. he believed that the aryan race was superior already, and all other races should be wiped out. however in the 36 olympics his arayn sprinters got beat by a little black man from america.

thirdly tests have shown that, on average, black people have a lower IQ than white people, and white people have a lower IQ than Oriental people, suporting the conclusion that races have strengths and weaknesses. (how many white running backs are there in the NFL? Japaneese men over 6’?)

Finally discrimination based on races is not morally cosher. I don’t like it. You don’t like it. Any one who likes it should, in my opinion, be beat senseless. however the worlds IQ levels have been steadily dropping since the mid-1800s and it is difficult to find much inteligence on tv or in movies these days. I say genetic engineering is the answer, but that is looked down upon. “playing god” they call it.

So the bottom line is who would you vote for, Hitler or a world full of morons? I say screw em both. Put me in charge.

I just moved to Memphis this week and have been listening to local talk radio. This topic was discussed extensively today on 600AM WREC radio. From the callins I heard, this guy is a major embarrassment to republicans and many who voted for him did NOT know of his idealogy. Some people got some literature in the mail from him where he does talk about and support eugenics. Many were shocked and are now NOT voting for him now in November. If I was to vote here, it would NOT be for him. If I was a registered republican, I would see about getting him out of the race altogether. His view is dispicable.

Any person who votes a straight party ticket, on either side, without knowing where each candidate stands on various issues or even who they are, isn’t at all sane. They are fucking idiots, and in this case at least, they got exactly what they deserve.

Oh, I don’t think anyone will be putting you in charge…

Two Words.

Robert Byrd.

Racism is bad in any form but why is it that the racists in the black and mexican caucus are never pressed for their behaviors and beliefs?

You beat me to it, Goldberg.

I haven’t looked at his positions or ideas closely, but I think we need more white racist thinking and less white self-loathing. Blacks and Hispanics are openly racist, and whites applaude them and bend over backward to help them. How come when someone says they are white, proud of it and believe this country has to be more white like it was when it was founded, they are evil. I don’t go around filled with hate towards blacks, hispanics, whatever, but show me a hispanic or black community worth a crap. Show me what they have done for this country or the world. Western civilization is basically American civilization, the most advanced in history, and it was created by whites. Why can’t they be proud of that and strive for future excellence.

Pretzel-
One problem with that is that there are massively more whites in America than any one other race, thus white racism can easily lead to real oppression (as it has in the past) while the “racism” of other races doesn’t really effect whites much.

Discrimination of any kind is bad. However, reverse discrimination is also evil!

I don’t get the point here, other than that a bad candidate made it on the ballot. I hope he loses.

I similarly hope Cynthia McKinney loses in Georgia.

What I hope you’re not trying to imply is that the whole of the GOP is racist, which, in addition to being demonstrably false, is a bad generalization due to the part-to-whole logical fallacy.

I have a fundamental problem with something I see more and more often in American culture.

We are told that diversity – the presence and influence of multiple races and cultures in our society – gives us a certain strength.

We are also told that discrimination – the recognition that different races and cultures are, in fact, DIFFERENT and will have varying qualities – is a terrible thing that we should not tolerate.

This is simply not sane. We cannot appreciate what makes our cultures and races different if we won’t admit that there are differences. Pretending we’re all the same is just a big lie, and we all know it.

And therein lies the problem: once you establish that the “official” position is a lie, you open the door for all the fringe elements to come in and tell a better lie. That’s how doomsday cults start – you take an initial foundation that’s stupid and doesn’t add up, and you introduce something that DOES add up. (Or, at the very least, looks like it adds up.)

So we need to get rid of this stupid lie and just admit that yes, on the average, people of the same race are a lot alike. That’s why there are racial cultures in the first place.

And if you can identify HOW cultures are a lot alike, you can compare them to other cultures and make value judgements about them. That creates varying types of racism – both positive and negative – but this is unavoidable. If any given quality is “good”, then the races which display it are “better” than the races which do not. So the “best” race depends only upon how one defines those “good” qualities.

So condemning racism as unacceptable is just a way to torture people with yet another impossible standard. Racism is a flaw that we all have, and it’s something we need to intellectually combat in order to be fair to individuals… but we shouldn’t be ashamed of it or pretend it doesn’t exist.

As bad as he sounds, at least this idiot is open and honest about his racist beliefs. Which is more than I can say for some of our other politicians. Hopefully he will open some eyes as to what is still in our society.

If you want to see a successful black community you should come to Detroit. There are some beautiful neighborhoods here. There are a good number of blacks here who have good paying jobs and college education who are living better than a lot of whites in Tennessee. It’s not all poverty here.

I have to disagree with Yami on two points. First, you aren’t going to beat ignorance out of someone. There are reasons why people develop predjudicial beliefs. As tempting as it is you can’t cure them with violence. It’s not the way of Dr. King.

Second I wouldn’t place too much importance on IQ tests, they are very culturally biased. Some cultures like the Japanese tend to favor the analytical side of the brain which is why they are so good at improving other peoples inventions. Others like blacks favor the creative side of the brain which is why they are so good at inventing things. Think about the contributions that blacks have made to the arts. Jazz is descended from African music. You can’t put a number on artistic brilliance. It’s nice to get a high IQ number, but it doesn’t really mean much.

In response to Yao:

The New Yorker had a very good article on “child geniuses” recently (7/26/04). Researchers at Johns Hopkins hold a summer camp for very, very bright grade school kids. The researchers do not use IQ tests because they are not a good indicator of a child’s strength and weaknesses or ability to learn or perform. The researchers use the SAT and willingly admit that it is not a perfect tool. They have also come to realize that the intelligence of the kids is not what is special - it is their work ethic and love for what they are learning. Values often ends up playing a bigger role in “success” than intelligence.

“Oriental people?” Do you mean Asians? (sorry, I just haven’t heard the term in a while)

The world’s IQ levels have not been dropping since the mid-1800s because the Stanford-Binet IQ test was first introduced around 1918. Also, to say that movies and music are less intelligent than at previous times is a very, very broad generalization. There are many more movies released annually than fifty years ago and these movies cater to a wide variety of people. For every “Harold and Khumar Go to White Castle” there’s a “Lost in Translation” nearby.

I think the idea that the scores have been dropping is simply a matter of some simple statistical analysis.

It’s just the average scores that have been going down. Assuming that the tests have been more and more broadly administered, and that the tests and scoring are comparable between administrations, one would expect the average scores to decline if one assumed that the self selection of the students (more accurately: parental and teacher selection) who were taking them previously when they were less widely distributed would have skewed the numbers upwards. However, the top scores would not decline – it would be a matter of the more “average” students pulling the mean downward.

This is neither suprising nor bad. This explains at least part of why SAT scores have trended downward. A related explanation also goes to why the U.S. has such low “average” scores in math and whatnot compared to worldwide scores – other countries, via tracking or simply from allowing/encouraging high drop-out rates, purge mediocre and average students from their school systems, so they don’t take part in the tests.
