I too, am now disgusted by the smell of someone who just got done smoking. It smells like dirty poop tar. I still enjoy the smell of a burning cigarette, but I am glad that I dont smell like a smoker anymore.
Updates, I relapsed on about June 17 or 18 can’t remember. Was back on through the 27th, been back off since then. So this is what my 5th day, it actaully much less hard this time, not that it was hard the first time, but damn when that beer is flowing do I want a smoke.
Irish how you doing champ? Still off the smack?
I gotta make it through this weekend with no relapse and I’ll be home free.

I’m going pretty strong. 8 cigarettes in 2 wks. All bummed from my friend who smokes. I haven’t bought any packs or anything so i’m feeling pretty good.
Caffeine has been very helpful.

And I enjoy telling all my friends that they reek like cancer and death when they come in from smoking hahaha.

Nothing worse than a reformed smoker!! It will get worse as you go. Pretty soon you"ll be an anti smoking ad. Good job man.

I quit 7 years ago and have tried to not be one of those ex-smokers that tells off current smokers.
Though I can’t stand the smokers that say they only smoke 5 or 6 a day like that’s OK, or that they should get some sort of little trophy for that or the ones who quit and when they tell you how much they used to smoke it’s always 2 packs a day.
Also, when I’ve talked to someone that wants to quit, I get a little excited to help them, in the way that many of us will happily discuss training and supplements/nutrition if someone sensible asks.
I tell them that I chewed the nicotine gum for 3 or 4 months after and they give me a look like I cheated or that the gum is for weaklings. Hey fucker…I’m the one that’s quit. You want to go cold turkey? Great. The only way to be sure if it works for you is to check back in a few months.
I’m also a member of www.quitnet.com and it keeps track of how many cigarettes you’ve NOT smoked since you quit and how many days of your life you’ve saved and even how much money you’ve saved from not smoking.
I smoked about 12 to 15 a day, so now I’ve not smoked 34,651 cigarettes, saved 8 months 24 days of my life and not spent about $5, 788.

You will never be home free.
…Unless you’re planning on checking out in a big way in the foreseeable future, which is also cool but makes me wonder why you quit.
^^ I think maybe, this is just my pet theory, that people that quit cold turkey are the ones that fight cravings often. I’m open to people that quit cold turkey telling me different, I’m curious.
I am very surprised that I don’t have cravings. I can even see others smoke and feel no desire to smoke. I never would’ve believed it before I quit.
Though if someone came on the radio saying the world was going to end in 30 minutes I’d probably run to the store and buy some smokes.

It is getting easier. Made it through the 3 day holiday weekend smoking 2 bummed cigs. I golfed and drank saturday (won 31 bucks too), Hung out at a poolside BBQ and drank all day sunday, and then went boating and drank all day monday. The only real problem with the drinking is obviously the inhibitions are lowered, BUT I did far better than the previous time I drank. I think the cravings were far less, thus not a big hiccup.
I am quitting because I said I would quit by the time I was 30, I’m 30 now and if I become 31 and still smoke I will feel like I did not do what I said I was going to do. Also they are expensive and NY just introduced a new $1.60 increase in thier tax. So a pack literally cost $10. If you smoke a pack a day it will cost you $300 per month to smoke. Seriously? I think the tax is over 100% of the retail price of the product now. Can anyone down south buy them for $5 or less per pack?
Regardless, congrats FI for getting through your first month.

I quit cold turkey, and I don’t remember fighting that many cravings when I did. It was about 5 years ago, though, so I don’t remember much. It wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would be, but I did have my crutches for the first month or so.
I’m not surprised. I don’t have cravings much at all. I hate the smell of smoke, especially stale smoke, so being around it causes no desire for me to start again.
That being said, there are certain things that can trigger a craving; mostly mental associations with smoking. They pass pretty quickly.
x2
And I’ve pretty much decided that I’ll take up smoking my pipe again when I retire. I figure that when I’m 65, it won’t really matter much anymore.

Wait- seriously? 12 to 15 a day over that time period is 34,000?
Wow.

We’ve been friends much longer than adversaries. We are very similar to each other haha.
I wanted to come on here with some wise-ass comment about this thread still lingering like the stench of cigarettes in a sweater worn at the bar the night before.
But seeing how many of you guys taking a stance and kicking the habit, I now come here offering huge congratulations.
Solid bunch of men here, that’s for damned sure!

Thanks smartass hahah.
And I just joined that quitnet shit to see how many I haven’t smoked… and in 35 days, I would have smoked 283 cigarettes.
That’s insane

Yes.
But only Newports, and off-brands.
If you can believe it cigarettes are only about $2.50 US here in Taiwan. Those are Marlboros and Dunhills…what you might call ‘good’ cigarettes.
There are Chinese/Japanese brands for even less, maybe $2.00.

I know! I just calculated it myself and it’s accurate. Just think…that’d be about 190 cartons!!

A year ago in Hong Kong, Marlboros went for 4, then $5/pack (they upped the tax after I’d been there for a month). Why are they so cheap in the other non-communist China?
