Quote: Ben Franklin

“Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.” - Benjamin Franklin

“Beer is proof that God wants us to be happy.” Ben Franklin

Democracy - majority rule: the doctrine that the numerical majority of an organized group can make decisions binding on the whole group

Republic - form of government based on a constitution (or other laws), in which decisions are made by elected or appointed officials in a democratic manner.

The US is NOT a democracy! The founding fathers thought very little of Mob Rule, so set the country up as a Republic.

“Eat to live, and not live to eat.”

“Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.”

“There are three faithful friends – an old wife, an old dog, and ready money.”

“Work as if you were to live a hundred years. Pray as if you were to die tomorrow.”

I know the thread is not about Frankling quotes, but I couldn’t resist these gems!

Bring on the Benny quotes. He was an interesting individual.

Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both.
Benjamin Franklin

Force shits on reason’s back.

The greatest king on the mightiest throne sits on his own arse.

Neither a fortress nor a maidenhead will hold out long after they begin to parley.

Three more great quotes from Franklin.

Wow. Awesome quote.

another great quote

“Does thou love life? Then do not squander time; for that’s the stuff life is made of.” -Ben Franklin

Something cool: The rumors that he was a womanizer are well-founded. My father was WAY into the family geneology a few years ago, and found out that there’s a good chance that one of our great (a bunch of greats) grandparents was one of his illegitimate children. Who knows how many of you guys out there are a distant cousin of mine?

“Go fly a kite? That’s real original. Piss off fag.” - Benjamin Franklin

“It’s not a bald spot. It’s a solar panel for a sex machine.” - Benjamin Franklin

If you do not learn to master your rage, then your rage will become your master. - Benjamin Franklin

The Constitution only guarantees the American people the right to pursue happiness. You have to catch it yourself.
Benjamin Franklin

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

I was told that I am related to Ben Franklin through another such “mishap.”

I think the activist Judges are trying to give it away to various groups…Franklin (and indeed all of the founding fathers) would roll over in their graves if they only knew!

Fuckin a man Bens giving solid advice in all areas of life!

“Marry an older woman, they will be more grateful”. Not verbatim but pretty close.

"There are no fools so troublesome as those that have wit. " -Benjamin Franklin

(Applies to both of us sometimes, I think! :))

yeah, but that goes without saying.

Here’s a few more political ones, applicable to any time in history:

“The cat in gloves catches no mice.”

“Sell not virtue to purchase wealth, nor liberty to purchase power.”

Gramps was also a bit of an atheist, it would seem:

“The way to see by faith is to shut the eye of reason.”

“When knaves fall out, honest men get their goods. When Priests dispute, we come at the Truth.”

Hmmm… maybe not atheist, but just distrustful of organized religion?

“Fear not death; for the sooner we die, the longer shall we be immortal.”

That doesn’t sound very atheist to me.
