Quitting Smoking

I smell much more as well- all kinds of things that I haven’t noticed before. One of these is cigarettes- I can smell them from a mile away now haha. [/quote]

This is what did it for me.

I smoked (Marlboro Reds) from age 14 to 28. Quit about 5 years ago. I got a nasty cold that lasted for a long time and I just stopped. Still get cravings from time to time, mostly with certain mental associations, but nothing uncontrollable.

But it was the smell that really made it hit home. I never fully realized how much I stunk until I smelled the stank on the other people around me. Now I can’t stand to be anywhere near it.

Hang in there, man. You’ve passed one of the first hurdles.

keep fighting the good fight Irish. You should post some of your heavy bag work vids! =)

You have to be sick of smoking and WANT to quit in order to do it. If you don’t want to, you won’t pull it off most of the time.

Boo this Man! BOOOOOOOOOO!

J/K hey man, finish this pack off and then quit again, it’s not like you need to be all Ghey about it. Oh Woa is me, I failed at quitting, I’m DOOOOMED! Shit, just finish off your pack, then challenge yourself to not be such a pussy. Each time you feel like you NEED that cig, call yourself out. Write that shit down too, post it on the fridge, next to your bed, on the coffee table, on the squat rack. Write this… PUSSIES LET CIGS CONTROL THIER ACTIONS! DON’T BE A PUSSY! psycological warfare against your inner pussy.

Its just I’ve been really stressed at work, my boyfriend has been really distant and I need to make an appointment with my gyno because something is really not right…down there.

No but srsly. I’m not worried. I quit for longer every time I quit. I know how serious I am about it.

My Dad quit smoking a few years back, he was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. I think he was around 55/56 at the time and smoking since his twenties maybe earlier. Didn’t quit until massive family pressure and amputation of a toe and digit in his foot.

Don’t get a slap in the face like this before quitting, doing it now is always the best time.

T-Minus 2 days! I’m Coming for you motherfucker! (motherfucker being the weak little bitch living inside me who gives into peer pressure and nicotine cravings)

i quit every drug in the world… and smoking, overnight… dealt with some serious withdrawl for a while but im glad i did.

Day 1, I had one cig yesterday, no cigs so far today. I have an almost full pack left over from the weekend. Not sure what to do about it. Keep it around so I don’t go buy a pack if I break down (or my wife does) or chuck it and get the temptation out of the house.

I’m actually more worried about my wife. I think I could look at the pack every day, sniff it and then not smoke it. Anyways, here is day 1, Irish how you doin?

Toss the fuckin’ pack away ya ding dong!

I tried to find a Rob Shnieder pic of “you can do it” from the waterboy to insert here but no can findy :frowning:

Pack your bags, your going on a guilt trip: If you plan to have littles V’s running around in the future, quit now. What’s more important, having a cig or being around long enough to enjoy their little V’s running around.

Ok, I’ll toss it, Wife gets home after me so it will be gone before she gets home. I won’t say anything unless she asks about it. See if she has the nerve to ask for one. lol

BTW, so far today so good, don’t even want one. I’ll be avoiding beer for the time being, that is the only time I really get a “I NEED ONE” feeling. Most other days I just have a few out of boredom or habit or whatever.

Yeah, Irish, watch out for this one. And it’s not the happy, good time drinking that will do it. It’s the lonely, end of the night, sitting at the end of the bar time when the demons come out.

So, how’s it going??

I can’t beleive the selfishness of people these days.

Do you have any idea how much it costs for a pack of cigarettes? Dude, find someone and GIVE the pack to them. Its like recycling, only it involves death.

Don’t throw that shit away. You wouldn’t throw away $8 worth of Surge, would you?

Or would you? Because that’s like… three servings. I dunno. The point is, the decent thing to do would be to make your loss into someone elses gain (Or your gain into… whatever) by gifting the nigh-full pack to someone who can use it.

I’m on day number 2 and I want to shoot someone. Spain better play well today.

Doin ok, got a few strong cravings yesterday. chewed some gum, did some housework and ate a cheeseburger to get rid of it. I know a bulk would probably be a good idea seeing as how I want to eat EVERYTHING right now.

My throat itches when i get up in the morning, even tho I’ve not been smoking. Getting to sleep ca be a bitch as well.

Yesterday afternoon was very grumpy. Short with nearly everyone. I try not to even talk to people if I don’t have to because anything they say can upset me because normally when I think someone is stupid (all the time) I just grin and bear it, now I feel the need to say something, i’ll be very glad when this stage calms down.

Irish how you doin? update us please!

V you need the patch man. when you feel like shit or crave…rub the patch. This is all in your head. You don’t need to be grumpy about it. It’s a good thing and you should feel pride in the decision and not remorse. Don’t grieve the loss, love it!

Agreed.

Where the hell is Irish?

Probably on that crack pipe. Its a hell of a drug.

When I quit back in '01 I was initially taking Zyban. It was OK at first but then it turned real nasty and I seriously wanted to get a running start and jump through a plate glass window. I called my doc and told him I was going to stop taking it so I wouldn’t hurt myself and that I wanted some Xanax instead. I had earned the right to a little comfort after all…I had quit smoking dammit! Xanax and sucking on ice pops helped. Ice has a nice satisfying ‘bite’ to it similar to smoke. Ahhhh…the memories.

Good luck to everyone quitting. It’s worth it.
